There’s songs on here with good ideas but the execution is so stiff and lifeless that it cancels out
This dude has always been insanely slept on- but I can’t understate how fantastic this album is
There’s a solid album to be found within the tracklist, but frankly a lot of the more mundane / samey tracks bog it down
This album has a couple big issues
Musically it certainly is listenable…
But the best stuff on here is significantly less catchy than anything off 24k Magic or Silk Sonic.
The Latin influences are cool, but when there’s no memorable songwriting or grooves to support them, they feel more like afterthoughts.
It genuinely feels like a whole album of bonus tracks that would’ve been cut from any other album in his “recent” catalog.
It’s a solid listen from front to back - but a lot of the songs leaning super short makes it feel more like an EP’s worth of full songs with lots of transitional moments in between.

Im hoping that all the short tracks come together with a full album listen (ala donuts) but as singles it feels like something is lacking
the fact that there’s people out here writing absurdly long winded think pieces over a tape that Jane scrubbed from the internet almost immediately after releasing it- perhaps proves why her scrubbing it was a good idea
