It has quite a few highlights to be honest but I still expected something more from an album that contains one of the group's best title tracks: "Blood Sweat & Tears'. The first half of the album is honestly good but once you've passed through "Stigma" and "First Love", it just gets bad (with the expectation of "Awake", "Lost" and 2! 3!").
To be honest, SEVENTEEN is one of the few boy groups who manage to keep on dropping records that are better than the average, and where they explore diverse kinds of sound without falling into some sort of cliché version of these different genres.
I tend to like the lighter r&b tunes like "Embarrassed" and "24/7=Heaven", as for the rest it's more or less forgettable.
After years of never really checking out BTS's discography, I decided to start diving into their past craft. This would be pretty average without the intro, skit, etc... but they don't bring anything to the table and are easy skips. I did enjoy "Like" quite much tho.
To be honest, I find this EP good enough and it's a charming combination of light songs. "Selfish" is obviously annoying and feels like a way too long intro, but once you went past it, you discover 3 lovely songs. With the catchiness of "Lay Low", the smoothness of "Blood Moon"'s rnb and the sweet closer "Melody", despite its unnecessary rap verse.
What first comes to my mind with ‘SMITHEREENS’ is that it feels less pop than Joji’s last two albums. By this, I mean that it's less upbeat and goes deeper towards melancholic sonorities. I find that it almost feels more like his first EP ‘In Tongues’ but with a more polished sound, as it mostly contains very emotional and sad themes (not saying his two previous projects were filled with happiness either). It also feels like his more ambient project as of now. It's ... read more
La Femme presents to us a very theatrical album, just like the name implies.
Going through this album feels like going on a trip to Spain during late spring when the flowers are all looking wonderful, and when the night falls you put on this project to finish the day in the best way. They mix their well-known synthpop and psychedelic sound with Latin sonority and the result is great. All of this with dreamy guitars and trumpets here and there to perfect the edges of the project.
The group ... read more
LE SSERAFIM is back with a very fun and interesting title track and b-sides better than average.
First of all, can we mention how good "The Hydra" is? Thank you!!!
Now if we talk about the title track, “ANTIFRAGILE” did make a confusing first impression on me, but as the song went on, I got 100% in. It’s super catchy, and the melodies are nice. I don’t know yet if I prefer “FEARLESS” to this, and even if they sound really different, I seem to enjoy ... read more
Once again, (G)I-DLE showcases a bunch of different tones in a quite cohesive piece. To tie each song together, the group navigates with this vintage sound and it works pretty well. However, now that they've come out of their comfort zone concept-wise, I hope they do the same with their music. It still and always feels a bit too comfortable, they pull it off very nicely for sure and it sounds nice, but apart from "Change" and "Sculpture", I didn't feel any wow moment. ... read more
Quite annoying that after the great projects she's been dropping since 2020, she came up with an EP that sort of feels like a failed copy of those. The energy is there but it still feels underwhelming and doesn't get through.
To me "FYB" is messy and because it is a very short song, nothing really gets to settle in. In "Pocket" she navigates between soft moments and heavy guitars, and while she has been able to pull that off very well in previous works, here it just doesn't ... read more
Tove Lo has always been an amazing songwriter, able to create such catchy and well-written music. While I wasn't the biggest enjoyed of her latest album, I am so pleased to find something I enjoy way more here. I don't think she needs to prove anything to anyone anymore and yet this project is just another proof of her talent and capacity to craft amazing tunes.
'Dirt Femme' brings us a bright yet obscure pop moment, with a great touch of synthpop and Tove Lo's untouchable authenticity. She's ... read more
Playgirl is here to show the girlies how it’s done!
Three years have passed since her promising debut ‘High Highs to Low Lows’. In the meantime, she filled up the wait with a handful of singles. 3 good rnb songs in 2020 and in 2021, the singles that would give us a first idea of what the new lolo sound would be like with “Galipette” and “Scooter”, both leaning towards hyperpop. Anyways, I’ve been enjoying each of the singles a lot and they really ... read more
I was kinda looking forward to this because I liked the looks and concepts they had but giirrllllll I hope my daughters improve the music! We don't have forever!!!!!!
Well, I have to admit "We Fresh" is a bit messy but I don't know, there's something fun about it. However I don't think it will a song I will search to listen to, the high-pitched synth in the drop tends to get a bit annoying so the only reason to look up the MV is FOR the MV because it's better than the song itself. ... read more
For her debut EP Chaeyeon (ex-iz*one) comes with an EP that is quite fun and to be honest it feels like it could be the soundtrack for some nice teen movie.
Dreamcatcher is back with a very dreamcatcher project. Nothing risky here but a good project overall. I’d say the highlight here is the nostalgic and dreamy “Fairytale”, as I love this kind of song. The title follows Dreamcatcher's usual sounds and there’s nothing bad about it, as it’s well delivered.
We have a quite a strong intro but to be honest like most of theirs. I like the more nature-inspired sound it has to it when we get midway and I think it’s ... read more
I think the guys are having fun making those songs and you can feel it every time because there's indeed always something fun in all their projects. It feels like listening to a group of friends having a great time making tunes together.
I feel like I'm the only one on this website keeping in touch with them frr
There are no significant disappointments here nor amazing moments, it's there and I don't think there is any song that is memorable enough to make the project last in time. With their previous release, I could still recall at least one moment from the title, a line or melody, anything. But here once I moved on to the next song and by the time I'm done listening to the project, I can't recall anything from it. I ... read more
