And here we have the OTHER neo-soul adjacent album with a monochromatic color palette that came out during the timeframe of late may - early june 2024, that I for some reason missed out on until now. (Obviously foreboding part of review that I wrote before listening to the album and barfing out a series of diatribes that loosely connect to each other. Lol)
I genuinely think there is something mentally wrong with me, why do I feel very little listening to this? Could I be just some detached ... read more
I'm gonna need more listens to fully appreciate this, but on first impression I really enjoyed the first half and thought the second half dragged its feet a bit too much. The frequent use of jazzier elements was a nice touch, and manifested particularly well in tracks 2-6, but once the interlude ends it becomes apparent that the record's best and most hard-hitting ideas appear fewer and further between, even if I enjoyed "Justin" quite a bit, shame it ended a tad early for ... read more
lol i bet the ai image generator added extra exclamation points to the cover and she was like "welp thats the title i guess"
Damn, this comes close to matching paranoid's greatness for me and my silly little ears. The grooves are heavier than ever (especially that song "Changes", one of the best doom metal songs out there tbh) and on a completely unrelated note, I always loved the oddball dips into breezier and less abrasive stuff like "Laguna Sunrise", I can understand if that's not what you want out of your otherwise heavy headbang fest, but it adds variety that I personally ... read more
hot streak still going strong, early sabbath goes crazy π₯π₯π₯
this is literally just lcd soundsystem 2
A successful deviation from his chaotic approach on Odelay - certainly more focused and vibey, but falls a tad short of the highs present on his previous record. Still, Beck finds himself in a creative enough bag to carry this new sound of his very well, and I'm excited to see how his later work reflects this shift in focus.
What an excellent collection of deceptively well-made emo, it's almost sickening (in like a cool way).
There's so much variety here to satisfy almost anyone, from the more laid back and contemplative meditations to the more bombastic celebrations of sound, you'd be hard-pressed to find an album this year balancing such a diverse palette. The amount of times I went from vibing heavily to jumping for joy and singing kumbaya at the top of my lungs, well use your imagination for ... read more
It's okay, honestly I resonated with some of the deeper cuts more than the actual hits in the first half like "Confessions" and "Prove My Love" (although I concur that "Blister in the Sun" still slaps). The vocal performances teeter on being annoying at times, albeit not to the point of ruining any songs completely, it's mainly just a personal thing for the most part. And the production definitely feels a tad inconsistent, sometimes it's beautiful ... read more
This is like one of the best things ever made by anyone (or anything) ever, and I stumbled upon it by complete accident. I listened to Total Swarm and kinda forgot about WGWGSA completely, until the aoty algorithm backrooms served me with this project and I decided what the hell, let's dive back in with another album from them.
And HOLY FUCKING SHIT THIS THING GOES INCREDIBLY HARD
It's got elements of post punk, noise rock, synthpop, indietronica, and even glitch hop if you can ... read more
I'm just a sucker for "inexplicably every genre ever somehow even though most of it sounds like a miraculous accident unable to be replicated" type albums, and wouldn't you know it, Beck is the poster child of said style! While being a huge fan of Odelay, I actually never listened to the full "album with Loser on it" until right now, and I have to say that I'm a big fan of what I'm hearing! As to be expected, it runs the genre bases so hard, it's ... read more
god i wanna put that cover on my wall, so fucking cool
also yeah the album is just as cool really
I Need New Ears
What an insane listen! I truly can't fathom how incredible this album was to experience, it felt like this demented multi-faceted epic spanning the boundaries of folk and noise, manifesting in this once-in-a-lifetime journey through the weeds of observation and wonder. You've got a sliding scale of songs ranging from the more laid back folk cuts you may come to expect, to the noisy and abrasive showstoppers that span the tracklist proper, and every little iota of ... read more
Okay so originally this review was just a joke about how there wasn't a Big Time Rush feature, unlike the """"masterpiece"""" known as EA2, but after fully listening to the album, this is easily aoty for my right now (until mount eerie???) and one of the best I've ever heard for sure. I was constantly blown away by each sound, each moment, each idea, each and every track that made up this ironclad collection of explosive expression and profound ... read more

literally the worst fantano review I've ever seen, jesus christ man.
Inb4 fantano light 6 (until he listens to sticky and gives it an 8 for the sexyy red feature)
I DEFINITELY need most listens to fully take in every eclectic element at play here, but I have a feeling this will be my favorite Tyler album once the dust has settled. "CHROMAKOPIA" creates a window into this insanely personal world that perhaps parallels and clearly paints a more honest look at the Creator's hardships more than his previous work up to this point. Themes of insecurity ... read more
