some student of mine who really likes Tool kept saying that i had to listen to this, and it makes perfect sense that somebody who enjoys Tool would enjoy this.
...and since i enjoy Tool, weelllllllll :):):)
2. Here Come The Bastards - 4.5 - very fun way to bring the bombast
6. Eleven - 5.0 - bro the meter in this song is SICK and i bet you would NEVER GUESS HOW MANY BEATS ARE IN A MEASURE
The National reissue their highly acclaimed album, "Boxer", for the sixth time. it is here on 180 gram Taylor Swift.
their best project since White Men Are Black Men Too. like it's not even a contest.
i mean i'm sure it is but like-
admittedly not as strong as Pang in my personal opinion, as the flow isn't quite at liquified as that release was. this is made up for with some fantastic individual songwriting on specific songs. Bunny Is a Rider may be the cleanest pop song ever written. definitely worth the listen, especially if the debut was up your alley.
why didn't Chairlift take advantage of their frontwoman like jeeeez.
previewed the first track and immediately bought the vinyl. i felt like my first listen would best be on that.
thank goodness that first track wasn't a fluke. front to back, this thing is menacing. whether it is in its loud, no-wave bombast, or the eerie minimalist moments, the tone is a consistent creepiness and dread, with WILD lyrics to boot. a fantastic debut. i can't wait to see what this group does in the future.
the guy who writes for some of Rina's stuff comes through with some solid tunes, honestly.
there's easily some filler here, especially in the final act of the record, which balances against the strong first tracks. production is surprisingly pleasant and sophisticated, and Joesef's lyrics are illustrative and quaint. not bad. not bad at ALL.

4. Just Come with Me Tonight - 4.5 - one of the more energetic moments shines through. the story is very colorful and fun.
7. Apt 22 -5.0 ... read more
one of the more forgotten pop acts of the mid 80s. it's no Paul Simon or Peter Gabriel, but it still has class and fun grooves and songwriting. also has some of the best synthesizer solos like EVER.
- highlights -
1. Higher Love - 5.0 - it's a hit for obvious reasons.
5. The Finger Things - 4.5 - great solo near the end of the track.
somebody gave the love child of Kobaryo and Lil Darkie a fkn blunt.
the primary element of intrigue here amongst the more by-the-numbers trap metal and dubstep is the amount of time signature and tempo changes that happen all the time. some of these songs have similar melodic and compositional ideas that change speed three or four different time within the track.
on top of this, the album knows how exactly unserious it is at the same time and knows it’s just trying to have a LOT of fun. ... read more
i feel like she deserved better than the dumping ground of early January, but alas, here we are.
anyways, Gabrielle Alpin, the local-coffee-shop-core late teens star, stays in her lane and does so as innocently as she possibly could. one wishes for hardships like this. when i regret pressing send, it fleets in about 10 seconds. Gabby can form it into a song. make of it what you will.
everyone one of these songs feels like it can be the backing to a van tour TikTok.

the first albums i listened to in 2020, 2021, and 2022 were all very memorable and enjoyable.
can’t win them all, i guess.
i suppose my biggest gripe with this album is that it is at 65% effort from front to back. the vocals are good and have character, the instrumentals are serviceable, and the songwriting is inoffensive. but that’s it. this will meld perfectly into any Spotify playlist literally ever. nothing jarring, but nothing captivating either.
like a slick indie pop EP that's got that slight sprinkle of Remi Wolf to it. it's INCREDIBLY safe, but that's not exactly a crime.
2. Hands over My Head - 4.5
5. Is It Worth It Now? - 5.0
my favorite part was when the bass on Fragments of a Butterfly's Face went boom-boom-BUMBUMBUM
i have no idea what Quadeca is as a musician. i literally know him from seeing him on a Hivemind video once. seems like a sweet enough kid.
anyways, albums like this remind me why i love music so much. also, after listening to this ~experience~, i wanna know who hurt mY SON.
a perfect marriage of multiple influences coalescing into a wonderful unifying factor. throw James Blake, brakence, AG Cook, BROCKHAMPTON, Daniel Johnston, and a touch of Big Thief, and throw it in into a blender that's ... read more
i almost forgot i was listening to something until Subway Song came on and it was all like AUAUUAUAUAUAU.
anyways, this is the start of me going through The Cure's discography soooo yeah it's fine. kinda just feels like band practice before their first show or something.
this is short?
Joji could make one of the most critically acclaimed albums of all time if he went the next four years without a word, as he goes into hybernation a la Bon Iver and really cracks down on like 11-14 songs over that span of time. if he put in that much time, the album would be one of the best albums of the decade. Glimpse of Us is proof of that. when he gets rushed, the rest of this album is what happens.
maybe one day. but, today wasn’t that day.

the riff on track one made me feel like Airospace was about to hop on it.
anyways this is pretty standard.
5. From Hollow Words - 4.5
