I've listened to a few of Pöbel Mc's tracks and this album is honestly decent af. I understand maybe 50 percent of this, so I go more off melody and beat, but this was exactly what I expected from a german rap album — some semi-serious tone, and hardocore rap mixed with electronic synth elements.
I mean, holy shit—coming from someone who never really thought much of J. Cole, one of the GOATs of rap, this was gas. I really need to properly revisit the rest of his catalog, but I can’t remember the last time I enjoyed a conscious rap album this much.
I’ll definitely be relistening—and actually pulling up the lyrics on Genius this time. I’m not the most lyrics-focused listener, but I fully acknowledge J. Cole’s lyrical brilliance. I just sometimes ... read more
Damn. I kind of feel like a monumental douche for never fully listening to this when it first dropped. I mean, I was 13—but still. I know a lot of gen-zers (but mostly millenials who were in their early 20s) were losing their minds over this album. It really was such a specific era.
As people have said, this might be one of the most overhated rap projects I’ve come across. People can be stupid. Biggest Fantano L ever. Sure, there are a few stinkers—“beibs in the ... read more
The musical value of a fart that comes out hot and spicy—still a standard-ass cloud-rap track, but at least it’s got a little kick, with some thematic and atmospheric flair.
Wow, I didn’t realize just how insanely short this was, especially considering that 4 out of the 9 tracks are interludes. I thought it was solid... Nothing that deserves to be overhyped, but nothing that deserves hate either. Decent 2020s cloud rap, with that extra something thanks to Fakemink’s chill British swag (sorry that's cringe). Most tracks on their own aren’t mind-blowing, but as a cohesive album, it comes together as a pretty ethereal, futuristic-sounding rap ... read more
This was pretty good! I definitely put this album off for way too long. Really solid Canadian pop-punk with strong emo undertones. It genuinely feels like the soundtrack to a 2000s teen coming-of-age movie.
That said, I have to be in a very specific mood for this kind of genre and aesthetic. Sometimes emo borders on what feels like the cringiest music taste of all time to me (their concerts probably smell like B.O., let’s be real lol). But when the mood hits, it’s genuinely fun and ... read more
Oof, I really wanted more from this, honestly. I’ll admit I added a couple tracks almost out of obligation, knowing we waited a few years for a new Keem project.
At its worst, this is mid. At its best, it’s surprisingly innovative for his style. I’m totally here for a more introspective, chill R&B tracks—The Melodic Blue had plenty of bangers—but most of these just didn’t hit. The more trap-heavy tracks are strong though: the title track, “House ... read more
Great jazz record, I think Hard Bop is one of my favorites. I prefer listening to jazz sometimes cuz it's all about the melody — obviously no lyrics involved in this, so this was a great listen to chill and to work on some projects without the distraction of vocals.
Great 90s hip-hop record, smooth listening all the way through. Everything I'd want from a classic rap album — jazzy beats, weird-ass interludes of random children on the mic, the whole thing.
Decent rage. Second half has some great hard-hitting tracks.
As a rap fan, Earl had only ever been slightly on my radar over the past couple of years, with my appreciation mostly growing thanks to my go-to music gurus on Hivemind. But I’ve gotta say, this new album is way more up my alley. I never fully vibed with the more jarring, experimental side of rap—à la JPEG—but this laid-back, stream of consciousness bar-spitting, sample-heavy project is gas. I can feel the weed-smoke-filled, sunny LA FOMO all the way from ... read more
It sounds like pretty standard electropop—Charli XCX and that lane—but not in a bad way at all. These are solid, even more-than-decent tracks, and honestly, good for her.
2020s pop really does feel like the era of unexpected comebacks and redemptions, with Addison Rae fitting into that narrative as well. Definitely worth a listen, and credit where it’s due: this feels like an album that actually had real thought put into it.
Rest his soul. That must have been an awful way to go. I genuinely respect how deeply his fans connect with and cherish his music, but I still don’t really get the hype. Top 14 on the entire site feels wild to me. I’m not a huge rock fan overall, though I do have my pockets, and 90s alt-rock just happens to be one of my least favorite ones.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good record. If I heard it playing in a bar somewhere, I wouldn’t complain—but I also ... read more
Incredible as usual. The vibes are immaculate, groovy, synthy and feels like staring up at the Orion nebula.
A great soft rock record, killed it again. Whole album has immaculate chill ass vibes.
Damn the first half was ass, most tracks don't deserve more than a 65, apart from the singles. The second half was the classic late night R&B Trap that you expect from Don Toliver. Was never a big fan of his, but I gotta admit it's such a unique vibe that not a single other artist gets close too, so late night coded.
I've been really liking Holly Humberstone, nothing really genre altering but she's got some really great, creative, and synthy beats. This is exactly what I want from a 2020s-era alt-pop artist—soft, chill, gentle vibes that drift between melancholy, love songs, and fun, classic synth pop.
