Billlie starts this new era with yet another amazing pre-release single. With how they showed in the best that the final release always countains songs as good as the pre-release (if not better), I can only be looking forward to the single album to drop.
Does XG's new chapter go hard effortlessly? They go hard but not effortlessly.
The group's first introduction to the world last year with "Tippy Toes" and "Mascara" never really clicked with me. However, I enjoyed every one of their 2023 work starting with "Shooting Stars" and "Left Right" released in January. They launched this EP with "GRL GVNG" and the song acted as a confirmation of my growing interest in the group now that I got to see ... read more
It's a very simple song with a minimalistic production in the verse that doesn't do much for it. When things get fuller in the chorus with the synth, we could expect the track to take an exciting turn but nothing happens. And where this could be a way to make their voices the main thing, here everything sort of falls flat. The ending is also very unsatisfying.
It seems Kep1er is keeping its bright and fun energy!
After the good surprise that came with 'LOVESTRUCK!', the group is for once maintaining the same level of quality - if not more. There isn't a single Kep1er EP that I dislike but I can't deny that their debut felt incomplete (mostly if you compare with ZB1...) and despite 'DOUBLAST' being more complete and better, the follow-up 'TROUBLESHOOTER' wasn't so good. Then we had 'LOVESTRUCK!' which turned to be a good project and left me with the ... read more
What a lousy way to first introduce your group to the public.
I'm only going to talk about the music as I feel @asjiyn & @ShadeRD did a great job at covering the rest and I don't have anything more or better to say and agree with both.
It's going to be pretty short anyway as there is barely anything to say about the music. Generic, basic, overdone um what more? Forgetable. There's a huge lack of personality and identity in this first release. Y'all this is the pre-debut, you're supposed ... read more
I like the song but it would be better if they took 5 minutes to come up with a new melody or a better sample than this. That "Shooting Stars" melody is closer to being a meme than anything else nowadays. There are probably ways to make this sample work better but here it's not even used in a cool way and it ends up sounding forced and off. Apart from that annoying sample, I dig the track!
Me and the girls making bops in the spacecraft!
After ODD EYE CIRCLE's comeback, it's now time for another part of LOONA to debut again under the name Loossemble, a name chosen by the members themselves as it is a short way of saying Loona Assemble. The purpose of that group seemed to really be about bringing the girls together (hence the whole "searching for their friends" phrase). The group consist of Hyunjin, Yeojin, Vivi, Gowon and Hyeju (former Olivia Hye). If you've never been ... read more
Even if you ignore that it takes me 1 minute to get the group's spelling right, it doesn't make this any less unsatisfying.
I don't think it's needed to explain the background of the group but just for a quick recap, this is Queendom mixed with Produce but with Idols who already debuted and were/are still active in less-known groups. (More about the show at the end of my review.)
It seems there are two main pieces in this puzzle (yes, you'll have to endure my annoying sense of humour during ... read more
I believe V is the last BTS member to release his solo debut, and it looks like they kept the best for the end.
This EP does a wonderful job at bringing together a bunch of smooth rnb songs, they all flow flawlessly into one another, and each brings their little something to add a new colour to the piece.
Starting with the lo-fi touch on "Rainy Days" with its slightly detuned piano. "Blue" might be the only song that as lacking of that little thing that makes the other ... read more
I got the chance to see her play live at a festival a couple of weeks ago and I will forever remember how kind, soft and lovely she looked like. It was one of her first gigs by herself and with those songs. The set was still a work in progress and I guess you could feel a sort of nervousness coming from her as she was slowly beginning to engage with an audience consisting of some drunk folks and a bunch of fans like me excited and curious about her solo project. But it seemed that her ... read more
Those 2 tracks aren't bad at all but they just sound like your average k-rnb song. I still appreciate her vocal tone and delivery, as I think she manages to make the tracks feel more interesting and less basic, but it remains a drawback compared to the more unique colour and quality of some of her other stuff.
It's only some song for their game so I don't care much but yeah, I'm glad it's just for a game and not an actual lead single or whatever.
What a strong and powerful voice she has!
The best thing about this EP is how we are able to listen to the vocal powerhouse that is inside Jihyo for 22mins, and this in itself is already enough to make this project enjoyable.
The sound present here is safe in a good way, as it plays into dance-pop, contemporary rnb and alternative pop, and her voice totally fits these sounds. I don't think any song really stood out, but "Killin' Me Good" and "Nightmare" might stay on my ... read more
Only crazy, sexy, cool people will get it!
EVERGLOW is one of my beloved groups, I was never able to tell why but they hold a special place in my heart. They're not the most successful group and their discography is flawed but the noisy girl grush sound I tend to dislike turns into something I enjoy in their hands. It's been two years since their last comeback with 'RETURN OF THE GIRL' (should have been called 'DEPART OF THE GIRL' tho), and Yuehua Ent. is only willing to give them a single ... read more
My question before going into this project was: will this confirm my interest in the group and will it finally raise more attention towards them?
While I can answer the first question today, the second will need more time. However, the group concept is a real bonus in today's saturated K-pop landscape, it allows them to release many projects all through the year, without overworking the members as much as if they worked as a regular group. And thanks to their great production team, as well as ... read more
This is such a soft song and comes as sweet on the ear. It's simple in a nice way, it all sounds natural and there isn't a lot going on. Every element feels at the right place at the right moment. Maybe I would have liked it better if she made the last more interesting as I already like it and think there's room to make it truly shine by working on it a bit more.
It's a rather safe song but the chill energy totally fits her and feels like something that could have been on her debut LP. I would have appreciated it more if the song was longer, so maybe we'd get more development, as it really just sounds like a demo with potential here.
Who would have thought the day STAYC go down, is when they don't say it in their song?
For the first time, I am disappointed by a STAYC release. I've always enjoyed their work, if a song wasn't hitting that much there would always be a song or more to make up for it. But here "Bubble" lacks what made STAYC's previous title track enjoyable. "Not Like You" and "I Wanna Do" are two friends with bad taste and questionable looks, but they will say the reason you don't ... read more
