Obligatory Jesus Jesus Japanesus.
Now with that out of the way, rambles of a privileged American girl. Still music. I ship Demondice and Tom McDonald.
Very brief and straight to the point introduction of the at the time upcoming band Paris soon to become PVRIS. This project does a great job of highlighting the killer vocals of the singer Lynn Gunn that will only go on to mature vocally and become even more influential. This EP is backed with punky rock instrumentals and some features of electronic elements foreshadowing the bands move to a more heavily electronic influenced sound in later years. Project full of energy packed vocals over heavy trap instrumentals. Definitely some song on here are signs of the times when this album was made and reflect the sound of the genre at the time well. However, throughout my listens this thing just seems to loose it's steam and substance about half way through. 12 Bricks for me is the most standout track as it is just a straight up hilarious experience and has me grinning through the whole listen. Truly rap theatre at its finest.
Coi Leray is my definition of unrealized potential. When I first heard this project I certainly wasn't a huge fan but there were tracks I could enjoy. Since then coi has lost her uniqueness in her vocals and just became very generic. Sadly this project serves as a cold reminded to that fact and itself has not aged very well.
The instrumentals on this thing are good. The singing is fine. The lyrics send me. I will admit I am 100% biased here but there is nothing that can be done to make me enjoy this project anymore. That being said, it's still better than Jake Paul.
Oh where do I begin? This project spans almost 34 minutes and accomplishes what most albums wish to do in much longer. Charli has refined her sound on "Crash" and combined it with a combination of retro, modern pop, and hyper-pop instrumentals to deliver a real banger of an experience.
Let me admit, this is the first Charli XCX record I had originally listened to back in 2022 and I only thought to check her out because her record caught my eye at a record store. From the first ... read more
This album contains some of the most physically disorienting music possible. A little over halfway through I had to pause the record and take a break on it. The additions of some crunk-core tracks throughout the project certainly don't aid either.
First two tracks are alright, the rest is tone deaf and aged like milk. The lyrics really take away from instrumentals that in most case are otherwise pretty alright.
I am really lost for words after listening to this record. It is one word and that is simply "perfection." Every instrument has room to breathe and every player gets their time to shine. This thing has truly withstood the test and time and come out on top for a reason.
People will say this album sounds like people throwing shit at a wall and hoping it sticks. While the instrumentals may lead you to think that there is plenty to be pulled from the scattered and chaotic lyrics on this project. My favorite moment has to be off the song "Mind" with the parrot like vocalization of the lyrics "Free thinkers are dangerous." Went into this not expecting to be extremely positive on it but was pleasantly surprised.
Positions is a journey of growth in Ariana's character climaxing in the closing track "POV." This record has moments where she dips into her regular pocket of radio tailored pop songs but some of the deeper cuts explore Ariana's journey into being happy and content with her adult life and marriage. Songs such as "My Hair" and "Safety Net" are silky smooth to the listener and are at the end of the day just sexy songs. Prefacing this with being an Ariana fan this is ... read more
Breezing through the clouds as a toaster pastry kitten describes the soundscape of this record perfectly. This record does a good job at playing directly into the pocket of bubblegum electro hyperpop but doing just enough to stand out from the rest of the crop. The highs on this record are exceptional with the lows not taking too much away from the record as a whole. If you like festival sized instrumentals and vocals that cut right through this will be right up your alley. Highlight tracks ... read more
For the most of the first half of this record Neck Deep sounds a bit too much like a certain particular other artist for my liking. With that being said from the song December onward this album puts in an extra tank of gas and makes the ending quite enjoyable.
This record follows a similar tune as their EP Totep in that it faces you with a bunch of happy sounding songs with dark undertones that just go over very well. While some of Kero Kero's usual antics are in full swing throughout this record breaking down beats at a moments notice I honestly feel like it adds positively to this project. Just be careful with who you show this record off to as the breakdowns may scare the weak.
The strong tracks on this project suffer from not feeling quite complete and the weaker tracks lack focus. Still likely to be my most enjoyed project by Jack Harlow to date.
It's more than a little bit rough on the ears with many tracks mixed horribly. The almost megaphone volume lyrics do not aid in this either. I kept wondering throughout my listen "am I supposed to be having sex to this?"
Taking into account these are all demos they do show some promise if fleshed out. That being said, as standalone tracks in there current state the leave a lot to wish for. The song "thoughts" in particular sounds quite pleasant until interrupting by a rough buzzing sound. The song lost is my personal favorite with spacey tones in the background and beautiful chords in the foreground. Ultimately would like to see a finished state of this project to see the progression.
This album plays like trading your essay with the good student in class and seeing perfection. There are many gems to pick from on this record with heart-felt lyrics, climaxing choruses, and beautiful instrumentals. Taylor has absolutely nailed the formula on this one with the front end of the record being full of highlight tracks. My main complaint with this project would be the closing track "Long Live." It seems to want to be very magical and fantasy like but comes off as a ... read more
It's all just a random lottery of meaningless tragedy and a series of near escapes. A Quarter Pounder with cheese. Those are good.
