(Not listening to the leak because... I dunno, just because)
The Singles Ranked:
5.TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME (58)
Kinda catchy at point and not too bad instrumentation imo, but the lyrics are pretty bad, corny and attempting WAY too much to be witty. The hook does kinda get me nodding along, but its still pretty trash. Not as god awful as others make out.
4.Give Yourself A Try (59)
Really not much better with this one, with the same overly-millennial based lyrics a really tinny, metallic chorus ... read more
holy shit this is amazing. The beats are simplistic and slightly repetitive, however the mans incredible flows carry the album through without tiring. Lyrically, I will need to look into this more with a few more listens, but this is for sure one of my favourite hip-hop releases this year.
(Edit) OK, second listen. This is instrumentally not as initially amazing as I thought on my first listen, however this reallly knows how to write a verse. His lyricism is the most impressive thing about ... read more
Joanna Newsome - Ys
Wow, this album is incredible. First off, though it is a relatively long project at 56 minutes, it feels so much shorter as it manages to grab you with such strong grip it practically violates you. It feels so intimate and serene, painting beautiful, breath-taking imagery with just a harp and Joanna's incredible voice; never before has such minimalistic instrumentation felt so intricate and wholesome. Joanna sounds a bit like Bjork to me at many points during the album, yet ... read more
Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand
Let this be a warning to other bands that sighting Mark E. Smith as an influence isn't a good idea. He will come back from his grave to haunt you. Anyways it bops.

Converge - Jane Doe
Ferocious, aggressive, abrasive, Heavy, impressive, vulgar, Fierce, savage, wild, feral, technical, awe-inspiring, bloody, barbaric, violent, ravenous, severe, acute, predatory, hellish... repetitive, tedious, boring (at times), tiresome? Purely at this point my rating on my sheer respect towards the music, since fucking hell from a technical standpoint it is incredible! But from a listeners standpoint? It goes hard, and I mean HARD, but does it grip you entirely all the way ... read more
Death Grips - Government Plates
By far Death Grips most abstract release, Government Plates is an album that fucks all of the boundaries and leaves Ride and Hill to their own accord, creating some incredibly abrasive, aggressive music, which is sometimes even beautiful. The trademark delivery and abstract, intense lyricism is still here, and even more powerful than ever, taking mundane things and brutalising then, such as the song birds. The somewhat looser, less-bound-down-by-rules approach ... read more
Death Grips - Year of the Snitch
I really hope that this clicks with me at some point... Ride's vocals just feel really subdued and purposely restrained, which isn't a natural feel at all paired with his voice and lyricism. The quieter performance really clashes with the densely packed, technical instrumentation that the production aims at. Don't get me wrong, I still like this album, and it has some great cuts, however for me it feels like a let down and a blemish on DG's otherwise brilliant ... read more
All Them Witches - Our Mother Electricity
A cool debut, showcasing some of their best performances yet (namely, opening track Heavy/Like a Witch is a Psychedelic/Stoner/Blues fusion masterpeice) however they are yet to really carve out their own sound. Their influences are so blatantly obvious at times that even though the quality of music is good, it feels like a complete rip-off. Some bands are well known for wearing their influence on their sleeve (cough oasis cough), but on a few songs it ... read more
FUCK OFF Rolling Stone. They've done so many shit ratings I wouldn't be surprised if their existence was entirely made to piss people off.
Fav Tracks: Gun to the Head, Ribbons, Merrie Land, The Truce of Twilight, Nineteen Seventeen, Lady Boston, The Great Fire
Least Fav Track: Drifters and Trawlers
(edit) Holy shit I just found out that Tony Visconti produced this! That must be why it sounds so great.
This is a great improvement form glitterbug and shows the wombats ability to write pretty catchy stadium tunes, and only that. They are pretty great live and get the crowd moving, but they were nowhere near my fav act at the festival
Love it. Especially Heat, like bloody hell what an amazing track to begin an album on.

(Full review iab maybe. I dunno)
Love that they take a few more risks and try new directions, but I still like the consistent, brash and abrasive sound of they debut a lot more.
Seriously, the whisper rapping on dream pisses me the fuck off, and I don't know why. The atmosphere and bell chimes work so well, but seriously what the fuck is that rapping.
