As far as mainstream releases go, GUTS is one of the best I’ve heard in a long, long while… and I seriously didn’t expect it. Olivia’s debut, SOUR, was an album I was never enthusiastic about. Some impressive performances from front to back, but nothing else memorable to back them up. The best tracks are the ones produced by Peggy. An inoffensive album with lots of substance, but it just doesn't click together for me. At least not yet.
This type of genre fusion between shoegaze and breakcore is one that I can't commend enough. Everything works together so well, this production is really a marvel. And such a pretty, enchanting soundscape! Genuinely, some of the most mesmerising work you'll hear this year. Straight out of something magic.
Such fantastic melodies and harmonies! I just love the late '60s singer/songwriter throwback, not an aesthetic you get too much of now. Just more proof of how timeless that style of music really is. The D'Addario brothers have really outdone themselves. The album sounds really polished, and there isn't a single weak track. Great stuff!
One of the year's most creative abstract-hip-hop releases. There are a lot of quality tracks to take away from here, with some fantastic beats and production to back them up. It's a 30-minute listen that's well worth the time, I'm glad I gave it a listen. I can see this growing on me more.
This album paints such a vivid picture of this computerised dystopia and one's desire to heal... it's genuinely really touching. It also boasts some of the year's most impressive songwriting. Everything has been designed in such an illustrative and distinct manner. From beginning to end, you are totally immersed in the tragic and surreal world of softscars.
