A nice collection of pop tunes, I like those kinds of minimal songs with a powerful and fun bassline so I'm kinda biased anyway. Nothing too crazy goes on here but it's still an enjoyable project with its highs.
NewJeans opens up 2023 with a new song "OMG". While it is not as good as their previous single "Ditto", or their debut EP (?), it's still a solid track that helps them shape their sound. With some fast-paced drums, soft synth and trap drums, they still manage to offer something that can help them stand out in the middle of many other soft pop rnb tracks. I also think taking inspiration from Baltimore Club on this one too definitely take them out of the rest. Now, of course, ... read more
Amazing, 5 minutes of fucking great music. It's like he's incorporating hyperpop and glitch elements into shoegaze, I love it!
SM is back with another winter joint album between their artists to end the year. Overall it's a fine project, as usual, their artists have such nice voices that they manage to make any basic song into something pleasant to the ear. Not any particularly big standouts in there tho, apart from "Hot & Cold", "Priority" and "Time After Time" I don't think I will go back to any of those songs (maybe "Beautiful Christmas" for the idea of having Red Velvet ... read more
I love how her soft voice contrasts with the usual masculine and rough voice u get in the shoegaze and post-rock scene in general.
Every time they drop something you think it can't be any worse and then.. BIM! it gets even worse!
I'm usually not a fan of this quite noisy and loud music thingy but ATEEZ is one of the few groups that seem to do it properly without it being too heavy and annoying to the ear. However, I guess I'm not a fan of some of the vocal treatment here, it's a bit too natural to me, it being either because of the autotune or the way they are being processed in general.
"Cyberpunk" is clearly the highlight to me here, first it's the only song that gots its own sound and differs from all the ... read more
I find the latter half of the album better than the beginning. The styles approached here remind me a lot of BTS's earlier hip-hop days and there are a bunch of fun tracks in there. I'd say "Arson" is a stand-out track here, while the rest of the project falls kinda flat, Clams Casino did a great job at making an entertaining and interesting beat and J-Hope manages its way with a great flow from A to Z. Now the intro and interlude are absolutely not necessary and do more bad than ... read more
I might be over-rating this as I'm still under the hype of a new Lexie project and because I enjoy most (if not all) of her craft.
But really, I tend to find this album a bit more diverse in terms of sound than her previous ones. You of course get the dark synthpop colour she is a master of (even if I find this one less dark and futuristic than any of her previous work), but also get some touches of pop-rock and softer tunes, and in this way, I guess you could say 'The Happy Star' is not only ... read more
To be honest, some tunes here have potential, but the production is just so extra mega generic, simple and boring, that it ruins any good thing that can come from the vocal delivery and melody.
I think "POP" has its own ups and downs, while I find all the verses fine and enjoy the main chorus, this whole "pop pop" post-chorus is quite a deal breaker for me. I would have liked the song more without that part and it being less present (at least not as the intro because to be honest it kinda left a bad first impression on me). As for "Easy Move", I enjoyed it quite a lot. Even if the chorus is a bit simple, I still find it catchy, and it complements the ... read more
bro why are y'all giving this 100? did something happen?? this song was so huge in France when it came out lmao, i can't remember how she suddenly got popular here but she was one of the main events for like a year
Sometimes all you need to make your day is some Itzy to spice things up. They keep on coming up with those fun tunes and to be honest, I enjoy it every single time.
I like each track on here, the production is clean and not any songs felt out of place or annoying. My only issue would be with "Boys Like You", I think it doesn't play its part as much as the other ones, it's catchy but so generic and doesn't really fit the vibe and colour set by the previous songs.
I feel like this EP is ... read more
I listened to this for the first time while driving and thought it totally fit the whole mood of a drive during the night or with the windows down.
The album opens in a great way with a 2min intro and the single "Teen Rebel" coming right after. It's the song that introduced me to The Haunted Youth (as well as his first single) and holds a special place in my heart for this reason. It's probably the most upbeat song of the project, it’s catchy, light and easy to sing along to, ... read more
A promising debut honestly, "Tell Me" is such a bop and "Lovin' Me" is close behind. It's kind of disappointing to see that "Higher" and "Log In" fails to reach the level set by the first 2 tracks. This project really goes from best to worst I guess.
