One mind-bending heaven of an ambient album. It’s very long and not something I’d obviously recommend for an active listen because it is an ambient album obviously, but the soundscape of this entire thing is insanely well made
Very unique experience to say the least. While not as consistent as The Age of Naples, it’s a good place to start to get into the sound of the experimental group and this album will certainly send a tingle down your spine or two.
Overall a very fun, consistent, and unique album that combines blues rock with psychedelic tidbits to create a fairly engaging sound! If you aren’t a big fan of Trout Mask Replica, I would recommend to give this a shot.
I just don’t know man... this album is fantastic. I already have a bias for chamber folk, but when paired with great songwriting and emotion, I can’t help but love it even more.
Mark Hollis’s voice is beautiful—that’s a given—but this album unfortunately did not do it for me as I expected. I feel like the clash between his voice and the instrumentals and ambient atmosphere throw it off for me and it drags at many points unfortunately.
While it’s unique and weird as hell, nothing other than that and the alien lyrics bring out Magma’s full potential. I feel like this album lacks consistency and just moments that would strike me as fascinating. After the first song, you kind of get a taste of what’s to come later on in the album and it can be repetitive and even somewhat tedious after some time.
It’s insane how uniquely beautiful this soundtrack is and how well it complements the dark futuristic vibe of the movie, which is a masterpiece by itself. I think it’s by far my favorite movie soundtrack. If you’re a music nerd, then it’s definitely worth your time.
Edit: upon a second listen I do think that the quality of this album fluctuates throughout. There are some noticeable highlights and it’s undeniably an essential part of Miles Davis’s discography, but there are also a fair amount of bloated and filler moments on this record.
By far one of my favorite jazz records of all time and a highly overlooked one in the Jazz God’s discography. The different atmosphere, unique fusions, and consuming tracks are amazingly executed and put ... read more
One of Zappa’s best works. The user score of 80 genuinely confuses me. This album is simultaneously experimental and accessible, exccentric and enjoyable. From the diverse instrumentation bits throughout, the varying moods, sardonic witty lyricism also contribute to this album being so potent and unique. It was a really fun listen to say the least and definitely one worth revisiting.
Up there with some of their best when played properly... yeah it’s pretty damn amazing.
What an interesting hellhole this album is when played the right way—both the Boris and Merzbow sides playing simulateously creates a harsh noisy atmosphere like no other. With that being said, this album will likely and hopefully grow on me as time passes, but as my first introduction to such an unsettling mixture of sounds, it was very interesting to say the least.
Overrated. I just couldn’t get into it. Many tracks’ lyrics are just stupid, annoying, excessively repetitive, the vocals are obnoxious and bland, many tracks display a dissonant mixture of vibes and tunes that just don’t complement each other well at all in my opinion, and many songs get ruined for me because of just really pointless additions or changes within them. I got bored and wanted it to end a little bit halfway into it. It drags a lot and fails to interest me despite ... read more
Edit: irs grown on me, but I still think billie can bring more to the table than this.
She has the potential to execute her voice well... but she doesn’t do that. She goes for the same safe vocals—monotone, whispery, with few changes in pitch at all. It’s just so boring and repetitive, and it’s soooo bloated. It’s just the same thing over and over again.
The tracks have very little differences sonically and the album is just one homogenous bland mixture of a lot ... read more
Edit 2: I had the privilege to see Natalie perform live last night and she and the instrumentalists were incredible. The venue kinda sucked because of how hot it was in there, but the music made up for it. When they played Movies, it was one hell of a memorable moment.
All I can say is wow. This is stunning, absolutely beautiful. An absolute monster of a contender so far for 2019.
Edit: yeah, no, this is a masterpiece. It’s addicting, engaging, otherworldly, and in so many different ... read more
The magnum opus of one of Japan’s most critically acclaimed artists with one of the most unique Art Pop discographies out there and arguably the best Jpop album in existence with its unique mixture of sounds and ambitious experimentation. I haven’t heard anything like it.
Are we listening to the same album? Are you guys okay?
