Björk 2/?

I kinda forgot I wanted to revisit her so I’m DOING IT NOW !! I love Björk and have always really loved her work. The only two albums of hers I haven’t listened to (minus the new one) have been these two early albums. I even listened to KUKL and the Sugarcubes (and loved both). This album is probably her worst. It’s good that her worst is still solid, but besides from her just showing off her insane vocal prowess and capabilities, it’s a really ... read more

Bob Dylan 12/?

It’s a pretty soundtrack album… but tbh… I’m not a big soundtrack guy at all. I’m not saying all are bad, but they just mainly aren’t my thing. This falls into that. While there isn’t anything I hated, it could come off as kind of toothless and repetitive.

I think some people are a bit too harsh on this. This is like REALLLLLY amateur soundcloud rap, so I think judging it that harshly and on studio pretenses is unfair. Overall, it was indeed a really messy listen and ultimately it was not a great project.

I think the basics of sound engineering and mixing could have been explored more, mostly with the microphone which is often left unattended and creates a type of static which manages to overpower the instrumental. The recordings would have been ... read more

Foo Fighters - But Here We Are
78

I wasn't really in love with it. The production for the most part was REALLY brutal, and the hi-ends often clipped out with a muddy ass vocal mix on Dave Grohl. Just a very compressed album in general. I respect the noisier direction they went in on alot of these tracks and it sounds like such a "real" album. I can feel the pain in each of the songs, even if their structures mostly conform to convention. A great showing from the Foo Fighters for sure, and it deserves all the hype. ... read more

Avenged Sevenfold - Life Is But a Dream...

I haven’t heard anything as bad as this in a long time. This album’s very existence is an insult to music. I am offended (I’m playing it up a bit dw) and I am not even an A7X fan. If I waited for this album six years and THIS is what I got, I would have seriously considered my life choices. Some might say this is avant-garde or experimental, but tbh, this is just shit. The lowest denominator of shit. It’s shit that likes to parade itself as real different and innovative ... read more

DaBaby - CALL DA FIREMAN

If I’m not mistaken, this is the largest point differential I’ve ever given. Currently, this EP stands at a 13/100. Yes, a literal low 1/10. My score is FUCKING insane I know. I first discovered the song “SHAKE SUMN” on tiktok (a sentence I never uttered in my life before but hear me out) and I was shocked because it sounded like… shit? So I checked the EP out and yeah wow it sounded like hot ass. Then, why the score? Because as a piece of pop rap this is ... read more

Grateful Dead - Veneta, OR 8/27/72: The Complete Sunshine Daydream Concert
81

I was never really a Deadhead because they have SUCH a cultivated following and while I get it I could never personally love them although I certainly dig their sound. However, this concert is the embodiment of the Grateful Dead experience. It sounds very refined and cleaned, Jerry has such a crystal clear voice, and overall it just sounds like a legendary set. Some cool little moments that really stuck with me was the MASTERFUL and almost ethereal guitar solo at the end of China Cat Sunflower ... read more

redveil - playing w/ fire

It’s pop rap with experimental tendencies. I found redveil to be a bright spot on Danny Brown and Peggy’s otherwise pretty shitty SCARING THE HOES, so I was excited to hear this project and it didn’t disappoint too much. I think sometimes production wise redveil has the tendency to just throw shit on a wall until it sticks but most of it did stick… good if not overkill

Fulcrum - All At Once

double it and give it to the next person

Metasphæra - Metasphæra
72

It’s a generally good technical death metal album with good screaming reminiscent of other German bands like early Atrocity or even just someone like Chuck from Death, but production can be a pretty big issue especially around the drums which can sound suffocated and shrouded.

IVE - I'VE IVE
59

I’m not at all a k-pop guy. I used to hate it but that’s when I was extremely close minded about music and just jumped on twitter trends. This album is alright. It’s actually quite decent, I found the instrumentals pretty fine, and they all have quite unique voices. With that said, is this genre still my thing? Nah. It’s okay to me, but I can understand the merit.

Daniel Caesar - Freudian
41

I’m really disappointed I didn’t like this one, but yeah, it’s not good. It’s not even just “not good”, it’s right on the border of being bad. It lacks a depth albums in this genre should have; meaning, there’s very little variety here. Yeah his voice is cool…? And? It’s not really enough to build an album off of, especially with such minimalistic and bare boned instrumentals. I listened to this because of its acclaim and also to ... read more

Sonny Rollins - Sonny Rollins, Vol. 2

This album is too mediocre for such a talented band. For me going through the top 10 albums per year, a score being this low is not great.

Bob Dylan - New Morning
67

Bob Dylan 11/?

Honestly, for an album which is so beloved by much of the fanbase, this kinda disappointed me. This was my first Dylan record I rated in the yellow, and judging by the rest of his discography, it won’t be the last. I hate that he relied so much on safe country stereotypes. It was a fairly pretty album but yeah I was disappointed.

DøøF - DØØFUS CANT READ VOL 2
46

Vocals are really overdone, to the point where the music can get fairly grating, but on its own it's an okay hip hop album. I noticed that at alot of points Døøf maybe could've fiddled a bit more with whatever mic settings he had because his recording would often compress which is just an issue with volume mostly. At the very least it's definitely listenable. The instrumentals are alright too.

Thelonious Monk - Brilliant Corners
95

Surprisingly fantastic. Obviously it would be great but I didn't expect it to be THIS damn good. One of the greatest jazz albums of all time, definitely within the top 10.

Yaeji - With A Hammer
69

I would be lying if I said I always fw’d this thing. Sometimes the glitchiness could be to its detriment, but it’s a nice little piece of avant-techno that is enamoring.

Ellie Goulding - Higher Than Heaven
28

Literally it’s so bland and boring it’s not even a fun bad listen. There’s a few mid tracks at best but this is very much just radio trash. I’m not tryna say that all modern pop is bad but this is the embodiment of half assed mainstream pop.

Bob Dylan - Self Portrait
73

Bob Dylan 10/?

For the longest time, Self Portrait was considered one of the worst albums of all time. Not just bad, so horrible it was one of the worsts… of all time. Now do I see why people thought this? Yes. This is legitimately a fairly ugly listen. As it is so bloated with songs there are some that are downright bad. I can’t recall off the top of my head but prior to this I didn’t think Dylan had any songs I disliked, so dude *really* had to try with this one, which ... read more

"in this era. Not specifically blues rock bands like Led Zeppelin, but more folk/progressive classic bands of the era. 4. The Led Zeppelin III review was extremely harsh but that’s always been an album I hated. Even when I was young. It was just always so bizarre. 5. So in conclusion, a lot of the contradictions and moments of over-hating in this review were really just a consequence of me being younger and being new to this site. I am able to articulate my opinion way better now. But I am very thankful and flattered that you would revisit each one of my reviews now. I don’t think I could I feel like it would be pretty embarrassing lol. [done]"

"3. So you aren’t aware of my series. And that’s fine. I’m not a celebrity lol. This was the first “hate listen” I did on this site. I did “hate listens” for Led Zeppelin, R.E.M, AC/DC, and am now doing one for Dream Theater. My goals with all of these series was to hopefully get over my hatred of these bands. R.E.M. i exited actually liking. AC/DC i exited still disliking but realizing that not ALL of their stuff is bad. I’m not done with Dream Theater, but they had good earlier albums, and were a better band when they were more atmospheric, sparring, and less corny. As Led Zeppelin was the first series, and also I was just younger, I was a lot more uncharitable. But my intention was always to have them grow on me. I love plenty of bands 3/"

"other white artists took that as inspiration. i still stand by what i said even if i haven’t listened to it in a while. when led zeppelin took more soul/reggae sounds, it often flat out didn’t work. also, not to play this card, but like, i am polish. i’m not saying i can’t have opinions prejudiced against whites, but questioning a band which already has a controversial modern reputation for taking from black art, i don’t think is really that. they just try to do sounds that black artist do but don’t have the soul to do so really. just feels like a mcdonald’s burger versus a burger from a local bbq diner in the deep south. big difference. 2/?"

"@LemmyDjonsson alright so a lot to un pack here. 1. kashmir is the band’s most overrated, not whole lotta love. i’ll cover why there’s that confusion. more in 5 2. regarding d’yer mak’er, my point still kind of stands. i’m not saying white people can’t make reggae, but reggae is an art form that comes from black areas. it comes from jamaica and the caribbean. led zeppelin made this in the early 1970s, before the internet was a thing. because of this, i was kinda worried how they treated the reggae sound. because it’s a lot easier to be aware of the history and to listen to smaller jamaican and jamaican diaspora artists nowadays, but at the time, let’s face it, a lot of white artists took black art, succeeded commercially, and then 1/?"

"@BikerSK such a weird comment lol. you have no clue what you’re talking about so i’m not that shocked. i have a series on aoty where i “hate listen” to discographies, but it’s all done with the concept of an open mind. the first band i listened to was led zeppelin, who i came out still not liking. the second band was r.e.m, who ironically i actually ended up liking. one of my favorite songs of all time is airportman, which is on one of their weirder later albums. the third band was ac/dc who i also ended not liking. this is NOT to just pile on music, but instead a brutally honest effort to evaluate why i might not like the band. so if you don’t know what you’re talking about don’t comment. i’m not gonna tolerate your drivel."
