I wouldn’t say this is the best rap project of the year. Not only because it’s not in the level of a “BLUE LIPS,” but also because it’s a weird mash between alternative R&B, chill neo-soul, glitch pop, and experimental R&B… and I like it? Despite being a mixtape, it has a better album structure than many real studio albums and, despite falling off in the second part, still incredibly enjoyable.
Best Song: TEXAS BLUE

Wow. What an incredible album. Aquemini’s importance in Hip-Hop cannot be understated. The very sensical fact that this was such an outcast of an album back when it was released yet, ironically, became one of the most respected albums of all time gives you all the more reason to love it. Not only that, there is close to 0 flaws in the entire album and the concept of every song keeps you hooked throughout the album. On top of all the previous things mentioned, the song ... read more
Kendrick Lamar managed to do an incredible work of art with “To Pimp a Butterfly.” He managed to make club bangers like “King Kunta” and “Alright” that stand with the albums concept and present some deep ideas. It is one of, if not the, best written rap album of all time. Not only that, the production on this album is something else, with songs from “Wesley’s Theory” and “i” bringing the deep meanings that Lamar uses while having ... read more
This is an incredible R&B cut from Anderson.Paak, one of the greatest voices in the rap space. A great tracklist to have in the background while doing something as well as a soothing album for driving, this tracklist covers everything.
Best Song: FromHere
Worst Song: EvnMore (or ThankU if it counts)
The emotional concept that Vince follows in this album is great. He has a lot of good tracks, but Black&Blue and Radio are the true standouts, two perfect songs.
Best Song: Black&Blue
Worst Song: Why Won’t The Sun Come Out?
I don’t get why people hate this so much. J. Cole put up a great tracklist here. I love most of the tracks and can’t stop listening to Huntin’ Wabbitz and Trae the Truth in Ibiza, truly incredible tracks. Top 5 of the year for rap so far. If these are throwaways from “The Fall-Off” as I suspect, then I can’t wait for Cole’s last album!
Best Song: Trae the Truth in Ibiza
Worst Song: Fever
Although the best of 2023, I feel that shows more about the year than this LP. As a Peggy super fan, this is probably his worst work since “Black Ben Carson”. I feel despite the tracks production and Danny’s lyrics being pretty good, this was just a forgettable listen. Still good however.
Best Song: Steppa Pig
Worst Song: Run the Jewels
Although 21’s flows do get boring, the production on this album is immaculate. Holy, what an incredible beat selection. I love it, definitely top 5 of the year for rap so far and probably the best in trap.
Best Song: dark days
Worst Song: pop ur shit
Despite everyone loving this album, I don’t think it’s as incredible as everyone says. In my opinion, when you only have 7 songs, you can’t have duds like Fire and Freeee and still be considered one of the best of the year. However, it is still great, just a little overrated.
Best Song: Reborn
Worst Song: Freeee
A great debut album from Baby Keem, with standout tracks like “trademark usa” and “family ties” showing that Keem has one of the best modern flows and a track like “issues” showing that Keem also has that lyrical prowess from his mentor, Kendrick Lamar.
Best Song: scars
Worst Song: gorgeous
A pretty terrible tracklist, and definitely way too long. Out of the 25 songs, I took out 4 and replayed often only 2.
Best Song: Red Leather
Worst Song: Luv Bad Bitches
A pretty good trap album with the unforgettable “Like That” moment as well as other great tracks like the introductory song “We Don’t Trust You” and “Cinderella.” Possibly Future’s best album, in contention for that spot with “DS2.”
Best Song: We Don’t Trust You
Worst Song: Magic Don Juan
Kendrick Lamar’s debut studio album “Section.80” talks about the Hiiipower movement, especially with the intro and outro songs. This track list is incredible, and I even consider “No Make-Up” pretty good. This is both a great lyrical showcase as well as a great concept album and an enjoyable background musical piece.
Best Song: Hiiipower
Worst Song: Tammy’s Song
This new Q album is incredibly good. The consistency and lyricism displaced is insane. Thank god 4 me is a really good song that combines public appeal with quality. Blueslides is a beautiful homage to his friend who’s passed, Mac Miller. Foux and Ohio are other of my personal favorites, along with a short but incredibly seeet Smile.
Best Song: Blueslides
Worst Song: Nunu
I don’t understand why critics seem to not enjoy this album. One of the best trap and psychedelic LPs with unforgettable features and production. On top of that, tracks like “90210” show Travis’ lyrical prowess.
Best Song: 90210
Worst Song: Flying High
“IGOR” is Tyler’s best work, with its Neo-Soul and Experimental Pop combination. Every song except “WHAT’S GOOD” I love, especially “THANK YOU.” Overall, Tyler made the perfect Neo-Soul and Experimental Pop combination album?
Best Song: THANK YOU
Worst Song: WHAT’S GOOD
This is an incredible album. Probably the greatest trap album created with Metro’s tight production combined with Offset and 21’s perfect connection. Not only that, since it’s so short, it is incredibly replay able.
Best Song: Run Up The Racks
Worst Song: Mad Stalkers
What an incredible project. Having Cole’s incredible lyricism and 12 beautiful songs, despite not having his best concept, this is probably J. Cole’s best executed project and his most replay able. However, I’d still give the edge to “4 Your Eyez Only” as an overall LP.
Best Song: h u n g e r . o n . h i l l s i d e
Worst Song: a m a r i
This album is an unique experience that you cannot find anywhere else. This is Denzel’s best work, with his best songs like “Walkin,” “X-Wing,” “Zatoichi,” and “Melt Session #1.”
Best Song: Walkin
Worst Song: Worst Comes to Worst
