Grim Salvo - MILDRED
75

Going in, my first thought was "this sounds like 'goth dance music'", with it's creepier sounding vocals and bouncy beats, which carried throughout, although there were some parts that still fit into like hardcore trap metal. I do like the multiple delivery styles done by the main vocalist, and they provide some good dynamic changes on each song, but they are too much at times and get annoying when he exaggerates them too much (CYLL, 1300L, etc). There are also some ... read more

UNIVERSITY - McCartney, It'll Be OK

This is such an interesting album, and a really enthralling project for a debut. I really like how diverse each song on here is throughout; the more calm and understandable sections mixed in with the insane math rock really provides amazing contrast. Theres some really weird and cool sounds all along the sides of this album, and the occasional sound effects used are awesome, and really add a lot to everything else happening. I feel the same about the vocalist, as I don't think i would like ... read more

Stonedage - ENTER THE SINISTA SIX
90

They say that there's so much music released nowadays that there's masterpieces out there that will go forgotten. This is a perfect example of that. ENTER THA SINISTA SIX is an insanely good debut by STONEDAGE, with some really incredible production throughout and really good bars. The grimy production mixes really well with the voices on here, and it really creates such a cool environment that pulls you into this world. Everything is also mixed great and every track works together, ... read more

Car Bomb - Tiles Whisper Dreams
90

What the fuck is going on here???? This feels so insane and out there in terms of anything I've heard in metal before, and it's so interesting and weird in a way that's extremely appealing. There seems to be just enough form or structure to create some sense of music, but it really feels like pure chaos put into audio form; it's really something to admire. I love a lot of the sounds and fucked up tempo and time signatures and everything here, and again I've never heard ... read more

Atheist - Piece of Time
85

Coming back to this now, I still really love a lot about this, but the mixing is really hard to stand. Everything here sounds kinda muffled and it really holds it back to me. I really enjoy how prominent the bass is on a lot of these tracks, and a lot of the actual instrumentation, vocals, and lyrics are really well done. Atheist deserves so much more recognition than they get, as they really are pioneers of their time that are oft forgotten.

ilysm - no matter how i look at it ..

This is nerdcore rap and it fucking rules. The production on here is genuinely awesome, def reminiscent of peggy, which i love. The range of sounds on here, from glitchy electronic beats to just pure sampling, is all done incredibly well; even with how different everything on here can sound, it all is clearly from the same project. Theres an occasional inflection i'm not personally a big fan of, but they arent that common and dont affect the overall experience really. The features are also ... read more

Varnish La Piscine - THIS LAKE IS SUCCESSFUL

disclaimer: im not french (🤯)
This is a really good sounding album, and I really enjoy the vibes that it gives off throughout. Although I don't know what he's saying at all times, I really like his intonations and delivery; it all comes across really smooth and enjoyable. Nothing really overstays its welcome and the pacing is great, a really good project all around.

Jhung - Always The End
80

Why has this guy not made more music? This is a great EP full of catchy and well produced songs, and you can see so much potential in this project. Jhung's voice is really great, and works extremely well for this type of music. I do wish the songs were longer, as it feels like it really could've spent more time on each song, but thats also a testament to the quality. I'd reccomend this to literally anyone, its short and easy to access while still being great music.

PSYCHO-FRAME - SALVATION LAUGHS IN THE FACE OF A GRIEVING MOTHER
80

This is one of the most intense albums I've ever heard, which is to be expected from the genre. It's SO overly heavy and crazy and it sounds really cool as an experience. The guitar riffs on here are really cool and appealing to me, and the drums are genuinely insane throughout; the absolute speed and power in each instrument is insane, and all them added together is a cacophony almost, in a good way. I also LOVED the booms throughout, which I assume are the guitar/bass/drum hitting ... read more

Iron Maiden - Powerslave

Another amazing Iron Maiden record. Some of their best work, this feels to me like it builds on everything that Number of The Beast did somewhat, and is the "new" vocalist's best work of what I've heard. Losfer Words is honestly an incredible instrumental track, and makes me wish Iron Maiden did more of these, even as shorter interludes in other albums. The guitar riffs and solos throughout are so solid and clean, it all really works super well for this album and it really ... read more

JID - God Does Like Ugly
90

The opening two songs for this album are genuinely incredible, and really set this album up for success. And honestly, it is able to carry this through almost the entire album. This is an extremely well done project. JID's rapping on here is great, and I really like a lot of the production on here; it feels so different from anything else he's made, and it makes it a super unique project in his catalogue. The features on here are also great; getting both Vince Staples AND Clipse on ... read more

Keep it Together - Signals

I really love this cover, and I feel like it captures the feeling of this album really well. The instrumentals on here are really well done, and the emotion really seeps through on some songs. I also like the overall theming and style here, it's done really well; everything really adds together and absorbs you into the album's environment. There were quite a few moments where the vocalist had some tones that I wasn't a big fan of, but their voice grows on you as the project goes ... read more

Quadvium - Tetradōm

The fusion of sounds on this album is really cool to hear, I haven't really heard anything that sounds remotely similar to this. I can see some INSANE potential for this band, and this does a great job of showing how skilled they are at making music. Every single song has some insane guitarwork that mixes with usually multiple other instruments and sounds, and they all fit in together great. I do feel like this project is a bit disjointed at points unfortunately; some songs feels like ... read more

Holy SHIT this is hard. The death/thrash metal combo is sick, and I'm honestly surprised it isn't done more. I really like the vocalist and their delivery, and there's some great moments of guitarwork on here as well. The speed and intensity on this album is so insane that I can't even imagine coming up with anything like this in the 80s. This cover is also really cool, the imagery shown on the cover feels like it perfectly encapsulates how the album sounds. Really just a ... read more

I saw this was only 8 minutes and had heard enough about it that I thought i may as well see what the fuck this is and let me just say I'm all for sexual positivity and openness, but this is just a bit much. It's all super corny and pretty poorly done here lyrically. The sound itself is pretty good, but the way it's talking about P.U.P.'s kinks and sexual emotions is so on the nose and unbearable that this becomes really unenjoyable. In a way, I respect this; I still ... read more

Pantera - Far Beyond Driven
80

Another really strong project from Pantera. Although maybe not as consistent as VDoP or TGST, it reaches similar highs and has some genuinely great moments. There's some really cool and complex riffs on here, and the energy is insane throughout. The closer, even though its really an entirely different sound from the rest of the album, is also great and works extremely well to me. Unfortunately, nearly every track has some aspect of it that feels slightly weaker than the rest, which all add ... read more

Heralds of Change - Puzzles

Relisten 4/10/2026 - Still really incredible man, nothing here ever gets old.

This is an absolutely wild collection of instrumentals. This sounds like something that would be made by eclectic bedroom producers, if not for one thing: this was released in 2007, which is genuinely baffling. Everything on here sounds really fucking good too, and its probably some of the freshest and cutting edge production of the time. You can really get absorbed into these tracks as well, they have such ... read more

KidTokio - A Green Summer
70

Found out about KidTokio from his feature on Egotrip, and this is a really good project. The production is good throughout (with a few weak points), and KT's voice + flow are really cool and unique, and they really work to set him apart. I do think some of this really blends together when looking back, which is unfortunate as it all sounded good in the moment. Even though this project is short, it also feels like some of these songs could've been cut to work more on others to ... read more

MoRuf - Tiny Mic Raps Vol. 1
70

A great collection of short songs! MoRuf really goes kinda crazy on here with some great bars and one-liners, and the production on each song is really good, albeit disjointed; this feels a lot like a mixtape, which makes sense with the cover and name. Really enjoyable project, worth a listen especially for the short length!

Heno. - Healing Out Loud
80

Found out about this guy from DTSMMMLF by Peggy, and honestly this is a really good project! I do wish Heno. would have slightly better enunciation at a few points and his flow can feel a bit off-beat sometimes, but that doesn't happen that often and isn't that big of a deal. The production is strong throughout, really smooth and clean to listen to. It really absorbs you into the sound, and the textures within each song are really nice. The features are also great, but honestly ... read more
