After Daddy's Home, which I thought was a snoozefest (sorry), this has me excited for some St. Vincent again.
Came for the synth bass, stayed for Allie X. Never heard of her before, but it's clear she has a great voice, and a knack for catchy songwriting. The album is very 80s synth pop with a goth flavor, and it all does sound very familiar which could be a bad thing if the songs weren't as solid as they are. Don't know how intentional it was, but some of the verse vocals on Off With Her Tits were very reminiscent of Don't Go by Yazoo, which kind of won me over. Even the songs that didn't immediately ... read more
I've had a hard time truly getting into MGMT's albums for whatever reason, and that's still the case here. It starts really strong with the intro into Mother Nature, and then doesn't quite hit that peak again. My biggest gripe might be the drum mixing / production on many of the tracks.
Highlights: Mother Nature*, Bubblegum Dog, Phradie's Song
Recommended by @Krolljr - I've never heard of Jacob 2-2 before, so I went into this pretty blind. The production on this is fantastic, full of details and vibrant sounds and samples. Kind of glitchy and choppy, and some of the tracks are bit more ambient leaning. The synth work is great, and at times reminds me of Ford & Lopatin. The songs at the core of the great production are honestly a little forgettable and the whole thing blends together, but certainly still an exciting listen. I ... read more
I dont know man. Attempting to ignore Dr Luke's presence on this. I've listened to this once and one time only, and during that time, I fucking uncontrollably laughed, like a lot. You can't tell me Get Fucked and Rim Job aren't atleast a little bit funny?? There was a brief window where this album was entertaining as fuck by the end it was a little exhausting, but I haven't really laughed like that in a while. Thanks Kim.

Hearing those piano arpeggios in Capricorn made me feel like the last decade was a dream
!! Coma !! I Believe Acoustic Version !!
Wtf OPN and Daniel Lopatin collab??? 2024 is crazy so far
Garage funk / art punk, I don't really know what to call it, but this band is fun as fuck. A high energy, strange album that's as catchy as it is unhinged. Sometimes the band brings too much to the table and it gets a little clunky and unwieldy, but they usually manage to hone it all in.
Highlights: Even Your Blood Is Electric, Dirtbike Bike (Vaccine Girl), Don't Make Stevie Wonder*, Escape From the Challenger Deep, All The Feral Girls in the Universe, Bingo Bodies / Long Haired Locusts
I'd call Audioslave my first favorite band as a kid, the first rock band I felt like I discovered on my own along with Incubus, after my stint as a diehard A*TEENS and Hoku fan (I was a Radio Disney child).
I have not listened to this album in probably 15+ years, and if you mentioned Audioslave to me now I would probably laugh - I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would. The first half is probably better than the second, and theres plenty of snoozers. I don't think any of it I'd put into ... read more
Always been my least favorite DG album. Sounds like they uploaded the masters to YouTube, ripped them using a youtube-to-mp3 converter, and re-downloaded them through Limewire. Contains some of their best and worst material. I'm perpetually confused how anyone can listen to Hahaha - lyrically kind of funny but by far the most shit instrumental they have ever put out. The hi-hats on Streaky sound like little knives thrown into my ears.
