Fuck off with your bad reviews, this is possibly my favourite Doors record. It OOZES character- the brass is triumphant, the title track is ridiculous fun and you’re all wrong.
Like sure, I get that digging up old Jim poems and releasing this posthumously can be interpreted in different ways. But like independently of any of that, say Jim as alive and gave his creative backing to this project- it sounds great and I love listening to it.
I was affronted and a little bit scared the first time I heard this, but once I learnt to relax around it I can see that it is in fact brilliant. Points deducted for alienating you from everyone at the party.
Favourite Zappa body of work. Funny, inventive (who’d have thought), strange and pioneering for 1966 surely.
Got some great tracks, but I’m never usually in the mood to listen to the whole thing if I’m being totally honest.
Honestly think this is a top tier stones album. Not as good as exile and sticky fingers but way better than its only rock and roll.
FUCKING STRANGE. Flits from brilliant and stuck in my god damn head to borderline annoying. A lot of the demo versions of songs from this album I return to time and time again for when I’m not wanting something quite as grandiose.
There is very little that fills me with more joy in life than the little HUP! noise in Colleen.
