not garbage enough to be lower than a 23 for me but it’s still really bad. It’s not unlistenable but this album is made up of so many noticeable flaws that me giving this anything higher would be a dumb thing to do.
Echoes is one hell of a way to finish an album. I just wish this album was more cohesive and had an overall atmosphere more in the vein of Echoes: hypnotic and otherworldly.
Nothing really stands out to me sadly. These are great tunes and the songwriting and arrangements are nice but this is just nothing amazing for me to enjoy all that much.
I’ve always considered this to be my favorite Pink Floyd album, and for good reason. It just about does everything right: being an engaging listen front to back, being interesting conceptually and musically, and being strangely hypnotic and diverse in sounds and emotions while being super cohesive.
Dogs is one of the best prog rock songs. The guitar on this track feels so different and draws you into 17 minutes of a musical journey that constantly rienforces its climactic parts ... read more
Edit 2: I’m still speechless. This might just be one of my favorite all-time albums now. It took a lot of patience to get into at first but now I just find myself returning to it more. Whenever I listen to it, I feel almost spiritual.
Edit: Gave it a second listen and I love it even more now.
Probably the longest album over heard, just siting over 7 hours long. And it’s really weird. Unlike anything I’ve ever heard. How the band managed to get their instruments together, ... read more
Edit: so this has grown off me a fair bit, but there are still some songs on here that are just catchy and enjoyable.
Wow. So much fun and creativity packed in an unfinished album. I’m glad he’s back. I’d love to get more of this sound and more from him.
Interesting Italian Art Pop album. Wasn’t particularly blown away on my first listen (maybe because I was listening to it late at night with a headache like an idiot), but there are a lot of elements in much of the music that artistically pops out to me (no pun intended). A lot of the synths on here are really well done along with the instrumentation. I do think that there is a bit of an inconsistency overall however with track quality, vocal performances, and engagability. I’ll ... read more
Edit 2: man if it weren’t for those blasted bass songs! They’re filler, but the rest of this is really nice.
Edit: fuck it, it’s a gem.
This is some awesome jazz. Just wish it was longer and more varied.
I still think it has its minor set of flaws, but the atmosphere of this album is unlike anything else.
Several months later and I just can’t get enough of it. Idc if I have two Radiohead 10s (and two more that are pretty damn close).
Let me just start off by saying that if you’re new to Death Grips, stay away from this album and try their more accessible material first. One of the finest releases of the past decade and I’d put it on my top 10 for best albums of the decade if I’m being completely honest. This double album is close to perfection and solidifies Death Grips as the most innovative and ambitious hip hop act of our time. This release is definitely one of their most challenging and inaccessible ... read more
I think that this is very close to being a perfect album. It does everything in my book so well: a brilliant execution of genre-blending that is inviting, emotional, unique, engaging, and creative. We have elements of IDM being used to create a glitchy dream pop atmosphere with a wonderful shoegaze atmosphere. And the sound and feelings conveyed manage to be so cohesive yet simultaneously diverse on this release. The only minor setback is few bloated moments, but that’s it. I love this ... read more
The elite four of female artists in my opinion:
Björk, PH Harvey, Joanna Newsom, and Kate Bush
I try to get into this but it’s just not working. Aside from the first track, nothing on here really leaves me impressed. I feel like this album lacks anything unique and incorporates several overused sounds while managing to somehow bore me track after track. Sorry, but it’s just not my cup of tea. This score is generous.
One of the most beautiful albums I’ve ever listened to, reminiscent of Nick Drake in some ways for me personally. Terry’s voice is emotionally charged and complements the instrumentally varied sounds in this album extremely well. A well-executed mix of beautiful soul and chamber folk—that’s what I wanted, and that’s what this delivered.
