The album equivalent of a bright bouquet of flowers. I’m almost certain the “album equivalent of” schtick is pretty trite and (especially in my older reviews) too widely used to mean much of anything these days, but a lively plant that blooms into something beautiful seems apt for a prog project this unabashedly pretty.
Sidenote, I CERTAINLY didn't know beforehand that ATCQ sampled track 5 on this album, that took me by complete surprise but I'm happy I organically ... read more
Sorry to say, I just don't get it.
Like I understand the appeal, the recording of this performance sounds so incredibly mismanaged and fucking zonked out that it *supposedly* enhances the atmosphere, and deploys this chaotic layer of shrapnel into my eardrums during the peaks of intensity. And it makes sense that something like this has generated such a cult appeal, I mean isn't it the most 90s thing ever to pass off some old jam band recording from '77 as an avant noise-psych ... read more

"Games Without Frontiers" is one of my favorite songs ever made, so it's no surprise that I came away from "Melt" with plenty of other favorites and a sense of absolute wonder once it was all said and done. Every song here feels inventive and boundary pushing in the realm of early art rock, and shines as an example of what the genre's future will hold in terms of boundary pushing experimentation. But even with that daringness to create ... read more
A bit forgettable when looking at the rest of Gabriel's legendary catalog, but it still has its moments.
jid 0 for 2 this year damn
this album sound bad. like, REALLY BAD. Each song sounds like someone typed in "pop singer isolated vocals" and placed them on "charli xcx type beats", and the result is HORRID. Definitely stay away, this could definitely kill a victorian child, more so cuz its ass rather than anything else
Edit: (82->71->65) well fuck
It's official, ladies and gentlemen across the globe, he cooked. That's right, YOU heard me. He FUCKING cooked. Like not just a proper sear of a sirloin steak, or a microscopic minced reheat of mystery meat, but rather a bountiful broil of boundless beauty encased in a blessed embrace of brevity. He's straight up making gold out of the instruments and components he uses. GET IT? THAT'S WHY HE'S CALLED THE ALCHEMIST!!! HE SPINS RECORDS ... read more

Glad I finally got around to this, since Cable Temple sits as one of my favorite albums ever made, and I was always curious about their first release and how it holds up in comparison. This 2010 self-titled project from OYS isn't that far behind, and I can understand why one would prefer this over their eclectic 2020 release, but with that said, this record certainly bangs harder than anything I've heard from the group up to this point. Cable Temple went for more of a folky direction ... read more

Well, well, well, this was surely unexpected!
Consider my absolute shock when I decide to deep dive on the website albumoftheyear.org for a nice… movie (just kidding, obviously an album ya dingus!!!) to listen to during the wee hours of the night. (Sorry for the apprehensive name calling, you’re probably great)
Anyhoo, I realize that looking through the aoty tagging system may be a fate worse than the charcoal-produced pillars of fire that line gehenna’s obeliskine walls, ... read more
A tad overindulgent at times, but really fun all the same. Joba pulls off this fantastic sense of serenity and wistfulness on his solo debut "Russell Boring", I'm really excited by his direction post-Brockhampton and this record culminates his efforts since to define a sound all his own. It's pretty brisk, meaning it doesn't come close to overstaying its welcome, yet it nearly comes off as a bit short for the scale conveyed during this album's highest points. ... read more
This album screams "you know, I'm not a fan of that MODERN RAP CRAP, but this one's alright"
A bit simple at times, but ultimately effective. I'm honestly shocked at how under-the-radar this release is, I didn't even know there were singles before listening but damn, this shines a fine beacon during a friday of purely forgettable releases. You've got features from Eminem, Rick Ross, Nas, Snoop, and a bunch of others that fit really well and bring their A-game ... read more
Yeah, this project was an absolute mess of overblown slop. I'm so removed from context in terms of now knowing who Chonny is, the only reason I listened to this was pure curiosity about what exactly the fuck this was. The weird bad cover art, low user score, and pretentious title definitely drew me in, and holy shit was I not disappointed. That said, there are two RIDICULOUSLY well-done reviews (written by RealZzzz and Arcilis) that explain each and every moment in meticulous detail, and ... read more
This was boring and way too short, you know it's bad when a 10 minute ep feels like 20. There were moments where I almost enjoyed it, like the second song "Sat Here With You" wasn't the worst thing in the world, it had me hooked for a minute there. But the vocals just didn't do anything for me across the three songs, and the production was anywhere from shaky to meh. Overall this thing just came and went leaving very little impact unfortunately.
