Considering the fact that she had to change her singing voice because of health issues while working on this 2-hour long engaging masterpiece of a follow-up brimming with diverse and unique instrumentation and amazing lyrics, I’m pretty blown away. I really don’t care about the length of the album at all to be honest. 2 hours? So what? It’s fucking amazing.
Not only is this album one of my favorite albums of all time, but it’s one of the most insane and mind-blowing hip hop albums of the past decade (excluding anything from Death Grips), taking the genre to a level that no other artist could accomplish as uniquely and successfully from a sonic and lyrical perspective.
Atrocity Exhibition is dark, chaotic, aggressive, and experimentally astounding and potentially challenging listen—a pivotal addition to the already solid discography ... read more
Edit: it’s first now... sorry Homogenic.
Tied for my second favorite Björk album with Medúlla, this album is a heavenly experience to go through each time and is easily one of her best. I highly recommend to check out the B-sides as well, many of which are so beautifully done that I prefer to some tracks on the record.
I really can’t see any flaws in this. It’s banger after banger. The mixing is exceptional. The flow is exceptional. I’ve headbanged to 99% of the songs on here. I was not expecting this much from this album.
This album is very solid. Loved the rapping, loved the tunes, production, and it’s so fresh-sounding and engaging. Early AOTY contender.
Edit: now my favorite album of all time.
You ever just find an album that was just meant for you? Something that you can’t find even a single problem with while always finding yourself listening to it over and over again without getting bored? Kate Bush’s The Dreaming is that album for me and after constantly revisiting it through the months, I can safely say it’s one of favorites ever. Kate Bush is at her most daring in this album, which is a creative, expressive, and ... read more
Transitions are a little off in some parts and I probably won’t be revisiting this much. Still a solid debut though.
Holy shit this album is such a fun listen. Doom kills it and the sonic aspect of this album is quite amazing and very consistent. Definitely a favorite. The interludes can get annoying sometimes but it’s not that glaring of an issue.
Utter perfection. Albums this masterful in so many aspects are rare to come by, and what the Swans created here is a mind-blowing classic that will be remembered for years to come.
The mood this album conveys is like no other--it is merciless, it is ominous, and it is brutal. Amidst the bits of dark ambient pieces that make up the album lie harrowing sounds executed in so many different styles, whether it's through Gira's harsh and angsty vocals or the sheer chaotic nature of the ... read more
The interlude sounds pointless and awful. Love everything else though.
Bloated with lots of filler and unnecessary segments. Difficult to revisit and bear the whole thing and honestly can be a boring and dragging listen. There are some tracks that bring this up (especially the big hits and some other tracks) but overall—while it sounds great in practice—it fails to execute the concept properly in my opinion.
It kind of fell of near the end for me, but I loved it overall. Essential Trip Hop, but I still prefer Dummy and Mezzanine.
Now I can’t get enough.
I have a strong feeling this will grow on me with time. I wasn’t particularly blown away with the listen, but I’ll give credit where it’s due—there’s not single bad track and overall the album is quite consistent in quality and the mood it conveys. It’s eerie and ominous, but worth a listen. Very few albums manage to encapsulate themes of heartbreak, murder, and other very dark and cryptic concepts as well as this from a lyrical ... read more
Normally I would give this around a high 90 range, but considering this entire album was performed live within 2 hours and contains some of the most emotional instrumentation and vocals prior to the band breaking up at passing of band members, I think it deserves a perfect score. I have never been as enamored with a live album as much as this one and I think it's one of the best out there, even better than Nirvana MTV unplugged, which I really enjoyed. This is truly something else. Phenomenal ... read more
