Enjoyable EP that does a great job of setting the groundwork of what Paramore would go on to do musically in the following years. In my opinion this thing loses gas towards the backend of the project but has enough stand out tracks to make it a fun listen. My main dislike with this project would just have to be some of the mixing on a few tracks with vocals feeling a bit lost. Still very solid and if you are a fan of Paramore's modern sound I would highly suggest a listen.
With a very similar feeling to his later project "Mixtape" Bobbing again surprises me with clean production and interesting tracks on this EP. This thing has a very upbeat feel to it and pairs really well casual video games or active listening. My favorite track would definitely be the closer "Johnny Bravo" with it remaining very focused throughout and climaxing perfectly at the end closing off the whole EP. Highly suggest checking this thing out especially with its quick ... read more
Got suggested this thing on spotify with 30 monthly listeners and decided to give it a listen. There is certainly something here although I can't quite put my finger on it. The music is very atmospheric and if I had to bet money I would guess a few of the artists in this group weren't necessarily sober making this. That being said the music remains entrancing and entertained me for a full listen though there wasn't really anything that wow'ed me. From the looks of things these artists haven't ... read more
What could be a damn near perfect pop album is sadly bogged down by a few slightly lackluster tracks. This album begins putting Miley's passion and vocal fry on full display and the first two intro tracks you get an idea of the vibe for the record. This thing in intended to be an emotional ride and Miley delivers on that throughout the project. Some of my personal highlight tracks are the tear jerking "Thousand Miles," River, Muddy Feet, Flowers, and Jaded. For me the low-points on ... read more
I regret investing the time I did to listen to this. In a vacuum there are redeemable elements to the content here but as an entire package it is nothing better than monetizing childhood/teenage trauma and none of it is even real. Not going to ramble more than that, this thing is a miserable experience and my one listen is enough for me.
It's just a lyrical miracle taking their stab at rapping over trap beats. Not the worst thing I have heard but also nothing to memorable on this thing either. Gives me vibes similar to that of Logic except in this case I think I would rather still stick with this. Album could maybe go hard in the gym but for sit down listening it doesn't do much to move me. There were a couple cool moments on the project on the songs "Goof Troop" and "Tony 2 Phones" and if the rest of the ... read more
Edit 03/24/2024 96 -> 100: Yeah I don't know what I was on but X and ATWA are freaking amazing and Arlo is fine for a closer.
Damn near perfect album and arguably System of a Down's best work. This thing throws you against a wall and bombards you with emotion. Some of the lines on this project may be a little cheesy but the conviction behind how they are presented sells itself. While there were a few tracks I didn't enjoy as much as the others I could see them being other's favorites with ... read more
I took a trip to Caroline's island and have return a changed person. The sunset and breeze were to die for and I believe it will be a vacation to remember... In all seriousness go listen to this project when you get the chance. Caroline utilizes her vocal capabilities to the fullest on this album to transport you to an entirely different world if you allow it. This thing is a strong contender to be my favorite project of the year.
Genre defining must hear trap album. This thing was infectious in my growing years with its unique production doing something that at the time was not able to be found elsewhere. Going back with time this thing remains a standout project that can stand toe to toe with many other projects in the same sound space.
Edit 09/02/2024: Following the re-release of Days Before Rodeo I will eventually be revisiting this. I can already tell I was too hard on it while in my pretention phase and was just ... read more
While there is still some guilty pleasure nostalgia factor to this EP that gets me this thing just really isn't all that impressive, You have acoustic guitar, ukulele, and Christopher's vocals that's about it. Then there are the random synth additions which are basic and unnecessary,
With hoes and the criminally online in their crosshairs JPEG and Danny successfully capture my enjoyment with their first installment (hopefully more to come) of Scaring the Hoes. The production is immediately one of the most gripping factors to this project but the duo's verses not only fit well placed over the instrumentals but are also packed full of content. Great album likely to be in a lot of peoples year end lists for 2023.
Very solid project! Anna has a very beautiful tone to her voice and commands it well. Paired with pleasant instrumentals this project is quick and captivating throughout. Will definitely be checking out this artists other work in the future and highly recommend taking a little time out to give this a try.
Favorite track: ADHD
This thing is a near perfect pop classic with slow jams and bangers alike. The first track "Run Away with Me" will give you a perfect idea for what you are getting into with this record. The original 12 track run of the album feels extremely thought out leaving behind any bloat and just going from idea to idea seamlessly. If someone wanted to get into pop music but didn't know where to start this is the first place I would direct them.
As an enjoyer of Lil Uzi Vert I really didn't expect for this to be as unpleasant of an experience as it was. The entire first half of this project just feels uninspired. Specifically, the song "Endless Fashion" which, while better than the other recent interpolation of Eiffel 65's "Blue," is just never going to do anything other than make me want to go listen to the original. This song is also immediately followed by another interpolation of "Somebody That I Used to ... read more
Crisp and adventurous EP from singer/songwriter Rina Sawayama. Serves as an excellent introduction to her music style utilizing modern pop elements alongside retro throwbacks. Thoroughly enjoy this project and with it's concise run time it does not spoil its welcome. Alterlife would be my most praised track of this EP with me coming back for it again and again.
It's the best Ariana album to date. This album is full of pop bangers that are sure to please but I want to really highlight on song in particular. "Ghostin" is a touching and heart wrenching song touching on Ariana's grief following the loss of then ex Mac Miller. The emotion on this track is palpable and I urge people who may not even be fans of hers to just try out this one song in particular if any. If you like Ariana or radio pop music this album will be right up your alley and ... read more
Edit 05/07/2024 0 -> 1: After comparing this to other 0's I have reviewed I don't think it deserves to be in the same conversation as the others. Still never wanna listen again though.
Talking badly about this album is like beating a horse to death till it comes back alive, goes to prison, writes a rap album about how abusive the meat industry is, dies again, goes to hell, makes out with the devil, goes to heaven, fights god, and dies again. I sat through all 31 minutes of this and there ... read more
In anticipation of the upcoming album I found it fitting to go back and revisit this gem. After hearing it consistently on the radio at work I worried that it may have soured (pun slightly intended) on me, but am happy to say it really hasn't. Some of the subject matter may find itself a bit repetitive, but that is to be expected with a teenage heartbreak album. The strong tracks here do bring a breathe of fresh air to the genre though for sure. Some highlight tracks would be the punky Good 4 ... read more
Edit 05/14/2024 81 ->88: My head has been pulled out of my ass a bit for this rescore. Blame Game is far from my favorite Kanye song, mostly due to the back half of the song, but the first half is still pretty enjoyable. Otherwise just bumped up scores on tracks like Gorgeous, So Appaled, and Hell Of a Life that I was super nitpicky on.
Very interested going back through Kanye's catalogue as a long time fan and seeing how aging has changed my perception on his works. This album still ... read more
