Man I love David Bowie. The sheer amount of personality and zany storytelling on this album combined with memorable and moving tracks (all of them) make it absolutely essential and unforgettable.
The best King Crimson album. All of the great musicianship and talent seen on their debut with the fusion of various other styles and experimentation.
A wonderful pastiche of not only the pop and other musical styles of the time (which Zappa makes very very solid compositions and performances of), but also of the counterculture at the time. We also see adventures into more experimental approaches and musique concrete (like on Lumpy Gravy) in the back end of the album. This, just like the style that defines the first part of the album, is a delight done superbly.
Happy to own this one on vinyl. Very nicely arranged and very well produced (especially for the time) traditional world music pieces and wonderfully loungeful and relaxing.
God I love this fusion of prog, jazz, and Japanese classical instruments in a trippy and groovy mood. He does it very well and is a wonderful unique sound.
