Similarly to the group's debut, I feel like american dream has the general parts of what makes an LCD album great, but nothing really comes to one flourishing concept. Like it's all just fine and is serviceably good, but with every good moment that the album offers I'm reminded of a better song that the band has, which definitely shouldn't be my reaction.
There's literally nothing on this that could justify me returning in favour of Sound of Silver or This Is Happening. Still it has its ... read more
To me, this is one of those albums that you wish you had listened to sooner, if not to at least satisfy that one person in your life who can't stop banging on about it.
There's five infectiously groovy and demented high energy bangers kicking off an electric experience, but then three slower paced ones kind of sour the built up mood. It annoys me how so many artists feel the need to slow an album's pace down at the end when all I want is for the energy to keep pulsing throughout (but it also ... read more
This is my first Unplugged album, and it's a great one to start with. Like with Jar of Flies, it's incredible to see how such a heavy band like Alice in Chains can tone things down and find beauty in simplicity. Apart from some drawn out duds at the end, the whole track list is powerful and well crafted, but I cannot believe they didn't play I Stay Away. I know there's at least a dozen songs which you could say that for, but I could kill to hear an unplugged version of that song. This also ... read more
This is like the r/BatmanArkham of hip hop.
But genuinely, the lengths that sampling can go to is terrifying, because imagine remaking one of the best 2010's conscious hip hop albums with cat sounds and still having it sound fantastic. Mr Meow and the Big Mittens soon hopefully.
Favourite Song: Meowrly
Best: Meowpurdy, Oh My Darling Don't Meow, Close Your Eyes and Meow To Fluff, All Meow Life, Paw Due Respect,

Unhinged and unpredictable Japanese madness.

Worst: 根性無しあたし、あほぼけかす
'Hide and Seek' daughter or '715 - CRΣΣKS' son?
Speak for Yourself kind of has it all when it comes to electro-pop, from catchy accessible bangers to glitchy stranger mixes that capture the ear uniquely. This album to most will just be the thing that encases the now legendary 'Hide and Seek', through Lonely Island or Derulo associations, but to call it just that is an ultimate disservice, as this is for sure one of the more underappreciated 2000's pop albums that I've listened to. ... read more
A very quirky but unfocused art pop album.
Favourite Song: Birth In Reverse
Best: Rattlesnake, Prince Johnny, Digital Witness, Psychopath,
Worst: Bring Me Your Loves
Better Lovers make 15 minutes of metalcore madness, with my only complaint being that it's just an EP. I need more pseudo Dillinger in my ear holes please Greg Puciato.
Favourite Song: Sacrificial Participant
Best: 30 Under 13, God Made Me An Animal
Worst: Become So Small
Although a tad more scattered than fishmonger, Wallsocket still bounces around the chaotic hyper pop soundscapes that April is known for by now. Though I enjoyed this album less than her debut, there's much more depth to this album lyrically, with some great storytelling and some real gut wrenching stuff inside when you start to dig a bit deeper.
Favourite Song: Old money bitch
Best: Locals, Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, You don't even know who I am, Johnny johnny johnny, Geez louise, Uncanny long ... read more
I made a severe and continuous lapse in my judgement, and I don’t expect to be forgiven.
Okay, so in the week of this album's release, I listened once and rated Jennifer B a very low score, and also wrote the unfunniest review on this entire website. It's taken me over a year to revisit the record and to see that I was abhorrently wrong about this album. Usually when I dislike an album, I'll only listen once if I truly know that I'll hate listening again, or twice to double check that my ... read more
Sign O' the Times doesn't trade its musicality for political themes in the case of many conscious albums. Instead, Prince spends a double album diving into intense grooves, funky bangers and soulful love songs. The score that I gave honestly is too low, and it's only that way because I had to endure the Spotify version of this album.
If you don't know, the mixing on streaming editions of this album are utterly horrendous and it's probably the worst mixing on an album that I've ever heard. The ... read more
Call it a hunch, but I think there's a certain level of standom going on with the reception of softscars, because I guarantee you if any other pop artist did a song like cyber meat then they would be shat on entirely, but because yeule has critical weight behind them, they get let off the hook for things like slightly cringe lyricism and underwhelming, slightly generic rock influenced cuts. I enjoy the inspirations and many areas that the production dives into, but I can't justify how the ... read more
Although a better metal album than Rat's Nest in my opinion, it has a tendency to drag-on (pun intended). Still a bag of gizzy fun though paired with one of my favourite album covers of the year.
I'm also not going to lie, I'm three albums into their discography and I have no clue where to go next. It's like a labyrinth of Aussie rock pandemonium with three billion albums to choose from.
Favourite Song: Motor Spirit
Best: Supercell, Witchcraft, Gila Monster, Flamethrower
Worst: Converge
The Woods carves its own unrelenting path through a lovingly flowing track list with right in your face lyrics and production. A series of really cool ways to twist otherwise sterile and formulaic rock sounds.
Favourite Song: Entertain
Best: The Fox, Wilderness, What's Mine Is Yours, Jumpers, Rollercoaster, Steep Air, Let's Call It Love, Night Light
Worst: Modern Girl
Thank you to @SnowyFighter for the plug.
This album is a beaming indie rock cut that doesn't overstay its welcome, providing a few really solid tracks showcasing the fun comfort behind a modern indie band. I really liked how bright everything felt, from both of the vocalists' work to the lovely production, enlarged greatly by the odd brass additions. I will say however that some of the songs tended to blend together. The songs that distinctly stand on their own were the ones with clear ... read more
A great live album that showcases the sheer unique beauty behind one Postal Service, complete with great Gibbardian vocals and a lush electronic laced atmosphere. Clearly it's just further proof that this band needs to make another damn album.
Favourite Song: Brand New Colony

Black Metal is full of potentially brilliant ideas, but most of them lead to nowhere. Eclecticism is both the album's strength and weakness, showing off an impressive array of enticing sounds, but then cutting them short or profusely prolonging them, leading to a hugely imbalanced runtime. Blunt is an interesting vocalist, and his production is truly fascinating and unique in many ways, but he seems to shun both in favour of trying his best to defy a normal album structure. Doing this isn't ... read more
Some soothing jazz.

Worst: Sunset
A promising start, but an overall dreary experience.
Favourite Song: Mistaken for Strangers
Best: Fake Empire, Brainy, Racing Like a Pro

Silent Shout is a challenging listen, but one that pays off when all of its deranged, clashing elements come together after a few run throughs.
Favourite Song: We Share Our Mothers' Health
Best: Silent Shout, Neverland, The Captain, Na Na Na, Marble House, Like a Pen, One Hit
Worst: Still Light
