This record had kinda left me speechless. Few albums manage to do what this album brings to the table—going beyond the norms of past albums in an band’s discography while managing to fluidly blend completely polarizing sounds together to create a brooding atmosphere like no other. This is experimental rock at its finest. Beth’s vocals are emotionally potent as ever and the sounds on this album feel haunting and dark front to back. I’m in love with it. That’s all I ... read more
Not bad, but not particularly good. I find it to be quite overrated. I’ve heard better Dance-Pop tunes and frankly I find the progression on this album to become too formulaic, bloated, and repetitive. Regardless, I did have some fun listening to it.
You know what? Fuck it. This album is just so much fun and I constantly return to it without feeling bored. It’s some funky, instrumentally diverse (from strings to piano), electronic-based, forward-thinking dance pop/house album that I can’t get enough of. I didn’t know I needed such an uncompromising mixture of different sounds that manage to work together so fluidly, but here we are.
Fuzzy, colorful, glitchy, strange, and unique pop. Lot of memorable moments and consistent overall.
This is without a doubt one of the best soundtracks I’ve heard in my life and spending the last few days just watching the show (which I really ended up loving, so I can thank my exploration of this soundtrack for getting me into it) has further solidified that for me. Gorgeous, emotional, hypnotic, and chilling. And ramp all of that a few levels when you listen to it in the show.
Edit 2: damn. These albums been really growing on me huh.
Edit: Ok, it’s grown on me. AND NO, it’s not because of Fantano. I still think it has its flaws, but what I originally thought was alienating and too inconsistent is better than I thought. I still don’t like Earfquake all that much tho.
I want to love this, but I can’t rn. I’ll give it another shot at some point.
One of the finest jazz records in existence, drawing influences from Hindustani Classical and various other unique sounds to create a one-of-a-kind spiritual jazz experience.
Kourosh Yaghmaei—one of earliest pioneers of psychedelic rock and pop in post-revolution Iran who was one of the first people to bring the electric guitar to the country—was one of the most influential musicians in the history of Iran and a frontman of the Golden Age of music there when funk, pop, rock, and traditional styles were so potent.
Unfortunately after the revolution in 1979, the music scene in Iran fell off of its former glory. Music was misconstrued as heretic to the ... read more
Ehh... ngl, I find it too obnoxious. Not my thing despite loving my fair share of metal.
I used to love this thing. It was quite off-putting on my first listen but I really found myself enjoying it after multiple listens and it grew to be one of my favorites of last year. Sadly ever since, my enjoyment of this project has declined quite a bit. Aside from the track "Less Sex" (which is without a doubt one of my favorite songs ever) I find the rest of this album just too similar stylistically and I feel like in comparison to their self-titled, it lacks something. Their ... read more
The debut album of one of the most enigmatic artists of today and without a single hint of doubt one of my favorite musicians of all time—And man, is it magnificent.
Many may criticize this album for Joanna’s vocals being fairly undeveloped in comparison to her later releases, and although that is a respectable opinion, I think that this album has a very “childlike” nature because of it, a unique voice that demonstrates its early potential to bloom and become more in ... read more
Ok it’s obviously the best album of all time, but can we talk about how good Blow Out is?
A challenging effort from Björk and one that demands multiple listens to truly grasp (or attempt to grasp) its grandiose nature (no pun intended) but also one that is packed with lots of potential to grow on the listener and reinvite them again and again. The only issues I can see with this album: it’s the too bloated in some parts and some sonic aspects could’ve been done better.
With some catchy melodies, a fairly diverse and unique yet accessible sound pallett, and some fun dance vibes, this is one of Björk’s more “poppy” releases but that’s not to discredit the fact that’s a solid debut from her and easily one of her most replayable albums. It may not be amazing front to back but it’s still fun to revisit every once and in a while.
100th review!!!
Not her best effort, but that doesn’t mean it’s by any means *bad*. There are some fine cuts on here, a great blend of different sounds thrown together, and some really catchy and interesting songs. Anohni’s parts on this album and a general inconsistency in overall quality bring this down.
Best: Earth Intruders, Innocence, Wanderlust
Worst: Dull Flame of Desire, My Juvenile
Confessions of a Stupid Mind
Fixed that for you
Don’t listen to this shit
