Inconsistent, and to my ears, the true start of Muse's bombast veering into goofy territory. Supremacy has some sick string hits, Madness is an earworm despite the kind of awkward synth baseline, and Panic Station and goofy but in a fun, camp kind of way. Survival also kind of slaps.
Follow Me could've been a fine song, but it's misguided EDM influence really kills it. Animals was the biggest surprise here after not listening for so long. The instrumental is pretty tasteful by this albums ... read more
It's a little overlong but, I'm surprised by how much this single stuck with me. Pops into my head time to time.
Some more edge than your typical post punk band. Great guitar work, with energetic but nondescript vocals.
Highlights: Ceiling, Invisible Wall, Era, Dimes, Plank II, Bells
While not quite as groundbreaking as their previous work, this might be my favorite. I was obsessed with the video for Boing Boom Tschak/Musique Non Stop years ago, and I just love the cold, metallic beats and catchy little hooks. It's just a bit more fun.
Least Favorite: Sex Objekt
As Exogenesis Pt. 3 comes to an end, I shed a single tear, remembering my gigantic framed Resistance poster, which has been in my dads basement, right next to the cats' litter box, for 13 years. Cold and lonely, covered in dust and cat litter.
Highlights: United States of Eurasia, Guiding Light, MK Ultra, Exogenesis 1 - 3
As I dive into Underworlds discography, two things are clear - one, these guys are really versatile. Two, the vocals can be reaaaally hit or miss.
Fortunately, I think this album has too many wins to offset the sometimes awkward vocals. From dancefloor ragers to nearly psychedelic electronica, many of the tracks really take you on a little journey. Jumbo specifically, is a 10/10 track for me, a simple snappy baseline giving way to great swaths of synths, and soft touch vocals that keep it all ... read more
I went into this feeling like Andre's latest comments were more of an excuse not to put out a rap project with such high expectations, but the route he chose was more than worthwhile, honestly. If you ignore the godawful song titles, you have 8 gorgeous meditative soundscapes. They may be a bit overlong at times but Andre does a good job at keeping the songs flowing, changing, and progressing. I get this might not be for everyone but, just try to tune everything out and relax for an ... read more
While I've always admired Swans from a distance, this is the first time I've sat through a whole album of theirs. I figured, I'll start from the beginning, with (from what I can tell) their shortest album.
The raw, uncompromising, punishing sound is pretty great. I think I've admired Swans from an instrumental standpoint rather than Michael Gira's vocal style, which I can't say I'm huge on. And while the album is consistently angry and loud, the repetitive nature of the songs wears thin fairly ... read more
Every track is solid as hell. Danny's writing is great and engaging, and I love his more understated deliveries. Andre 3000's comments about rapping while aging are ironic while Danny's out here basically at the top of his game into his 40's.
Highlights: Quaranta, Tantor, Y.B.P, Jenn's Terrific Vacation, Down Wit It, Celibate, Bass Jam
This is the first AJR record I was able to make it (98%) through, so that's cool. I feel like you need to not have a cynical bone in your body to really, really enjoy this.
My issue with music like this, besides the Melodyne practically dripping from some of the vocals, is everything the music is trying to convey, conveys it with the subtlety of running face first into a brick wall. This kind of wide-eyed, kid up against the big bad world thing backdropped with instrumentals begging to be epic ... read more
Really pretty track. Im still kind of bummed that it looks like they're straying from the post-punk angle, and Nigel being out of the picture, but I'm enjoying this more than Bending Hectic at the moment. Maybe the album will change that.
Fuckin space jam ass track
All of ConMans stuff as of late has been devoid of any of their personality or everything that made them fun to listen to in the first place
I really like the vibe of this album, the drums hit nice grooves and the atmosphere is dreamy in a simple way. Vocally, it's very underwhelming and dry. Except the one track featuring another singer.
Highlights: The Time Has Come, In A Moment Divine (with Cindy Lee), Endless, Altered States

Highlights: Into Dream (w/ Vitesse X), X-Periencia (w/ Panteros666, Neggy Gemmy)
Was pretty drawn in by the opener, and while the album remains fairly consistent, I was sort of worn out by the end. It's a solid album, the punchy, fuzzy production (reminiscent of Parannoul) is a plus, but not a lot stands out here.
Highlights: Protocol, I Thought You'd Change, Spot Me 100
I haven't listened to a lot of user created projects, but this might be the best I've heard so far!
There are six glitchy bangers, and I'm not sure of the influences here, but I think of Hudson Mohawke and Andy Stott put in a blender, especially the first few songs. I especially love the fucked up vocal sampling in the opening track. Very nice production and solid mixes. Keep up the good work @Malneezy.
