Pretty album. Wordlessly is one of the most beautiful songs of the year
I think this is the worst National album to date. Feels disjointed and under-produced and the extra vocals are quite distracting
No it's not Emotion, but that was maybe the best pop record of the decade. This album is cohesive and fun, but kinda dips a little in the middle. First half is very strong. Favorites: Julien, Want You in My Room, Everything He Needs, Too Much
Finally listened to this one.... I don't get it
I thought this was likely getting worse reviews because of the Mitski "controversy," but this is really not that good. A few good moments, but other parts are un-listenable
Was really excited for Bondy's return, but geez this sounds like it was recorded in some highschooler's bedroom.
Far from the masterpiece of their last record but also far from the disaster I anticipated. While the absence of Rostam is noticeable and most of the songs are are sonically less ambitious than the previous VW records, this album clicks and is mostly a fun listen. Particularly the first half
Will probably fly under the radar with some of the other releases today, but definitely worth a listen
A mix of some of the prettiest and blandest songs in recent folk memory. Overall, it's still pretty good
Seem to be jealous of other folksy/indie bands that have gotten popular in recent years (e.g. Portugal the Man). What a colossal disappointment.
If you're shouting Oh My God every other song, it's more than just a theme. It's a crutch
Certainly better than his last few, but still too "pretty". I want that raspy edge that made his first two records so unique
Damien's (what feels like) 852nd album is his most cohesive in years
I kinda thought the first few songs were trash but it grew on me as it went along. Boys in the Better Land is a banger
