genuinely incomprehensible, my brain feels like its been scrambled.
EDIT: i've listened to this album like three times in the past couple of days because of how fucking fascinated I am, jesus christ what is this thing??
Its nice to listen to music that doesn't make me sad as hell for once
This album is more evidence to my yet to be disproven hypothesis that all trans people have super-powers. RIP to Sophie, this album alone cements her as an absolute sonic powerhouse.
This is a truly bizarre collection of electronic drones, experimental rock, and terrifying field recordings all anchored by several post-rock master pieces that still sound fresh after almost 30 years. Dark, warm, static-y, ominous, all are words that describe the songs here, but they just don't do the music justice. Its so uncaring and apathetic to the listener, it doesn't try to water its messages down in any way, and while that sentiment is shared by other Swans albums, this album ... read more
god DAMN my ears are eating good!! this shit is so joyous and spell-binding, mainly because of how DENSE all of these songs are. i feel like i haven't even scratched the surface of these songs yet because of how much depth each individual track has. i'm really exited to see how this album grows and changes as I give it more time :)
Everything I liked about contemporary movement, with more memorable moments, more dynamics, and better pacing. I also feel a lot of concepts I loved on contemporary movements got fleshed out a lot more here, which really sucked into the blurry, hazzy spaces these songs build.
A really soothing and pretty listen, some really incredible stand-out songs too (Diamond, Me and the Birds, and Auto-Mobile). I wish the individual tracks were more memorable though, right now I only remember 1-2 songs and I think thats because most of the riffs and general sounds are incredibly similar.
VERY different from mezzanine, but still enjoyable. Very warm and groovy, though not a lot of individual moments stuck out due to how this album stays pretty consistent in its sound.
Whoever helped make this album sound this smooth deserve a nice kiss on the forehead before they go to sleep
you can't just be this consistent. you have to miss at some point right?
I've been reading a book called Fearless about the history of post-rock (very interesting read, should definitely check it out if your interested in learning about the genres history). This album was cited as one of the first post-rock albums ever in the 90s british post-rock scene, and I decided to give it a listen! I cannot stress this enough, this is one of the weirdest fucking listens I've ever heard. I honestly can't even tell if I like it, I'm just fascinated. I keep ... read more
I honestly wasn't expecting much from this album despite its high score, mainly because the idea of rap and post-rock going together sounded... questionable. But this is pretty good! The messaging of the album is really powerful, and I really like the more intense, post-punky parts of the album. The more stereotypical post-rock parts kinda dragged imo.
It is... peak
Even without a good friend of mine making this, it is a very good ep, with great drum programming, amazing synth sounds, and really solid pacing (even for how short it is). Good ass ep :D
Im really impressed by the fact four teenagers had this much song-writing, and tension building talent. I feel like I could listen to some of these riffs for ages without them losing their effectiveness, and some of these lyrics cut really deep even after multiple listens (I'm looking at you Don, Aman, Jesus Christ). I also think its really great in retrospect to see how this and Laughing Stock represent two totally different sides of post-rock, two sides that would kinda crash together to ... read more
How the hell did only TWO PEOPLE make this much noise?! Theirs so much color and energy in every second of the album it feels like a nuclear warhead just completely enveloping your ears. I would expect the sound palette to get stale but I just feel so consumed by the pure technicolor of this album every time I listen. I only have to deduct 5 points because I get a splitting headache every time I listen but that's a price I'm willing to pay for music this insane.
I have finished To Be Kind. My lungs feel empty, my ears are ringing, my brain is pounding against the walls of my skull, and I couldn't be happier about it.
I wish I listened to this instead of GWBOF as an intro to the band
