cool record, but definite different vibe to what they would make, including what is still their best, the queen is dead. much more upbeat, but still has melancholic sounds and their unique sound.

daydream nation is a classic and i seriously love it but this is, hot take, not only a better album, but also a fucking badass album cover. i will die on that hill.
the first full on jazz album ive ever heard and it was... something else. ive always loved jazz but it feels like ive never heard jazz before and only just have. it really is a one of a kind album that can only be described as an experience. also, coming off of a few GY!BE albums, it makes me feel like in a way post rock is a sort of jazz rock/modern jazz genre less so in how they sound the same, but the emphasis on instruments and sending messages through insturmentals rather than lyrics. just ... read more
very inconsistent tonally. it seems to be going for some sort of theme, but its difficult to grasp what the album is trying to say, and at times comes off as more of a compilation than an LP. due to this the first two instrumentals have little to no impact and are mediocre at best. however there are flashes of greatness in this album. the one two punch of hated because of great qualities and Loved despite of great faults is amazing, both are probably the greatest songs on the LP and the best ... read more
an album very clearly well made, with some exceptional tracks, and really like nothing ive ever heard before... but also something im way too dumb to understand or fully appreciate. much respect for this and still one that i enjoyed to an extent however (even tho it honestly was scary as fuck sometimes.) one that i will come back to once i have a better understanding of post rock, or after letting it marinate a little at the very least.
