JYOCHO - 碧い家で僕ら暮らす [Days in the Bluish House]
80

Seeing the consistency and progressive improvement from their first project to their second I can only hope that this improvement keeps up for the next projects. Thoroughly enjoyed start to finish.

JYOCHO - 祈りでは届かない距離 [A Prayer in Vain]

This thing is a progressive experience just exciting enough to keep you attentive but soothing enough to let you drift off a bit. My advice, kick your feet up, lay back, and enjoy.

Lupin - Lupin
79

Very clean sound given the amount of experimentation going on here. Certainly gives me a good enough reason to keep my eye out for more from the artist.

The intro track "dui" sounds like it belongs on an episode of Happy Tree Friends specifically one with the ex-military bear. It's crazy to say it may also be the most focused song on this track list. The title "music 2" is very fitting for this project as the remainder of the tracks feel like a collection of genre-adjacent music without a destination.

Rico Nasty & Kenny Beats - Anger Management

Let the anger consume you. This thing is high energy and short enough to not burn itself out. Quick enjoyable listening experience.

Travis Scott - UTOPIA
77

While Lil Uzi was releasing his version of "WLR," Travis Scott was working on his version of "Donda." This thing is extremely bloated with tracks ranging from some of Travis's best to some of his absolute worst. I certainly don't hate the project but where I could see "Pink Tape" growing on me I really only see "Utopia" waning over time with me. To highlight some positive aspects the first two tracks are a great high energy intro to the album. "I ... read more

Wait a minute..... do I like shoegaze? With an album we will see!

Edit 09/15/2024 85 -> 90: Score bump. Not much else to say here. I really enjoy this album a lot and really is just a matter of songs sliding their way into perfect territory.

While listening to this I had what little help translations could provide to get a grasp of what the lyrics were but that didn't get in the way of enjoying this because it is a whole vibe. Rosalia's voice is super sweet with just the right amount of attitude in there to demand attention. This paired with ... read more

DYL - A Requiem for the Future
98

This project is a wild ride in the most positive way possible! Getting a couple tracks in you think you know what you are getting into and then it just takes turn after turn. The first handful of tracks are extremely smooth and I especially love "Lean on Me" with its playful instrumentation and killer ending. In the middle section of this record it takes a bit of a slower turn especially on the track "You Can Rest Now" which is extremely heartfelt and touching. My only real ... read more

Kacey Musgraves - Same Trailer Different Park

Solid country project that utilizes angelic vocals and beautiful instrumentation to keep you listening. I enjoyed this thing thoroughly musically some of the lyrics just make this hard for me to grip to. Silver Lining really stands out on this project to me with it weary guitars and soft vocals. This things serves as a great introduction to Kacey's music and if you like what you hear on this you'll certainly love her other work.

Joey Purp - iiiDrops
90

This thing has certainly aged pretty well. The production across this whole project and beat selection is certainly a step above the rest and Joey's storytelling on a lot of these tracks is phenomenal. There is also a lot of variety on this project between hard tracks like "Godbody" and more sentimental tracks like "Cornerstore." The track that likely stands out most from the others on this would be "Kids" with Joey going a bit more experimental with his vocals ... read more

Juice WRLD - Death Race For Love

R.I.P.

Great album from the late Juice Wrld with extremely dark tones. Some lyrics on this thing are chilling considering his passing but I still enjoy coming back to this project. There is a slight dip in overall quality of the tracks on the backend of the record but nothing on this is terrible. Some of my favorite moments are Thug and Juice trading verses on 'ON GOD," the country twang in "Flaws and Sins," and the smoothness of both "Hear me Calling" and ... read more

The Offspring - Ixnay on the Hombre
89

Thank you Crazy Taxi and Tony Hawk for introducing me to this band. Classic punk rock with some ska and grunge influence sprinkled throughout. The intermission and intro are to each their own but the core music is some of my favorite of the time. Standout tracks are Mota, Gone Away, All I Want, and Amazed.

Plini - Other Things
85

Short experience that will give you a little taste of everything! The first track "Heart" is a nice opener and does a good job of easing the listener into the experience with every part of the track having plenty of space to breathe. This is followed up by the title track "Other Things" which has Plini doing exactly that utilizing much more jazz focused instrumentation. There is a wicked piano section and the bass is groovy. The closer track "Selenium Forest" is a ... read more

Nxtime - keep in touch

Edit 05/28/2024 35 -> 62: I don't know what I was on here at all.... This song is actually pretty damn fun and the vocals are super clean. Occasionally, there is a line that kind of rubs me the wrong way like, "The sex was good, but not your best," but I don't see it detracting from the entire experience. Dev does here thing here vocally and matches the feel of the song well, especially with the little "are you kidding me?" in the background. I can at least admit when I ... read more

Dev Lemons - Blue Beanie

Nice and sleepy instrumental but not much else goin on, would fit nicely in a lofi/bedroom pop playlist.

Nana Lourdes - Benighted Enlightened
85

This one is nice! Cloudy little instrumental with a nice jazzy groovy breakdown and keyboard solo. Synths go hard too.

Nana Lourdes - Superstar
55

There is a chilling haunting vibe to this one. I kinda like it though.

Nana Lourdes - WDWG
50

Indifferent on this one as well. The track just doesn't seem to really develop much or go anywhere.

Nana Lourdes - Two Steps Away
50

This thing is sloowwwwwww. There are some nice elements like the strings in the background and the glitched vocals towards the end though.

"100% agree that this album needs its time to really grow on you! I actually enjoy Dryland and The Fish Song quite a bit, but can certainly understand some of the apprehension to fully getting lost within those tracks. I think I may need to spin back on the album yet again and re-evaluate my scores since I didn't give Where Did You Go a 100 and it is one of the most memorable tracks off the album for me. Great review!"
