i'm such a silent Asgeir fan that i forget that i'm an Asgeir fan sometimes.
this is my least favorite of his even though i still enjoy listening to it and find it to be a good experience. it just doesn't do anything new. which is fine! i got to pick and choose the tracks i like and everything! what a time to be alive!

you see all those track rankings on this page? the ones where you can rank each individual track? do you see how different the rankings are? yeah, they are EXACTLY right.
i've never heard of Tom Odell before this, which is a bit embarrassing given that they have at least 700k+ Instagram followers. given the critic scores by comparison of older works, i figured this wouldn't be a bad introduction, anyways. and when the first track came on, i was honestly shocked by how wistful and hypnotic the ... read more
i've never heard J. Cole carry a track so hard in my LIFE.

when Samia's away, girlpuppy plays.
this sub-genre of female songwriter indie rock is my guilty pleasure in a respect. don't get me wrong, Becca isn't reinventing the wheel with this album, and given that her career is just taking off, nobody is asking that of her. what this does show is a very strong showing from another great singer/songwriter that will perfectly accompany your hipster/granola bonfires and craft beer because your friend works there. the album is clean, the lyrics are ... read more
i used to make Matt’s mom a cappuccino twice a week. after a real busy week, i told her i had a pool party planned that coming weekend. she very loudly exclaimed “HELLLLLLL YEAH” and gave me a high five. absolute total sweetheart.
that moment with Yung Gravy’s mom was cooler than most of this album.
6. Betty (Get Money) - 4.5 (but mostly because Zach Zurn is the homie yah know)
14. Hot Tub - 5.0 & SOTY
i listened to A Blaze In The Northern sky last month and…shit, um…it did nothing for me? i could understand why it’s a classic and whatever, but i’m primarily in the camp that i don’t think i’m the biggest black metal fan.
maybe i just gotta drink a longhorn’s amount of booze and cut my arms up and then really get my shit together. is that the right mindset? will this achieve the desired affect of Darkthrone?
to answer the last question: i dunno, i ... read more
no doubt in my mind that this man can perform his ass off. the message being conveyed also makes me want to vote seventeen times. the instrumentation for the most part is what bogs this down for me. i wish it matched the excitement of his performance a bit more.
hmph.
4. Genesis - 4.5
7. Last Movement Of Hope - 4.5
HEEEEEEEYYYY BELT BUCKLE BILL
WHAT DID YOU KILL
BELT BUCKLE BILL
listening to this makes me wanna throw up after 4 shots of fireball and tip the bartender 5%.
i feel like the only reason Ode to a Friend has as many reviews as it does is because it's that "music reviewer's New Year's resolution" album. first week of January, and hell, i gotta review something, right?
it's a shame, this artist has only gotten less pretty.
Honky Tonk Hell will easily be one of my favorite country albums of the decade. that is QUITE the bold statement, yes i know, but god damn if i didn't give that release a once-through on every car trip longer than three hours. it's hard to NOT enjoy that album to bits.
in comparison, this album is far more stripped back, a bit more relaxed. maybe that's what gives this album it's familiar feeling. it's not trying to hard to be in your face. it's not shoving all it's got down your throat. it's ... read more
this may be the first instance of an album being more memorable than the album prior, but not as good? or about the same? country music or something?
Honey Harper and Gabe Lee blessed me on the same day, i'm a very happy fake ass cowboy. i had a guest from out of state visiting me in Dallas this past and they were like "where are all the cowboy hats?!" and this album is kinda that exclamation but it's also authentic.
i haven't a fuckin' clue what i'm talking about, this was ... read more
ever wanted to imagine what Owl City would sound like if he wasn't a cuck?

1. Towards Understanding - 4.0
2. Chozen / The Prevalance of Issues - 4.5
13. 4 Quarter Talks - 4.0
music internet friend said to listen to this. fuck you, Drew.
just kidding, Drew, this was kinda nice.
this album would so much better if the whole thing wasn't mastered in a YMCA swimming pool. the performances on here are actually solid, and the songwriting is meant to be tight. it's just that we're performing in the stairwell of the World Trade Center. it just keeps going!
3. Scatter - 5.0
i don't even have to listen to this to rate it. kinda clutch. good job, Holly.
