This sounds like Weyes Blood but 90s pop rock (in a good way)
Simple yet enticing. Short and approachable yet carrying lots of depth and emotion. Really enjoyed this!
I appreciate the instrumentals and the clear display of skill and talent but I found this to be a boring album. It's too long, with too many songs. It was impossible for me to sit and listen to this in any meaningful way. It hasn't landed at all, perhaps it would with a third or fourth listen, but frankly I doubt there will ever be a third listen.

Moroccan-Dutch indie artist Roufaida debuts with an interesting mix of Western-style modern pop with North African and Arabic influences. She switches between English, Arabic and Tarifit Berber seamlessly on this 22 minute EP. Sometimes it's even hard to tell at all what language she is singing. All-in-all a very unique experience. Recommended!
Extremely uninspiring and generic. Ghost have never been a top tier band, but at least their older albums were enjoyable, they tried new things and had their unique shtick, a lot darker sound with some complexity in the song structure and the sound. Then came IMPERA, with the most boring pop rock I heard in 2022. And this is somehow even worse. It's hard to believe this is the same band that released Meliora.
In the ocean of music that we are exposed to these days, I'm sure everyone has that one album or artist to which they always come back to. A rock to hold on to in the storm. For me this is that album. I always find myself coming back to this when I'm down, ever since I first discovered it nearly a decade ago.
Teaser and the Firecat is an intricate blend of sweet melancholy, hope, love and peace. There is nothing groundbreaking here, it's quite conservative folk music, but this is part of its ... read more
"This is not a test"
Unfortunately not.
A beautiful post-rock album mixing spoken word with unconventional yet beautiful instrumentals. We've got very tight drumming and guitars playing dissonantly, combining into a very unique sound. The poems themselves are great but the delivery here really elevates it. I'm really surprised that this is so unknown, considering the mastery of every individual on this album. This band reminds me of bands like Slint, so if you like Spiderland I can highly recommend this! Favourite song: Career-Minded ... read more
Thank you AOTY for 100 followers! It's been a great 1.5 years on this site, discovering new music, reading people's reviews and just appreciating music in a whole new way :)
This album was a great listen. The droning sounds combined with the repetitive drums make this almost trance inducing! And I mean that in a positive way. Somehow this album is very familiar, with the vintage synth sound, yet it's also very strange and otherworldly. I speak English and some French but the vocals might as ... read more
Dutch-Turkish psychedelic folk rock band Altın Gün are back with their 5th album in 5 years. Over the years they've been reimagining Turkish folk songs with a modern twist, bringing in synthesizers, the electronic saz and lots of funky effects. This release is a solid one, but then, it's hard to mess up when they pull from the vast landscape of Turkish folk songs and culture.
Their interpretations of Leylim Ley and Rakiya Su Katamam are particularly amazing! A couple of tracks are a bit ... read more

This is a guilty pleasure of mine. Really, there is nothing to write home about here, *especially* compared to other NWOBHM legends. However, Praying Mantis differ from a lot of their peers of their time in how melodic and catchy their music is. And I absolutely adore the background vocals and vocal harmonies that they have throughout the album. Yes it's kind of corny but it just works so well. Overall this is just a really fun album to listen to :).
Holy shit. This is so good! I'm not into hip hop at all, not for lack for trying. I just couldn't find music that appealed to me. But this album single handedly convinced me I need to check out hip hop further. Perfect production, progression and very experimental and captivating. Every track is just great, no complaints. I love this.
(Anyone who reads this and is into hip hop please do send me some recommendations!)
What an absolutely fantastic album. Beautiful and contemplative lyrics carried by almost flawless instrumentals. A pacing only just fast enough to carry the uncomfortable reflections it shows you. It's a very engaging album, something which I feel a lot of slowcore doesn't manage to achieve unfortunately. So I really have no complaints here, this is one of the best slowcore albums I've ever listened to.
Edit: After many more listens, I felt I had to update this to a perfect score.
Not bad, but very forgettable. There is some great riffs here but they are carried by instrumentals which sound almost the same on every song; I couldn't tell the difference between the first 4 songs, then there's finally something slightly different with Eye, but then the latter half of the album again sounds so similar to each other that it got pretty boring. The vocals also were not very impressive. It's only 36 minutes yet it still felt too long.
This is what happens when you take LSD and put up some Pink Floyd and Tame Impala; you reinvent your life. How do I know, you ask? No comment.
In all seriousness, I never heard a Lil Yachty song before today, but just checking through the older discography I am not surprised people are so excited. This is a great turnaround, and I really appreciate it when artists aren't afraid to completely change their creative direction in pursuit of making art. Isn't that what it's all about in the end, ... read more
