McKinley Dixon - Magic, Alive!
80

There's some really good production and rapping on this project, some REALLY good stuff. I think all the features here were really good and fit the production, along with actually fitting the story and meaning of the album. This is a bit too theatrical for my liking though, which is unfortunate as I really wanted to love this more than I did.

Pusha T - It's Almost Dry
80

This is a good improvement from Daytona, theres a lot of really strong tracks here with really great production from both Kanye and Pharell. The features tended to be good, but i do think that Kanye specifically sounded really weird here in a way i can't really explain. There are some other strange choices here that i wasn't a huge fan of, but they didn't dampen the actual quality very much. Really good album!

Slipknot - Iowa
80

Slipknot is wayy more divisive than I would think, as they do a lot of stuff that seemingly most "metalheads" like, yet are seemingly widely disliked by these people because of a few minor things they do differently. Going through this you can see just how influential this album was, with tracks like Gently having some elements at the beginning akin to Gojira and the general sound being taken by other people and pushed to its limits. Unfortunately, the bloat here is really hard to get ... read more

Quadeca - SCRAPYARD

There are a lot of really good ideas made here, and the range of genres is really quite cool. I do prefer the more hip-hop songs on this project, but everything here is really strong. This is also something that can only really work as a mixtape, everything here is an entirely different sound without any work on transitioning, which i dont mind on this because of the fact its a mixtape. Everything has this theme of general self-reflection and growth, which is shown really well here throughout, ... read more

Black Ice - The Death Of Willie Lynch
75

This is a really interesting record. Black Ice, being a poet, does sound like he is mostly reading off poetry versus actually rapping in a lot of places here. Theres some really interesting and weird production here, especially for 2006, but it doesn't always hit the way it should. That being said, there is some great stuff on this project. Hoodwatch!! has a really infectious beat and chorus, and is one of the main highlights of this project, and the same can be said about Front Page. The ... read more

Iron Maiden - The Number of the Beast
95

At first i was a little bit less into this than their debut, but the second half really brought their best. This made me go back and relisten to parts of the first half and i realized i was literally trolling myself. The Number of the Beast has some of the weirdest and coolest time signature fuckery and really everything in was just incredible. I think that overall this is about equal to their self-titled project, each of them have their own charm and vibe to them that makes them both work for ... read more

Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden

There is so much aura radiating from every single track here. The effects on the guitars are really great, and the use of both having so many back and forth sections is REALLY amazing. It sounds like they have chemistry, those guitars should be married by now.

(un)familiar. - rubberneck

I listened to deadredline + noflashphotography prior to knowing this existed and thought it was great, so i figured i would check this out. It did not disappoint. The sounds of this project are soooo fucking good dude, all the weird things done with it are so interesting and appealing to me. Every track has just insane production and all the vocals are great when they're there. It felt like there was a range of styles while all being cohesive still, with one of the tracks having a ... read more

Pusha T - DAYTONA
70

I feel like this is clearly a good project with a lot of effort put into it, but i feel like theres something missing throughout nearly the entire thing. A lot of the beats feel pretty empty, like they are missing their low end or something similar to that. The vocal delivery is all really good, but it doesnt really quite reach the high for me that it does for so many others. Good album nonetheless, just not as good for me as it is for many others.

Lil Darkie - yang
80

I usually kinda hate how lil darkie sounds and delivers his words from the few songs i had heard. Luckily, this was very different! I thought this project had some really good tracks on this that spanned a lot of different feelings and genres, which helped make this really interesting and enjoyable. There were still some songs here that had that weird delivery that i still dont like very much, but a lot of it isn't like that and instead is really introspective and personal in his delivery, ... read more

Mac Miller - Balloonerism
95

This has to be one of the best posthumous albums of all time. It's chilling and direct while also being really laid back sounding. Theres a lot of emotion in this project and it really carries through the vocals. It also sounds really incredible, the instrumentals all have a similar vibe and connect everything without being "samey". I cant help but feel like this album changed a lot in meaning as it was being finished with mac's death recontextualizing a lot of the lyrics on ... read more

zombAe - deniAl

EDIT: i no longer think the delivery is bad, i actually think its really charming at some points

The production here is really good and different, it has its own style that i havent really heard before. The delivery though isnt really great here, and has a lot of parts where its super off beat and doesnt really follow a natural sounding flow, which is to its detriment here. You can hear the effort and emotion put into this project, which does help out in making this project more enjoyable. ... read more

samlrc - A Lonely Sinner

This album feels like it changed me. I laid down to listen and all of a sudden i couldnt get up or move, it felt like it was in control. Storge was a masterpiece but i cant say that the rest of the album was weak either, it all came together in such a way that moved me extremely deeply and meaningfully. Really incredible album.

Gorillaz - Demon Days
90

This project brings some REALLY interesting sounds and vocals, and it all works while being so strange and otherworldly. The audio aesthetics here are so unique and only something that Gorillaz could pull off as well as it is done here. Every single feature here is good and all the lyrics are also really good. November Has Come is literally the flimsy steve song though which is funny but the song is really fucking good so idec. Really great project, everything here comes together to build a ... read more

Vince Staples - Big Fish Theory
85

This is a really interesting album, the pop production works really well with Vince Staples' voice and everything works great here. I do wish there were a few less interludes/slow and mellow tracks, but regardless when this album hits, it HITS. This cover is also great and the surprise features really add quite a bit.

SSJ Daki - ARE YOU HAVING FUN?!
80

This is SUCH a fun album cover, and im happy to say that the actual album matches with it really well. This feels like Daki just having fun with their sound and goofing around a bit on some really good production. Enjoyable project that really is worth a listen if you're in the mood to just have a fun time for a bit :D

SKOTSKR - EASY LISTENING
90

Genuinely baffling and insane production, these beats are genuinely some of the coolest and most interesting ive ever heard. The delivery is very hit and miss, but it works a lot in the latter half to me. This feels like the pure essence of rage vocals and experimental noise in one project. Really great album.

90

The sound on this album is SO different from Exmilitary, which isnt particularly a bad thing. The production is much more synthy and digital versus the more natural sound of Exmilitary, and yet it still sounds just as good and fresh as its predecessor. Theres some really cool effects done here, especially on Blackjack. That vocal effect was so genuinely mindblowing the first time i heard it. MC Ride's voice also fits so good with this, despite how different everything else sounds. The ... read more

Eminem - The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)
65

Antichrist brought Bizarre back in his truest form and didnt even try to make him do the shit eminem was doing, so that really brought the entire song back around. Unfortunately this is also filled with a lot of of mid besides Fuel and Temporary really. Guilty Conscience 2 is also pretty funny with the back and forth, but this was really the last good rap song on this project. The Bad One chorus is really funny because he is counting down, he is literally saying that he is getting worse and ... read more

Death Grips - Exmilitary

This mixtape is so intense and in your face, it really just sounds like noise and chaos to the point where the first time i tried to listen i stopped after the first 5 songs, but it grew on me HARD. Even with how intense and in your face it is, i find it almost minimalistic; it doesnt ever have too much shit going on at once, but it still manages to be insanely chaotic and nonsensical in its sound. Everything here is so wild and rough while sounding so unique and different you cant help but sit ... read more
