There’s a pretty good reason why unlistenable 2010s faux-trumpet faux-Bjork fever nightmare Bom Bom has now been relegated to the occasional gambling commercial… the reason being it’s an unlistenable 2010s faux-trumpet faux-Bjork fever nightmare.
Friend Of A Friend is a nice, jazzy track with an excellent performance from Thom Yorke in particular.
Jamie xx is back for 2024 and I’m still not getting all that much out of his music. I basically have the same problems with this as I had with his previous stuff- it sounds nice but it doesn’t really stand out to me. Maybe it’s just not my type of music, I don’t know.

I genuinely really like the instrumental… but then the whole song is squandered when Masta Artisan comes through with some of the lamest nice-guy-anthem lyrics I’ve heard. Oh My God indeed!
The Slow Rush is probably Tame Impala’s weakest album. The grooves and songwriting that made Currents so good are still there, but it feels like they’ve lost some of their impact and wow factor since 2015.
World’s Smallest Violin is probably the only AJR song I’d ever listen to willingly. I dunno, it’s just a surprisingly earnest and relatable (well, for AJR anyway) track to me; really helps that the noisy synthetic clutter that ruins pretty much everything they’ve made otherwise is kept to a decent minimum here.
Kevin Parker is genuine and deeply likeable, and as are the infectious psychedelic grooves that occupy every nook and cranny of Currents.
Apple Music has put T.H.E (The Hardest Ever) on its list of “Mick Jagger Essentials” and I think that’s brilliant.
Sure, maybe it’s the poster child for what was one of my favourite band’s worst albums, but Feel It Still by itself is still a bop.
I Need A New Money is the ramblings of a man who realised four decades into his life that capitalism might not be very good; and also believes he’s the only person in the world to make this discovery.
I didn’t expect to get into this one as much as I did! It’s a bit cheesy, sure, but the energy of the band is impenetrable and I really like just how consistent this album is. It feels like every track ties together nicely, which is partially down to how every track here is absolutely massive sounding- again surprisingly not a bad thing despite that kind of sound being easy to mess up. If you’re looking for a fun spectacle of a rock record with a ton of energy, then So Much ... read more
There’s a lot of stuff at play on Desire, I Want To Turn Into You- specifically within the creative, bubbly production which I love- and while I don’t think everything on here works there’s quite a lot that comes together in just the right way.
I wasn’t sure if I got the Maruja hype unitl I heard Kakistocracy and it blew me out of the fucking water. That was so good, it’s like if the apocalypse suddenly started happening in the UK and there was some guy playing a saxophone nearby for no discernible reason as well. The other three tracks are mostly good also, but I think they rely too heavily on the sax a bit especially during the third track The Tinker. Either way, it’s a great release and really very promising- kind ... read more
I’m sure it was Coolio’s last wish to have Gangsta's Paradise (Re-Recorded - Sped Up) released to the world!
