I reallyyyy want to like this, I do. But I had my expectations to high. Maybe with a few listens I'll get more out of it but for now there's just something about it that kinda lowers it for me which sucks because I consider Dream Pop to be one of my favorite genres.
Idk why but I keep revisiting this over and over again and there’s not a single ambient album for me that’s as comforting and destressing as this one for me personally. I also love the soundscape, makes me feel like I’m a wandering traveler in a raining setting in the album cover, walking alongside the busy roads and boarding a train, and so on. And albums that can do that are my soft spots, so I too am biased with this one.
Still not through their entire discography, but I haven’t been disappointed yet, not once. I listened to this in the dead of night and it was haunting and transcendental. Don’t know how often I’ll be listening to this compared to their other albums, but I honestly couldn’t see any issues in this personally.
Definitely a lot different than music I’ve heard of before, but the atmosphere is very strange and like nothing I’ve felt before. The layers of grimy and dark instrumentation make for a very unique experience and one that isn’t often as easily creatable in other albums. The more I listen to it, the more I end up liking it.
Ok screw it, I’ll give it the extra point. It doesn’t just have to be Soundtracks for the Blind to be perfect. Throughout the months I’ve grown to love this project quite a lot. It’s one of the albums that perfectly conveys everything that I enjoy about an album and consider to be worthy of such a high score. The atmosphere is angst-ridden and nihilistic and the tone on this entire project is just unmatched and constantly shifting in terms of energy. The lyricism is also ... read more
Edit: i love Earl.
Well idk what to say. This continues to grow on me as a listener and I’m continuing to appreciate Earl as a unique rap artist and emotionally potent lyricist. Short and sweet, just wish it had a little bit more than 25 minutes. Still really damn good though.
I don’t think I’ve heard anything like this before. Nujabes’s production is phenomenal and beautiful and Shing02’s delivery and lyricism is not only cleverly well-executed, but so relatable and explore themes not often conveyed in hip hop this interestingly and heartwarmingly well.
This project is ridiculous. It’s eccentric in sound, but inviting and unique—constantly shifting in tone and style, managing to pack so much in tracks that aren’t even that long. The concept behind this album is something else. Slauson Malone has described the context of this album on the surface on his Instagram page if you’re interested. It’s fascinating. This is what I needed after being bored of hip hop for quite some time for lacking a sense of creativity and ... read more
Edit: the only problems I have with this album is “Across the Sea”. Unfortunately can’t get into it because it does give me an overall off-putting creepy vibe. But overall this album is quite addicting and consistent, just wish some tracks packed a stronger punch.
I don’t know why but this is strangely addicting...
Electrifying, steamrolling, destructive—these are only but a few adjectives that can be used to describe this behemoth of an album in Boris’s discography that combines everything that makes the band so enigmatic and puts them all together. My second favorite Boris album.
It’s important to note that the version of this album on Spotify is the 2016 Deluxe edition reissue, which contains many of the unreleased tracks not originally present on the release years prior on CD and ... read more
Boris goes hardcore punk on this album. It’s either me and I don’t understand the genre or don’t have much experience with it, or this just outright was bad. And to me, it felt like very much the latter. It was too short, too inconsistent, and in general kind of boring and frustrating to listen to for a vast majority of the time I spent listening to it. Definitely on the weaker side of things in their discography.
Another fantastic Boris release. Not as potent as the legendary pieces of their discography, but great nontheless.
When combining different versions of songs from the English release, Japanese release, and live performance, I’ve essentially created an ideal version of what this album would perfectly look like if it was consistent all the way through. Props to that one user on rym for the recommendation!
Im a fan of industrial, but this just doesn’t cut it for me, ironically enough.
Chamber folk paired with avant-garde/progressive elements, freaky and unique lyricism and vocals, and obtuse melodic progressions left and right? Hell yes to that. I love this.
What’s with Japan and having some of the best live albums of all time? This is insanity. Definitely not for everyone and might be off-putting at first, but holy shit. They have 98.12.28, this, Soul’s True Love, what more could you ask for? If you’re a music nerd, this is a must-listen.
Although it isn't arguably as "grand" in nature as the monsters in their discography (e.g. SftB, TbK), it's still a very solid effort from the experimental rock group and an overall enjoyable and consistent record. Definitely more accessible than some of their other projects, I'd say, but I enjoy it quite a bit nonetheless.
