my little airport - 跟你開玩笑
78

My friend recommended I check this out so I did.

I like the sound a lot, very dreamy and sleepy. I fell out a little bit on the 6th track but otherwise very pleased.

DANGUS - Gingers: The Album
12

Score coming entirely from "Ireland."

Yeah it's a decent gag but also painful to listen to. I download and send to some people :)

My left ear appreciated Angry Ale.

Rina Sawayama - SAWAYAMA
90

Woah Rina what are you doing there! Pop music isn't allowed to sound like this!

From the intro track I knew this thing was going to be vastly different than anything around it and was only a matter of time for me to come around to this after loving Hold The Girl. What pop song do you know starts with an electric guitar, transitions into metal instrumentation, and has a cello? The track Paradisin' might be a slight departure from the sounds before it that I less enthused on compared to other ... read more

Vessel - Wrapped in Cellophane
64

Vessel has an interesting sound to them. A mish mash of indie, folk, and alt rock but what is the brass doing here? Am I smelling jazz influence?

There is something going on here that I can get behind but I really cannot put my finger on it. I won't lie I do find some of the singing to be a bit rough around the edges but not enough to turn me off completely.

Moody Good - Goofball
78

In spirit of Jimmytics,

WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS.

In all seriousness, this was a nice introduction to some more experimental dub/riddim work. I found this project enthralling enough to rock along to for it's entire runtime. However, this project still left me with a feeling of missing out like there was more to appreciate here. Since this is my first time really dipping my toes in this territory I could see me needed more exposure to other works or repeat listens to have this ... read more

BABYMONSTER - BABYMONS7ER
38

I am glad to find I am not just the asshole who doesn't like K-pop here.

I really found this project to be underwhelming from a production and singing standpoint. Production wise I really didn't get any of that glamorous k-pop instrumentation, let alone regular pop instrumentation. Vocally, the singers her have nice voices sure but I feel they don't really go for anything. Whenever there is a singer going for a larger moment it is buried behind other vocals in the chorus or ect. This is a ... read more

Stepcat - The Jitterbug
89

I may be cheating and have a connection when it comes to EDM.....

That connection is Doksys :) great recommendation friend. If you want to follow someone who knows EDM check them out!

Which when it comes to a general I don't typically gravitate to, I will take all the freebies I can! This whole entire project is super bouncy and slidey. Utilizing the electronic and glitch elements to add to the swing and not take away from it. This project does a good job of finding that fine balance between ... read more

Dr. Ozi - Blue Print
88

Going to preface this with dubstep not being one of my most listened genres.

With that being said, this is a really good dubstep EP. This project is at it's best when it has the energy all the way up with maximal production. This can be noted in the mid-section of Johnny, in the drops on Mr. Green, and as well in Blue Print. In a time post Skrillex, Excision, and worst of all Chainsmokers... I feel a project like this needs a good sense of identity and personality to make it stand out to me. I ... read more

Frank Ocean - Cayendo

I almost forgot this single existed.

Am I silly for wanting more Frank Ocean music?

The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army

I keep thinking of the kid who slams the oven....

GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD.

Really though, this song is super infectious and actually deserves to be played at sports games.

Alice Cooper - Poison
88

The better side of hair metal. I like the rasp in Cooper's vocal delivery and the only element that really takes away from this song for me is the synth throughout the track. I find them unneeded.

Florida Georgia Line - Cruise (Remix)
5

When people say they hate country I imagine this is what they think of.

I dislike beer-country so damn much, and to have Nelly as the cherry on top really is a treat.

Katy Perry - Roar
85

Going to go on a bit of single spree here so please forgive me.

This song used to have a spot in my gym playlist. That's all.

This song may be a bit over the top and dare to say corny but it make you feel good.

Ramy Essam - Resala Ela Magles El Amn
89

Truly a spectacular album! Thank you to [redacted] for recommending this album to me!

If you want to listen with English translations highly suggest listening on Youtube as Ramy has provided most tracks with translations, again big thank you to [redacted] for making me aware of this. Consider this a disclaimer, I can only interpret this album through an English perception and I would certainly imagine the native tongue carries a stronger punch to some of the meaning in these tracks.

Edit 04/02/2024 1 -> 3: Idk

Yeah.... this is not good. Like really not good.

Surface level approaches to rather serious subject matter and a flip flop relationship with one's drug use make this thing truly an unbearable listen. It really doesn't matter if some of the instrumentals are okay or there is a good line or two when it is intermixed with all this slop.

I get the feeling MGK has a bit of a chip on his shoulder and wants to prove something to his haters with the way he is so ... read more

French Montana - Jungle Rules
22

I completely forgot I actually listened to this thing until I pulled up my notes today.

Literally cannot remember a single thing about it. Anything redeemable is not done by French's hands and is the features doing the backbreaking work.

Camila Cabello - I LUV IT
80

Edit 04/04/2024 50 ->80: Cannot get this song out of my head. I will not apologize. I want an entire album from Camilla like this.

Edit 03/31/2024 12 -> 50: My brain is actually fucked. I stand by what I initially said but this song is warming up on me for whatever reason. I think it is just Camilla's voice honestly.

Further notes.... nope my brain is actually fucked. When you get the Carti voice down the verse is actually fun to go along with.

GARBAGE.

Juice WRLD - Goodbye & Good Riddance
69

Groundbreaking for sure but as time progressed signs of this things imperfections are much more apparent, especially with further releases. I think I will always have a special place for this record but some of the mixing here leaves Juice's voice feeling very robotic and underwater. On top of this you also suffer from long album syndrome with the second half feeling less climactic as the first. When this thing shines it certainly does shine bright though.

Black Eyed Peas - Let's Get It Started (The Urbz Edition)
31

I swear this wasn't on the Nintendo DS version of the game....

Really though, who thought this was a good idea? They speak through tin cans on Ga Ra Ta Da (also very clever) and there is a kazoo on The Sticky. Friddy Dope might have one of the most annoying uses of chipmunk voice as well.

"100% agree that this album needs its time to really grow on you! I actually enjoy Dryland and The Fish Song quite a bit, but can certainly understand some of the apprehension to fully getting lost within those tracks. I think I may need to spin back on the album yet again and re-evaluate my scores since I didn't give Where Did You Go a 100 and it is one of the most memorable tracks off the album for me. Great review!"
