This is some high school musical "woah oh! π woah oh π ba-ba-ba-ba-ba π¬" ass punk music that IM NOT KIDDING LITERALLY SOUNDS LIKE A WEIRD AL ALBUM COVERING GENERIC SKATER JAMS, LISTEN TO "Make It All Right" AND TELL ME THAT DOESN'T SOUND LIKE IT'S AN ACCORDION AWAY FROM BEING ON THAT POLKAMANIA SONG
Also just wanted to say that I do enjoy some of Offspring's older stuff, albeit I've mainly cherry picked the hits during the early stages of my ... read more
Edit (97->92->89): Grew off, still really fucking good but just less so. It definitely lacks the staying power albums above it have in spades, still a fun listen nonetheless.
Ummmmm... yeah idk what to really say about "Cool World", it's just easily my aoty right now without a doubt, and you should definitely 100% listen to it. I'm kinda at a loss for words, I mean it makes something like Daughters look like playground equipment, going for more of a sludgy (almost ... read more
An example of pretty ok song ideas being stretched way too thin for their own good, over song lengths that don't fit the pacing of ideas whatsoever. That may seem like a pretty singular critique for such a low score, but trust me when I say that by the midpoint of EVERY SONG without fail, I wanted them to wrap it up. The fourth song in specific trotted its feet for around 5 minutes longer than it should have, contorting into this 9 and a half minute death march through shattered lego ... read more
Not a wasted moment to be found. Better than Unknown Pleasures imo, it's just so consistent and ends in this spectacular state of euphoric stupor that makes my eyelids flutter. Fucking transcendent shit here!
While this may be my least favorite Hendrix album, it's still an excellent listen that exemplifies every positive quality psych adjacent sounds are able to exude. Really feeling "Spanish Castle Magic" and "Ain't No Telling" in particular, alongside the closer "Bold As Love" for being a perfect sendoff to this wild, drug-induced ride of a project.
I really wish this thing had more of a backbone to it, could have been more interesting but just favors for some stock, trite mush of dreamy pop with very little seasoning or any interesting qualities to it. It's not bad, mainly inoffensive and forgettable, although that first track could have been a template for a better, more developed album had young leanster and bladie gone more in that direction. But alas, it's nothing to lose sleep over tbh.
You can hear how much fun they're having making this record, both in the charming little interludes scattered near the end, and in their individual performances proper. It's something that I often take for granted with older hip hop albums, and can be clearly seen in each track on "Labcabincalifornia".
man i aint ever heard of berlin school, but if it sounds like this than consider me enrolled

"And you may ask yourself,
How did I get here?"
But seriously, how DID I get here? To this album? I don't even know who "2 Bad" is, I just kinda... well, I got caught up in exploring the odd catalog of this website. Too often I find myself clipping into the backrooms of AOTY and stumbling upon some crazy ass shit. And this is no exception.
What an oddity this is. "Idiot Tree" features this manic blend of political punk with chaotic jazz standards, and to put ... read more
First Xiu Xiu outing, and I gotta say... HOLY WOWZERS MY BRAIN ARE ON SMARTBOOSTERS, I NEED MOREEEEEE THE NOOISISEEE IS SO GUDD IN MY EARRASRASDRASRSRFDAESDE
Needless to say, I may check out Xiu Xiu's other albums soon...
Dear god, the reviews and reception for this thing are, to put it lightly, abundant and split beyond belief. I almost wanted to avoid listening, lest I get swamped in the muck of conversation floating around, but fuck it, what's one opinion anyway?
Now, while I can't speak for SOPHIE and what/wasn't intentional with this album and give a creative breakdown on every choice made here track to track, I'm just gonna say that this album isn't for me and really leave it ... read more
While I did find the more ambient deep cuts on the record spacious and additive to the experience, the explosiveness found within the main crop of songs is where the majority of my interest lies, as the first and last few sections of the record feel boundlessly unabashed and wonderful. I’m definitely gonna give this more listens, simply based on how simultaneously ear-catching and boundary breaking the material feels on here. And I'm gonna go blind into the new record, which ... read more
serj does some weird voice stuff over solid metal instrumentals, occasionally gets a bit too goofy for my taste but hey thats the tankian way i suppose
Every passing day, I get more and more worried for By Storm.
So like, take EVERY good part of his debut solo album (to be honest there wasn't much there, mainly the singles and like a song or two), and remove them. And after this purging of good ideas, all you're left with is a 14 minute glop of cloud rap nonstarters that features very little creativity and lacks the intrigue of every previously released project under RiTchie's collective umbrella. Like is it just me, or does ... read more
