Nitepunk - Red Turbulence

Nice little boost to my energy!

This project is bold and in your face just below the point of being over the top. I prefer the longer tracks like Absolute Zero and Shibui as they have a bit more time to play with and feel they develop a bit more. The other tracks are also nice just a bit more direct in a way that does not resonate with me.

Lil Mabu - YOUNG GENIUS
7

What a pile of BIG DOG SH*T.

Honestly, I tried going into this record with a limited bias and just listen to the music for the music. Even if you do that, the music is still terrible on its own. This really plays like a kid who took a spin through some online message boards, maybe even took a walk around the block, and wrote down every bit of slang he heard to then compile it into a giant theatrical show. Mabu taking a shot at 6ix9ine is freaking hilarious when it is basically a mime making ... read more

Enjoy - Exploited
67

Very interesting twist on punk.

This thing will be going full speed into a brick wall and just bust out a smooth melodic acoustic jam from nowhere. I find the vocals somewhere between fitting and a tad obnoxious but the instrumentals keep me up to pace. Not exactly my cup of tea when it comes to punk but it has some charm to it. Make A Dent In The City is a great closer though!

Daft Punk - Discovery

Yup, about time I discovered Discovery.

Get it..... because it's titled Discovery..... so clever.

Yeah this album is extremely foundation existing so that other albums could follow in it's footsteps. This project does everything right in terms of making and experience that is accessible to many and easy to rock along with. The producing and mixing on this project is impeccable with everything being in just that sweet spot when it comes to balance. The parts where there are vocal inclusions ... read more

Wanted to like this more but cannot force it.

This thing has really nice production with a very dense texture. I was heavily enjoying this project within the first four tracks but after that point felt a brief slowdown allowing for some less impressive vocals to shine through and wear on me a bit. Us pretenders was able to real me back in getting me a bit with its emotional charm; however, that didn't last and I found myself slipping back to my previous feelings right after.

Rina Sawayama - SAWAYAMA (Deluxe Edition)
69

Score only reflective of additional tracks on reissue.

After seeing peoples comments of this being unnecessary I was certainly surprised given my enjoyment with the original LP. Sadly, the feedback you are seeing here is in fact very true to what you will get here. The live and acoustic tracks have a certain charm to them but the actual extra tracks are really questionable. LUCID is likely the least serious offender here but We Out Here is a huge step down and Bees & Honey simply should ... read more

Yeah this album gonna be different. Not exactly sure how I sit on that but these tracks are okay. Just hoping they click a little more in the context of the rest of the record.

Rachel Prancer - i can't go back home
77

Loud and in your face. I like the alternations in vocal effect about halfway in the song and the crashing guitars.

Rachel Prancer - needs (i like)

Spiderblush who said you could do shoegaze too? No stop it spiderblush. Don't do shoegaze I would hate that.

When I heard the first two tracks I really thought I was going to love this but found myself falling out bit by bit as the project progressed.

Loud, messy, and chaotic.

If I had a time machine this is what I would go back and make pilgrims listen to.

Rachel Prancer - all boys taste the same
75

This one is giving me pink Eilish? Billie pantheress? Still fun especially the little slow down towards the end.

Rachel Prancer - self torment
69

Spiderblush sure does love to play around with different sounds. This one is a little bit laid back and electronic influenced with a hint of jersey in there.

Rachel Prancer - All Alone
69

I much much much more fleshed out experience from Spiderblush.

I especially like the deep sub and some of the glitchy pop sounds in the background. Pretty much each single this artist releases is a tad bit more in the right direction.

Rachel Prancer - depraved
66

This is the song that put this artist on my map and I think showed up in my discover weekly? I thought this was a pretty dreamy track but too short to come back to. Wouldn't be bad in a sleepy time playlist.

Rachel Prancer - Bigger Man
61

Much more of a thought out experience than the first song I listened to. The vocals are actually pretty alluring there just isn't too much variation in the singing to see where it can go. Lyrics pretty basic.

Rachel Prancer - teen age bed room
54

Vocals fighting the air to exist. It is short but has a nice groove going for it. Not much more than that here.

D.I.T.C. - D.I.T.C.
73

Real nice. You get a lot on this record with such a diverse roster of people showing up to spit verses. The production is one of the best aspects here and the only thing detracting from a deep enjoyment is some bars that for a lack of a better word didn't age too well.

"100% agree that this album needs its time to really grow on you! I actually enjoy Dryland and The Fish Song quite a bit, but can certainly understand some of the apprehension to fully getting lost within those tracks. I think I may need to spin back on the album yet again and re-evaluate my scores since I didn't give Where Did You Go a 100 and it is one of the most memorable tracks off the album for me. Great review!"
