2010's From Memory
Listen I got really depressed when the quarantine happened so I got into music and this is my way of recording what I actually heard and on cuz I wanna make a list of my top records of the 2010's. This is not a numbered list aside from the top 1 lol
My favorite Album of All Time (so far). 2018 was just that year where music "clicked" for me, even when I was getting into music listening before when Sia and Melanie Martinez (yes I KNOW I don't care for her anymore) were my favorite artists.
This album was eye opening on the capacities of music being transgressive AND progressive but also incredibly poppy and accessible with some of the catchiest songs you'll ever hear in your life. The best part is that this is not even the peak of their power cuz despite this being incredibly progressive in the ideas of sexual and romantic identity and righteous revelry towards the political system that oppresses those that dare to challenge the hierarchical systems with snark and a joyous "black girl magic" energy...we can go further. We can go further into breaking away from gender binary and beyond. I'm not holding my breath cuz after all, we're just human, but nothing has yet come close of creating the magic this album gave me.
