Yeah not reviewing. I'm not gonna give this a bad rating because it's not in line with albums that just aren't well produced. As a Jew and a former fan, it's immensely disheartening

Some of their best songs in a while but why is this so long? Too much bloat

I’ve never been a huge fan and this one won’t push me over the top. But there are some really cool songs (love I know) in between the bloat

My dog is named after Carly so I may be biased.

But let’s be real. There has been no pop artist as prolific and consistent as her in the last decade. And this is her best since Emotion. While it’s unfair to call this experimental, it’s certainly less conventional and there are some riskier songs here. They mostly pay off. It’s a great pop album

I guess I’m in the minority here. Production just feels so watered down to me

Some interesting moments but doesn’t quite reach the highs of mutable set

As someone who only knew Hopelessness this album was not what I expected. But the smooth, gentle instrumentation and vocals work in concert so well. Great record

I hate that I didn’t hate this

Never been a big fan but this feels like her worst to date? Vocals are pretty grating for me

I do think the last few songs are a bit meh but overall this far exceeded my expectations from what I’m worried this could’ve been. So damn pretty

Bleh. How the mighty have fallen :(

She's always been somewhat hit or miss for me and I'll throw this one in the miss category. I never thought her voice was amazing, but interesting instrumentals have saved her in the past. Don't feel that's the case here, sadly

Seriously, if you put this on and told me it was Sufjan I'd believe you

A tad boring

Although the back half drags a bit, there's a really beautiful richness to the instrumentation here. Don't sleep on this one!

A little disappointing and inconsistent

Hopefully the second best folk album by a Joanna this year.

But no I really love this. I get why the vocals aren't for everyone. Just like Newsom. But to be honest I hear just as much Bob Dylan here as I do the Milk Eyed Mender. Lyrically it's a masterclass in self-loathing and self-deprecation. Musically it's unique and familiar, topped off by the vocals that certainly aren't going to be universally loved. But shit it works for me.
