[Album of the Day Challenge: Day 28]
This album is actually reeeeaaaalllly good. I like the raw playfulness of the production here, from the synths that kinda remind me of the Terraria OST to the cool bass grooves sprinkled throughout the project. Tracks like the title track and "Sparkle" are my favorites on here as they display this beautiful, lo-fi atmosphere that I really vibe with. There were a couple moments where the instruments weren't perfectly quantized and the high-pitched ... read more

I love a lot of experimental music, but "Aeonian Aberration" seems to not have a good understanding, let alone a good idea as to what makes musical experimentation fly. There are so many moments where it comes off as overbearingly pretentious, with a bunch of random, not very pleasing sounds on some tracks... and then there's "Do You Really Wanna Keep Going Through This? >>" which is 10 minutes of silence. I'm not kidding. There ... read more

These are actually pretty sweet, laid back downtempo jams. I found the synth work and drums consistently great and there are some damn good highlights here that are punchy, catchy and atmospheric like "Heartbeat", the title track and "Blue Skies". Some of the track list ranges from good to just fine, though, and they mostly kind of blend into each other during its 40-minute runtime. I think I would've loved this record more if a few of ... read more
[Album of the Day Challenge: LEVEL 23]
For a project produced using built-in Medly presets, this doesn’t sound half bad. I think it does get repetitious, it sounds cheap and there are some undercooked ideas, but it works as a soundtrack to a retro-style 2-D platformer game.

[Album of the Day Challenge: Day 22]
First of all, this album artwork is amazing! Secondly, this is a really cool dark ambient project. I really like the super industrial textures here, and the looping synthesizers in tandem with some of the more subtle noise elements really help sell the atmosphere. It can be a little repetitive, the concept isn't fleshed-out enough and "Last Final Feature" could've used some better transitioning, but I still found this to be a relaxing and ... read more

"The Champ" surely is, well, a champ! There's just so much about this project that I absolutely adore! I love the sampling, not a single sample feels misused, While they aren't used in the most original of ways, they bring a lot of color to each and every track and the additional instrumentation is so damn groovy! I think the distorted mixing really works in giving the plunderphonics sound this raw flavor that I really fuck with. My favorite of ... read more

There are albums that sound creepy, albums that keep me at the edge of my seat from how frightening, goosebump-inducing and spine-chilling they are... and then there's Agv's "Crawl". It's an album that attempts to sound eerie with its abstract, slow-motion soundscapes, but it ends up falling flat on its face due to how surface-level it all is. Samples of people crying and screaming don't automatically make your atmosphere unnerving, it just sounds ... read more
I don't think it's even surprising anymore for a Run the Jewels album to be high-quality. Killer Mike and EL-P have been doing this with every single release, but I think their fourth album is their greatest accomplishment yet! Clocking in at 11 tracks and 39 minutes, this is easily their tightest record yet. Everything about this record just punches you in the face until that final hit on the last track (which I'll get to later)! Jamie and Mike's chemistry is as rock-solid as ever, delivering ... read more
Meow the Jewels' second snuggle meow meow the meow-meow meow meow meow meow on their first snuggle (meow meow meow purr) into a fluffier and more furfluffing package! Meow-C and Killer Kat meow purr meow as a meow, and their snuggle-your-face meows and purr meow, meow with the purrrr meow meow being meowed, meow meow with the purr meow meow meow. Meow this meow with some purr-ass meows and great snuggle value and meow meow meow pawssibly one of my fluffiest meow-hop snuggles of the 2010's!

Run the Jewels' second album expands upon the hip-hop sound that was showcased on their first album (which was also fantastic) into a punchier and more fulfilling package! El-P and Killer Mike have amazing chemistry as a duo, and their in-your-face deliveries and great lyrics, along with the powerful subject matter being presented, go along with the outstanding production extremely well! Top this off with some killer-ass features and great replay value and you have what's possibly one of my ... read more

I think "Are You Sick of Being Unlucky?" is a great project with slick sound design and incredible production! It has a rather repetitive start with "Turmoil, Majula", but mostly everything else gets increasingly more varied. It reminds me a lot of Flying Lotus with it's glitchy, colorful soundscapes and atmosphere (so I guess this review is a little bit biased from me being a FlyLo fan). Overall, Vale-Smith has put out one of my ... read more

I don't really have much to say. Here we have a rather generic meme rap album with maybe a few funny lines and some nice production. However, that fizzles out after a while and it's covered-up by some questionable lyrics (times where he just says random shit to create a "bar") and repetitive formulas.

It's... well... I forget who's fault it is that I listened to *"Goat" by The Jesus Lizard* but it was probably me (full details below the review).
Ah, noise rock. What did I ever do to deserve your love? "Goat" is regarded as a classic in the genre and... I'm in awe right now! On top of David Yow's incomprehensible vocals and nihilistic lyrics, there's also the riffs. THE GODDAMN RIIFFFFFS!!! These RIFFFFFS sound like they're just creeping upon your eardrums and everything ... read more
UPDATE (OG Score: 7.2): WOW This grew on me! The mixing is still an issue, but it's not nearly as prominent as the first couple of listens. For me, I think the best time to listen to this is during the evening because it really clicked with me!

"The Ordinary" is a very solid, and at times beautiful, project from RockGati. I love how the psychedelic/shoegaze elements mesh with how lo-fi the overall production is and this is probably one of the ... read more
I don't think "You'd Think So But You'd Be Wrong" has the same memorability or replayability as his other two EPs, or even "It's a Whimsical Afterlife", but it's still a great EP that further progresses Avenade's lo-fi noise rock sound. It starts off pretty traditionally with "Unpredictable" and "Memories" being great indie-punk jams, As it goes on, however, it gets heavier, angrier, noisy and overwhelming as fuck and it's a great sign for what's to come ... read more

"Not Only Does It Suck, but It Also Isn't Real" definitely does not suck and it also is totally real! (*cricket noises*)
This is really more of a single more than it is an EP but, whatever you label it as, it's a top-notch release that cools things down a bit while also building that lo-fi punk edge that Avenade set on "Here's to the Prejudice"! "Inside Voices" is a great power pop track with a catchy guitar hook, great lyrics ... read more
"Here's to the Prejudice" shows a huge amount of potential for Avenade! The rough, fuzzy lo-fi production is addicting, the drums and punk chord progressions are super punchy and the vocals and most of the lyrics are very well-delivered. The last two tracks, "Wilkerson" and "Hatred", are the biggest highlights for me as they carry the best progressions, lyrics and emotion of the EP (not that the other tracks weren't great in that department either). While there are ... read more
[Album of the Day Challenge: Day 13]
Even with the comedic aspect in mind, it's still terrible. It's a sloppy, lazy, effortless (I know it's redundant but the same goes for this comp) mashup release that fails to even make a good joke, ends up feeling dated even back in 2017 and feels more bloated than it should. I know that The Dankest Meme has expressed how bad this release is, but putting this on the challenge just to get the score down (if it even mattered anyway) is just not how this ... read more

"Eat, Sleep, Flex, Repeat" is, hands-down, the best effort I've seen from the Flex label to date, but that still doesn't mean it's great in my eyes. There are quite a few songs I legitimately enjoyed on this record like "Eat, Sleep, Flex, Repeat", "All That" and "Universal Flex". All of these are bangers with some fun moments and decent production. There are some glaring flaws, however, with a lot of jokes not quite ... read more
