The iconic tech death legends Cryptopsy’s newest album kind of just follows their skid since None So Vile. What was once one of the most forward thinking bands of their day has fallen to some cheap imitation of the deathcore scene (some good songs can’t erase it). I do really like the idea of ending a project with guitar feedback though, just a small compliment.
uhhhh okay?? this is what everyone is going crazy about?
It wasn’t bad per se. It’s a hard album to criticize because it is a pretty unique and niche sound, but it’s not really doing anything new. The direction was VERY VERY clearly influenced by Xiu Xiu; everything down to the vocals was almost straight up copied. Late Xiu Xiu with a beat. That’s this band.
The mixing is a HUGE issue too. My God, is it something most people aren’t talking about enough. The ... read more
It’s a cute album I actually really liked it. I’ve always had a soft spot for Olivia Rodrigo, having loved SOUR from when it came out and owning it on vinyl. The ballads, as like in SOUR, are GUTS’ weakest elements, but overall it’s a fantastic pop punk album.
Björk 7/? (no way this is the 5000th review of the album lol that’s crazy)
Vespertine is one of the most beautiful albums of all time. This and Homogenic were easily my two favorite albums by her. Vespertine keeps Homogenic’s ethereal nature but makes it a bit more raw and personal instead of an outright acid trip. Vespertine is beauty but it’s a very raw beauty. A good showcase is with “Cocoon”, which is so painstaking during the first listen due to her how ... read more
She does have better albums tbh. Her voice is beautiful and silky as always but it’s not as gripping as an album as her earlier work for sure.
What is so alluring about this to Pitchfork lol. From giving DSOTM a 9.3/10 (probably the greatest album of all time????) to this a 7.6/10 is wild. The BPM fluctuations were tacky, it sounded very cheaply produced, and none of the features asides one or two added anything to the track. It was safe when it didn’t need to be and safe when risks were needed.
Yeah I can’t lie, this had me completely floored. I went into this thing knowing he got popular from Tiktok and I was very shocked at what I heard with just how incredible it overall was. I think asides from some of it just feeling a bit safe, like he could’ve taken more risks, this isn’t at all a toothless EP, combining layers of shoegaze and emo into a little 30 minutes of indie pop. It’s not actually that bad at all y’all sleeping on it.
Björk 6/?
Selmasongs waves off a pretty slow and sluggish start to become a very solid work by Björk. I don’t remember the movie that well (I did watch it before), so I didn’t really have any attachment per say, but this was still really solid. The song with Thom Yorke was so so so pretty.
Quite possibly one of the most hyped hip hop albums of all time, and how does it live up to its hype? It doesn’t really. I’m not faulting Travis for experimenting, but having this album be this messy and just brushing the whole thing off as avant-garde is kind of tacky. The production is fine, and for the most part the features are too, although The Weeknd catches nothing but L’s and that Kid Cudi feature is embarrassingly short and back-handed (put him on the outro youch). ... read more
A very good project considering he has not dropped anything (officially, so not soundcloud) in years, but I feel like overall there was nothing really stand-out here. Again, no major qualms, it just wasn’t among the most interesting work he has made.
There’s something about this album that’s almost too carefree for me, to the point where it feels empty. Obviously living up to Saxophone Colossus is a hard task to do, but this isn’t quite it.
I’m into the swing of listening to music again, so I decided to go further in my top 10 albums per year journey. This is the most overrated album thus far. Little Richard is very influential in the R&B scene, but there’s much more influential artists who made much more interesting music, and that’s kinda that. The almost aggressive positive energy of this project is so of-the-time.
Björk 5/?
This album changed my life. I used to be real close-minded about music. I was younger and dismissive of pretty much every type of non-rock music. The first album to really push me towards experimenting my music tastes was this one.
This is one of those albums I wish I could listen to for the first time again (Live in Chicago, 1999 by Joan of Arc prob my most tho). Sparked by her very messy break-up with the DJ Goldie, and most of all, the extremely public case of Ricardo Lopez, ... read more
One of the greatest country albums I’ve ever heard, and that’s coming from someone who tends to dislike country. His voice is not only fantastic but the instrumentals are really moody and it’s just so nice. The back end of this album has an insane run too, with a slew of classics.
It’s a cool album with decent well-aged production, but rockabilly was never one of my favorite genres.

Historically, Post has been one of my least revisited Björk albums. Before this particular listen, I had always found this project extremely overrated. Not that it’s bad or anything; Björk has never released a bad album. However, I could never truly get the praise. On this listen though. Wow. This is only a half step below Homogenic for me, and Homogenic is quite literally one of my favorite albums of all time. Post hits all of the boxes for a near perfect pop ... read more
Squid’s new album is good, albeit not great like many have iterated. I thought overall the album sounded quite fantastic, with a special focus on auxiliary percussion which added a really nice feel to the whole project. I thought the saxophone sounded great too (although it could be mixed too low on some tracks), and added a nice addition.
Then, why do I feel it’s overrated? Well, I had very high expectations. Bright Green Field for a year or two remained at a 10/10 for me. It was ... read more
EDIT: this def doesn’t stick with me anymore, i’m gonna remove the score and revisit it one day.
(original: 75) A strange listen. It was a great project overall, one where u could truly feel the pain of Earl. However, tbh, it doesn’t have like any emotional affect on me at all. I’m not really disappointed which is the weird part, but this thing made me feel absolutely nothing when it has moved so many people. While it’s something treasured by so many, it’s ... read more
Björk 3/?
Yeah, this is where shit gets REALLY good. While the previous two albums I covered had her creating them as either a literal child or as part of a jazz quintet, this was a project created on completely her own accord and will. Her vision is much more clear here, and it is more indicative of the sound she would take in the albums to follow. What’s notable about this album despite it just being her true debut is the fact that it’s pretty much a dance album first and ... read more
