Just want to say it's cool to see CLC's main rapper (and she's really great at it) on such a sweet and soft tune!
The first song "Nightmare, is nice and I like the synthwave touch. The thing is it's too short too me, and the way it ends leaves me a bit frustrated, it deserves a proper ending because here it makes the track feels even shorter (maybe it's an intro but 2min is perhaps slightly too long for an intro so I'm not sure).
"NEW DAYZ" is also a fun song, I feel like lately there has been a wave of boy groups stepping back on the whole noisy music and trap edm heavy sound, for lighter ... read more
After much waiting, Jisoo is the last BLACKPINK member to get her solo single. Jisoo always had this elegant imagery, more than other members, this elegant yet funny and down-to-earth personality. So it only made sense to expect a song that would reflect this fancy image, which is something that was sure to happen with how the teaser pictures and MV teaser looked and sounded.
"FLOWER" for sure represent Jisoo. If there's one thing that BLACKPINK producers did well with all the solos, ... read more
It feels really good to hear aespa on a different kind of sound! It's really catchy and somehow reminds me of some Ava Max. Just lacks a bit of that WOW factor to me tho and being only 2:30 min long feels so wrong because I think that WOW moment could have happened if the production was pushed a little further with something new coming later to spice things up.
Is there a new k-pop trend where the goal is to release your worst song ever that no one told me about? NMIXX, Jimin and now IVE? (Hopefully, Billlie stayed out of this!!)
Anyway, this song has nothing fun or good enough, they tried mixing two styles in one and the outcome is really not it! I'm convinced the result would have been better if they stuck to one sound or the other, but the way they put the 2 together feels really off and it's not making me want to listen to whatever project this ... read more
After finding myself enjoying "FIX YOU" every time I heard it on music shows, I decided to dive into the full project.
I must say it was a nice decision to do so! Only 3 songs but all are very pleasant to listen to, I enjoyed their voices on all the songs and even though the production is not amazing it's still well written and produced.
I think "FIX YOU" is such a good track, I quite like the production and their vocals. The chorus is very catchy too and it's just a nice ... read more
To give you some background information about them, the duo consists of Lee Mijoo (former Lovely member) and Park Jinjoo (former WSG Wannabe member) and they were formed through MBC's Hangout with Yoo (a reality/variety show).
Now I came to talk about the music and first of all, it's been a while since I last fell for a song by a group I never heard of with their debut song, simply through seeing them on music shows (last time was with PIXY). Every time they performed I got reminded of Yukika, ... read more
I really feel like there are a lot of good things here but the outcome doesn't come close to what it could have been if produced slightly better. Even though I enjoyed each song here, it all seemed like at one point or another I thought "ah too bad this part isn't as good" or "oh i wish that fun moment was more present". They had everything to make it work and have a really fun project but it somehow ends up a little flat. And a song that illustrates this well is ... read more
I'm not even sure where to start with this because of how good it is. Billlie just dropped their best project (so far). 'the Billage of perception: chapter three' is full of extremely well-produced dance-pop tracks, with nu-disco to synthpop inspiration, funk elements here and there and even a fun moombahton banger.
With the third instalment to their 'the Billage of perception' series, the group keeps on releasing projects that just get better and better to the point I'm now scared they would ... read more
With how bad was "Set Me Free, Pt. 2", I came into this first project without expecting much but still curious to see if something better would be in there. And the conclusion is yes! But not fully...
The first track "Face-off" is - hopefully - better, it has some catchy moments and could be a nice song if it wasn't for the way his voice is being processed and the generic production. However, if yes it doesn't have anything special, it's not horrible either and is in fact ... read more
I've got to know her when a coworker recommend me her album and gave me her CD at work. I noticed she was on the label Figures Libres Records which is based where I'm born and is a label I truly appreciate. She's from Tours, a city close to where I live and made most of this mixtape between Tours and Montlouis, the town where I work and now partially live in (+ in Nantes but I have no relation to the city). All to say that I kinda discovered her by total chance and the things I mentioned makes ... read more
BC,NR live album yesterday and Parannoul today, what a great weekend ahead of us!!
A year after their debut with 'AD MARE', JYP's 2nd 4th gen girl group, NMIXX is here with their first mini-album called 'expérgo' (which means: to wake up, awaken¹). Most people have quite badly received the group's music since their debut, I didn't really like their two single albums either when they dropped and never really played those songs again. But seeing them perform at year-end awards show last year changed the way I saw their music and now I sometimes listen to ... read more
I genuinely wonder how his voice sounds when he doesn't have the robot voice filter on.
Apart from that, I think the song is just fine, the production isn't too bad and it has potential, even if it's not so clear what direction the producers were taking with this. About the vocals, without mentioning again the overproduced voice which is a recurring issue in recent BTS songs, I think if he sang in a lower range it would have sounded way better and the hard autotune would be less irritating. The ... read more
After a great debut EP and a second one that wasn't received as well, EXO's dancer KAI is back with his third mini-album and once again does worse than the previous one.
"Rover" is another example of things k-pop shouldn't do. Interpolates some average western pop song almost no one knows about out and attempts to get something out of it. SPOILER: didn't work! I guess it's still better than the nursery rhyme interpolation I heard yesterday but I really hope I won't have to go through ... read more
I've always been fond of Soyoon's voice since I heard her with her group SE SO NEON (새소년), I love how she uses it and I think she has a quite unique tone. I was really looking forward to this project, it's a couple of years since her last solo project (her debut LP dropped in 2019) and SE SO NEON have been quiet too since their 2020's EP, all of this to say that I had high expectations for this and was excited to listen to it. The two songs she released earlier "Bad" and ... read more
I think the title describes the song quite well tbh. Young because it interpolates a children's song, Dumb because it's just so dumb to do that and Stupid because yeah it's also a very stupid idea. I would have added the word "lazy" to the name as well just to make it even more self-descriptive. I really don't think we need to borrow melodies from nursery rhymes in k-pop, even more from NMIXX whose music is already not that well welcome. To be honest, I gave a pass to their 2 main ... read more
After a little member change due to diverse reasons, the group is back and I hope won't face more trouble anymore. Although I'm a bit sad we're no longer getting those great intros and the lore is gone (for the most part at least), it's totally understandable as 1. the lore was mostly made by ex-member Satbyeol and 2. it costs some money to make additional videos like they used to do in their debut days so I'd rather have the money being spent in their health, wellbeing and music than in the ... read more
It's a fun dance-pop EP like Twice knows how to make.
I think the first half of the album is really good but then it just kind of dies out. The first tree tracks set the expectations so high that the three following songs, even if they are not bad songs, just don't reach the same level and kind of fall flat compared to first part.
(More detailed review coming later hopefully!)
As much as I love her voice, I wish she had better songs. I really like "Without You" and I think "Peach Blossom" is doing fine but the other songs don't have anything much to them. I don't find them bad either so the EP is still pretty okay overall. I think her solo debut was better because it has some sort of identity and "Play" really added a lot with its unique colour, but here all the songs are your average contemporary rnb ballad track.
