I swear this guy just can't miss whatsoever
WGWGSA blesses our ears with his music once again, in the big year 2025 no less. And after being acquainted with his previous work last year, it's no suprise that this was one of my mose anticipated projects of the year, with my excitement growing exponentially after the "NERVVVVVVES" single proved that he's still got that magic touch. And I gotta say,
This might be his best album yet.
It's honestly way too close to ... read more
Holy motherfuckin shit, sometimes I just chance a random record I find during one of my trademarked aoty deep dives and I strike goddamn gold. What an inspired and awestriking journey of an album, I'll be back for more from "Rishloo" in no time since this knocked the socks off of my socks! Some of the best vocal performances I've heard in recent memory, it's like a holy matrimony between "Leprous" and "Rush" sanctioned by the angels above. Put this ... read more
I think that I unironically like this better than Souvlaki and I have NO idea how to feel about that.
To be honest, I was pretty suprised to hear the deep cuts on this thing and how great they wound up being, and how much I enjoyed this style of space rock-infused brit pop. Guess I should listen to more Blur and Oasis eventually, since I didn't realize how susceptible to this style of sound I wound up being by the end of this thing. Like, of course "Bitter Sweet Symphony" is a ... read more
As someone who isn't the biggest Weeknd fan in the world, I found myself suprisingly captivated by "Hurry Up Tomorrow" for the majority of the tracklist, which is pretty commendable considering the near 90-minute length of the whole affair. This is the supposed final chapter of Abel's career, and it REALLY feels like it, thanks to the intricate pacing making this trek through his retrospective perspective on fame a kinetic one overall. The first third of this record really ... read more
Huh, I didn't know the singer from acid bath had solo stuff! And it's pretty damn good to boot, considering the short runtime (which is probably my biggest problem with "7 Songs for Spiders" overall). It definitely exudes a more stoner rock ethos compared to his work with the previously-mentioned, prolific sludge-metal act from which he derives from, and I'm personally all for this change in focus. It's some of the most plotting and calculated music in that ... read more
wow this sounds like fucking garbage
(Edit: mix was fixed but my points below mostly stand, this shit is just too boring and identityless for me to care about it or travis' future as an artist honestly)
okay so im going to just rant type a bunch of letters in the form of loosely connected words, because THIS IS ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE. Seriously, if you though ALL RED sounded bad since it literally just featured Carti appropriating Future's whole style, this just sounds like a ... read more
I don't hate sexyy red generally, but this just feels annoying and a thinly veiled attempt at a victory lap considering how successful 2024 was for Bruno. Still, it's not the worst thing in the world, and they seem to be having fun which I'm all for. Just not my thing ig
I'm a sucker for the juxtaposition on "Keep Planting Flowers" and how it starts so innocently and builds really well from the intro, it stand out in a good way from everything else, wihch is overall just some fine metalcore. Had some fun, but seriously fuck that cover. I really don't care if it's ai or not, it screams kitsch and unsettles me in a "wow that looks fucking terrible" kinda way, which is unintentional I'm sure.
You know, I'm not much of a betting man really - gambling just isn't my style, ya dig? But if there's one prediction for 2025 I'm fairly confident in, it's that this album will most likely be a much better and more reflective dance record than the new LCD Soundsystem project, as much as it breaks my heart to admit that. Despite how cautiously hype I am for that release, "X-Ray Eyes" hasn't inspired much confidence in me, mainly coming down to the fact ... read more
Just some wholesome prog rock fun!
I could see this one growing on me a lot, since it's immediately catchy and consistently easy to listen to, so I guess we'll see if I update this review / score or not in the future. For 35 minutes, it definitely feels longer and larger in scope than it actually is, thanks to its unique structure and well-paced psych fusions. Good stuff!
Featuring what I can only describe as an odd combination of Shabazz Palaces production and Eminem-esque lyrical rapping and stage presence (someone else brought up Lupe and I can say that checks out, I can even sense some Illogic and Busdriver on moments here), "Polymer" by Tonedeff (for the most part) delivers on this strange combination of stylings with a sense of purpose and intrigue, while also supplying us with some conscious, hard-hitting hip-hop bangers to boot. Definitely glad ... read more
Sooooo during my first listen, I was pretty tuckered out from all the night listening shenanigans that I typically partake in (I'm a loser who does nothing but work and listen to albums), and I found myself dozing off during the song "Half Asleep". This is funny because the title of the song is. well. you get it : )
Anyways, the album. It just hits you with wave after wave of crushing, deeply contemplative folk beauty, that never ceases to overwhelm that little gland in my eye ... read more
Perfectly blunt critic fodder, makes an atom bomb look like a quaint vehicle for the continued delivery of subtle political commentary. And you know, it being an incredibly noisy clusterfuck isn't an innately bad quality, the biggest crime this album commits is its refusal to elaborate on its so-called scathing critiques. They inadvertently made rebel anthems for people that benefit from the things they are rebelling against - more music for the talking point spewers to listen to, since ... read more
I can say with certainty that we've got ourselves here a pretty faithful and inspired posthumous release from Mac, which I'm definitely happy to see, especially considering last year's butchered Juice Wrld album left his legacy in a questionable state. That said, those with a keen eye may have noticed my previous rating being "Swimming" like a couple hours ago, and uhh, well I never really listened to a full Mac Miller project until tonight. So, as relieved as I was to ... read more
Yeah, I'm glad that my love for "No One Knows" evolved into actually checking out Queens of the Stone Age's other music, since I really enjoyed that song for quite a while without giving their other stuff a proper shot.
And listen, while I'm not ENTIRELY sure if any swedish songwriters were involved here, I'm pretty confident in deeming "Song for the Deaf" as PURE, UNCUT ROCK regardless.
The type of shit to kill your parents to, or do your taxes idk ... read more
"Hooked" got that shot on iphone type beat 😭😭😭
And yeah, there are some pace-breaking moments and inconsistencies in terms of song length and structure on this thing (The Doctor is weirdly short, I though they were gonna do more with it considering the build but whatever), but there were definitely moments that I enjoyed. The first three songs were pretty great, in addition to the wonderful "Night or Day", no notes really.
But honestly, most of the cuts here just ... read more
I stg this dude just takes post-punk and electropop to the next goddamn level, continuously warping the chaotic, glitch-infused soundscape around him to conform to his powerful voice that acts as a light source of sorts, guiding the listener though a thick fog of familiarity and his own spontaneity as a producing body. I can't fucking wait for "SIX TENANTS", it's gonna be PEAK yall gonna see
