Yeah, it's pretty 80s
So, this is my first real introduction to Billy Idol, I did know he existed and everything, just well, I never checked him out. After getting obsessed with the title track from this album, I knew I had to check this record out.
And yeah, it's pretty decent I guess. I mean, I loved the first half of this album, even when I think the title track overshadows quite literally everything, I still enjoyed some other songs quite a bit. "Eyes Without a Face" for ... read more
Brief Review: Banger of a 80 pop rock album. Billy knows how to command a mic and bring the heat on many of these songs, and DAMN are the highlights some of the best of its time! Some of the later tracks don’t really hold up as well as they should, and I think the ending track is kinda a lame way to end things off for the album. But still, great ass album!
Best Tracks: Rebel Yell, Daytime Drama, Eyes Without a Face, Blue Highway, Flesh for Fantasy, Crank Call, (Do Not) Stand In the ... read more
Unforgotten pop rock classics with"Eyes Without a Face", "Flesh for Fantasy", "Catch My Fall" and the title song "Rebel Yell" side by side with some more pretty good pop rock songs such as "Blue Highway", therefore probably the best solo album of William Michael Albert Broad aka Billy Idol.
New wave/pop rock with a tint of punk rock edgyness? Only Billy Idol with his second album "Rebel Yell". It's yes a very commercial 80s album, that appealed to MTV and had huge singles like "Rebel Yell", "Eyes Without A Face" and "Flesh For Fantasy".
I really love the mix of punk rock and synth-pop/new wave sound, plus Billy's voice is great, like genuinely great. He sings with lots of energy and offers great vocal performances throughout the album. The ... read more
this is the single most 80's sounding album ever with the most definitive 80's song ever "eyes without a face" with the most 80's album cover oat
loved every second of it :)
This album is pure fire.
Rebel Yell is the culmination of Billy Idol's character and the perfect match between him and Steve Stevens. The album is loaded with wonderful songs, a dizzying album, that never stops until the end with "The Dead Next Door", a great closing for an album.
The album energetically kicks off where it starts at 100 and holds up there for nearly 40 minutes that it lasts. It is a round work and far superior to his debut. It is the best album of his entire ... read more
With his second effort and his rocker image in full swing, Billy Idol managed to come out swinging even harder than ever before with 'Rebel Yell', a gorgeously consistent album with some of his best material to date packaged in one delightful 38 minute set of tracks. Idol had his image down completely by this point in his career - and it shows.
The album's title track is completely infectious, one of the absolute staple pieces in the new wave/rock scene of the early-mid 80s ... read more
Rebel Yell isn't my favorite album from the 80s by any stretch, but oh boy does it embody it. The crooning, the cheesy lyrics, and the gaudy synths of the production are all partially responsible, but you know what? I don't care, it's awesome. I love how dated this project sounds. So much about it's vibe and atmosphere just makes you feel like you're in a movie, and it's glorious. Sure, it can dip into forgettable at points, especially in the back end, but the hits ... read more
A bit frontloaded but overall a great 80s pop album that honestly deserves more praise/classic status.
I believe that Billy the idol makes the least scary, rebel yell I've ever heard, despite the huge support of the industry.
The opener and Eyes Without Face are truly some of the best New Wave/80s Pop tracks ever conceived, so it’s unfortunate that the bulk of the remainder here is such bog-standard synth-soaked pop
this album is what i imagine the 1980s sounded like. its dark new wave synth edges still sound amazing even 40 years on its a somewhat timeless record which also acts a time capsule.
his outfit screams "ahhh fuck the government #freeobama" but he makes some great music ngl, eyes without a face best track obv for obvious reasons so yeah. rebel yell is great there too, a lot of lost love for mr idol and i kinda feel bad for him. 8/10
Honestly this is actually one of my favourite rock albums before the 2000s.
This is amazing.
Try it out.
Best song: Eyes Without a Face: 100/100
Worst song: Crank Call: 79/100
Rebel Yell has a really strong collection of pop rock and synth bangers. The title track and Eyes Without a Face are definitely the highlights here, although Flesh for Fantasy was really good as well. The second half isn't as strong as the first, but even the weakest songs are still decent. Billy Idol has really great energy as a vocalist, and the whole album just has a nice pace and energy to it.
Building off the pop rock style he dived into on his solo debut, Idol retains the punk edge from Gen X and makes a more grand statement in 80s pop rock with Rebel Yell. Containing his most iconic songs, the album also flows nicely and is a satisfying listen.
‘To clarify first this album is a bit different than what I typically like, hence the low score, it could be great and I’m just talking out my arse’
After Gen X, Billy Idol sure did make music, while Rebel yell being straight heat brings the album up like 20 points, the rest fail to stand out, while eyes without a face is somewhat catchy it feels like it has 3 verses and 60 choruses. As stated previously the rest struggle to stand out. Safe to say I prefer Gen X
This album just runs so fast with pure 80's and guitar awesomeness. It's great song after great song, and every one of them is so fun. Not to mention, Steve Stevens riffs are actually so cool! When the guitar really kicks in on "Eyes Without a Face" it is face melting even in your headphones. The vibe this album gives off is if Billy Idol ascended to the fucking sky and dropped this album like an anvil on Earth and a shockwave hit the entire planet. It's dancable, stylistically punk ... read more
Great album, not a single bad track but some songs are very noticeably better than others, overall though this album is good.
admittedly, i only came here for Eyes Without a Face but the rest of the album is pretty solid
best song: Eyes Without a Face
Admittedly, my score stems from the pure listening enjoyment I experience with every listen. That is, unless I'm in a bad mood. But, isn't that what SSRIs are about, bruhs? Pete, if you're reading this, please understand that your asocial personality is why the psychs prescribed Paroxetine and not because you think you're the most intelligent guy in the room. [laughs] Let's face it, at the time of release, New Wave had a bevy of commercially appealing and pop-friendly ... read more
