Mitski - Be the Cowboy
83

Coming back to Mitski after having matured musically was a good move on my part, this is gas. More New Wave than it looks imo, and that really elevates it for me. Great late night melancholic vibes. Ended up loving every song apart from A Horse Named Cold Air. That said, this is more of an album listen, apart from the obvious big hits — though isn't a bad thing.

D'Angelo - Voodoo
87

Damn. I forgot to rate this when I listened to this. Obviously incredible. I only got around to listening when D'Angelo passed away. Will be getting to more of his discography eventually.

Ally Evenson - In My Dreams, You Laugh At Me
78

Solid EP from someone who is easily becoming one of my favorite underground indie artists. Never-ending hits, this batch is quite chill, soft, melancholy and sentimental.

Also great graphic design on that cover, love it.

Bon Iver - Bon Iver, Bon Iver
84

Reviewed this back in summer of 2025 when I first started listening to new stuff, and came back to it seeing as though I probably didn't have the most unbiased music taste, despite being less than a year ago. This does holds up, and was even better now that I'm a tiny bit more of an indie folk connaisseur. Looked into the story of Justin Vernon's career and really admire his work more. Will eventually get to more Bon Iver in the hopefully not too distant future!

Denzel Curry - King of the Mischievous South Vol. 2
84

Denzel underrated af. Been losing faith in new rap albums, most of then being below average or lower, and this gave me some hope. Solid hardcore rap, with elevating features, and Dobermann with spike collar vibes.

Big Thief - Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You
88

Masterful. My first Big Thief record, and it did not disappoint, as expected!

Really into the folksy melancholy songs, which is an evolution on my part. Her voice stands out so much compared to the last 20 artists I've listened to, the range is fucking insane.

Perfect album to listen to on an autumn/winter walk alone through the forest. Indie folk is easily becoming one of the most underrated genres for me, this album having americana, alt-country and rock elements elevates it even ... read more

Beach House - 7
88

Took me a while to get back to Beach House, last project I listened to was back in summer of 2025. But what a treat every time—one of those bands where you just know the entire album is gonna be magnificent. And I mean… how could you possibly rate this below an 85? This is art. This is music. Psychedelic, ethereal, dreamy late-night vibes heaven—like floating on a cloud of weed smoke beneath a sky full of twinkling stars. An obvious album recommendation to anyone with a ... read more

Rich Amiri - Ghetto Fabulous
78

Honestly really surprised by how many hitters are on this. A basic ass rage project but the beats are a little more creative and fresh than average. Solid af.

The Game - The Documentary
83

Listened to half of this album back in summer of 2025 then forgot to listen to the rest. Finally got back to it in january of 2026. Solid 2000s west coast classic, I added almost every song to the playlist. Took me a while to get to The Game, I'd heard his name often, glad I got to it.

Avril Lavigne - Let Go
77

I knew this had to be a stop on my music listening journey, and even though this isn't my cup of tea, this is a great 2000s classic. fun pop punk, teen, emo vibes that makes me a bit jealous of millenials' childhood. Complicated might just be the best 2000s pop rock song ever.

Pencil Legs - Fruit under the Tree
80

Shoutout Grant from Hivemind!! This is a cozy lil underground indie album with some quality sad boy vibes. Perfect for a depressing but somewhat comforting night time listen.

Ella Mai - Ella Mai
63

I stumbled upon Ella Mai through a tiktok where a bunch of men sang her lyrics at a small indoor venue lol. Every time I tried to listen to this album, I put it to the side to listen to something better. Let's be honest, this is the definition of mainstream contemporary R&B — not anything amazing but it's better than listening to silence I guess.

Olivia Dean - Messy
78

Quite decent Miss Dean! I added this to the list after her previous masterpiece of an album. This does have a more smooth R&B sound, I like it too. One or two misses and the weird length interludes were a funny choice but it's all good.

glaive - Y'all
77

Not used to listening to this type of stuff, but I knew of glaive for a while and I was really really pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this project. Also, totally not something you'd think I'd have listened to based on who I am.

Rio Da Yung OG - 2 Faced
74

Decent stuff, I've always liked Rio's flow and voice. Nothing crazy to mention apart from the first two bangers.

Medasin - Always in a Hurry
75

Decent Nu Jazz, this really shouldn't be on anyone's radar, but I'm insane and add any album to my spin list. I think Graydon from Hivemind gave this a rec, don't remember for sure!

Carly Rae Jepsen - E•MO•TION
83

Nothing much to say about this—it’s not really my wheelhouse, but to me this is as close as you can get to pure 2010s synth-pop/dance-pop perfection.

Dr. John - Desitively Bonnaroo
78

Very, very, very random listen after one song from this album came on in the movie Holes I watched last night. Honestly this was really nice, quality stuff, just seems obscure and niche cuz AOTY users aren't rating this type of stuff, which makes sense lol

Jim Legxacy - black british music (2025)
91

Yeah this is very cool. The cover is sick. UK rap has really been becoming such an interesting scene in the 20s. Such an interesting mix of genres, some songs almost sound like they have alt-pop/rock influences.

Edit: (85->91) I've been coming back to this album quite a bit compared to the rest. Its honestly quite shocking how low this rated for such a wonderful album. Almost every single track is exquisite, such an expressive project, the vibe it gives off is so fresh. Feel cool just ... read more

Alvvays - Alvvays
73

Not quite my style of pop, I have trouble with twee pop. It's a vibe, but not necessarily something I'd listen to everyday. More of a late night chill sesh in the background vibe. Still quite decent. Reminds me of Beach House. Shoutout Toronto :)

Love the cover tho, holy shit!
