ITZY is back! but something/someone is still missing
Everything regarding ITZY's 2nd full album 'BORN TO BE' feels a bit off. From Lia's hiatus to JYP Ent. constant lack of effort to promote the group properly. But nevertheless, I was still pretty excited for this new LP to drop. I liked 'Crazy In Love' more than most people, but the last 3 EP (2022/2023) kinda made me crave for more tasty stuff to listen to. Sure there were a couple of well pulled tunes here and there, I liked most of the ... read more
I think it's the first time I've been that surprised by an ITZY single. Not because the music is especially new or outstanding, but because ITZY going for this type of sound caught me off guard. I wasn't expecting them to opt for this colour. One could say some of the stuff they had on 'Kill My Doubt' also departed from the usual Itzy-esque sound, but those weren't as good as "Mr. Vampire", and I didn't have any positive reaction right after listening to them. However, when I started ... read more
Billlie's first ever mid song... Of course I came in with some expectations like for any Billlie track, and those weren't met with this release. It's still a pretty decent tune and I forgive them for it.
My first rating/review of the year goes to Siyeon's new solo "start over". While it does sort of fit the general Dreamcatcher sound palette, because it doesn't dive into EDM like many DC's songs and doesn't use rock elements the same way, the track gets its own identity. Siyeon vocals are pretty intense, and even if she already showed in previous solo works her amazing vocal capacity, the way she delivers the lines with such emotion is always remarkable to me.
I'm very sorry to all of his fans. This sounds like someone who programmed an AI to emulate his voice, like I've heard AI covers sound more natural and with more emotion/soul than this... And before you come at me, I know the guy can sing well without all the fancy/useless vocal production, so why ruin his voice with stuff like this? Hopefully, the military journey will make him realize he should stay with the essentials, stop with the obnoxious and overdone vocal treatment, and go for ... read more
Good? For sure. Great? Almost.
I didn't listen to all of KEY's discography but I loved what I heard in 'BAD LOVE' and 'Gasoline', good for me 'Good & Great' follows with the same colour and it's just as good, but not as great, despite being really good!
The title track sets up the tone for the EP in a super catchy way, and the following tracks have what it takes to be as fun. Basically, 'Good & Great' is just a bunch of synth-funk tunes put together, and this is both a good and ... read more
It was a nice idea to finally give this small EP a go!
I can't remember how I ended up putting POW's debut EP 'Favorite' on my list of releases to check out, but I'm glad I did. There are two distinct and opposite auras inside this project, strong and energetic sounds with "Favorite" and "Amazing" as well as a chill and mellow vibe with "Dazzling" and "Slow Dancing". And both are pulled very well! It's a nice debut EP and despite the whole thing not ... read more
Just like 90% of the world's population, I don't really get the need for this. NewJeans' discography is already pretty neat, all of us like the songs as they are, and don't need a new taste of the track as we find all we need in the original version. Those who didn't like the original much, probably won't like these new renditions any better, as they're simply not as good. Nevertheless, I don't think any of the remixes are super awful, the "Ditto" one is actually nice but if you take ... read more
"BORN TO BE" represents a premier for the group's musical career as it's their first track without Lia, arguably the most skilled vocalist of the group (disclaimer: i love itzy and i think all of them are great singers and are amazing live performers). The song is quite different to most of the stuff they've already done, and it fits them well. I can almost hear a sort of blending between "Mafia" and some of the noisy songs in 'Crazy In Love'. The verses are all nice and I ... read more
Mind you, I found out about Weeekly's latest EP only today after I saw them perform "Backwards" at Music Core, a month following its release. And so if you're wondering what's my favourite song here, "Backwards" is the answer, but we'll get to it a bit later, after some talk about their situation. Like way too many girl groups from pretty small companies, when they have a successful boy group (THE BOYZ), the girls are left behind, which means having to face some more ... read more
The soft instrumental really brings the best out of her low and warm tone. It's nothing amazing but it's such a soothing experience, even with the slightly more powerful parts. I like her voice and truly think she's an impressive vocalist, this track doesn't portray her skills much but that's not the goal either. It remains a nice little and peaceful tune, perfect for the season.
What I'm about to say is kinda awful but in a way, I'm glad the music sucks. Because at least people will not listen to it, and so won't support minors working in that hella toxic industry, even more toxic for young girls – myself included.
I don't feel like doing a proper review because many already did great and I don't have anything better to say but... yeah there's still some stuff I want to say. First of all, I just feel like for some reason BLACKPINK would have pulled it off ... read more
Right off the bat, this cover looks super cool! Now I can only hope for the music to be as good, and to be honest I trust Billlie and their team with that.
After my first listen, I think it's not as great as I expected it to be, but in "it's not as great", there's great, and "the soul savior'' is still a great tune. Once I passed the first listen and got ready for what's to come, my enjoyment for it only grew. I'd say it's a bit different from most of the group's work, more ... read more
After checking out 'Phantasy Pt. 1 Christmas In August', I'm rushing over 'Phantasy Pt. 2 Sixth Sense' with a couple of expectations in my bag. And those expectations were met! With part 2 The Boyz took a very different turn, to the point it's almost impossible to see both parts being combined into one single album. While the first part was pretty bright, with 'Sixth Sense', the group went for a rather dark atmosphere, ditching the dance-pop tunes for dimmer rnb and electropop tracks.
Funny ... read more
I haven't listened to The Boyz since 'Be Awake', I found out today that I didn't check their latest project 'Phantasy Pt. 2' and realized I missed the release of Part 1 as well, so here I am!
I'm super pleased with the first half of their new full album – even tho it doesn't feel like a full album as it's very common to see groups cutting "eras" in 2 to 4 parts with EPs and they don't go on calling them a full LP. Anyway, this release is such a breath of fresh air after the mid ... read more
Very odd vocal mixing but I guess it fits their name...
Also quite odd how the members learned the fact they would do an English version of one of their songs at the same time as fans... they could have been against it or preferred to do something else/better and their opinion wouldn't have been taken into account... Jaden I'm looking at you my sweet crazy love but without the sweet and love.
