smiling broadly - "smiling broadly" EP

Nice little slice. Like the feeling of all the instrumentals on this project. The use of vocaloid for the vocals just leaves the thing feeling a bit soulless for me.

TURQUOISEDEATH - Se Bueno

I have been meaning to get around to listening to this full project after seeing such positive reception on this sight. Boy was it worth the listen, this thing manages to do things that drum and bass music has never been able to really do for me before. Usually that style of music comes off to me as a good idea repeated over and over; however, this project not only evolves on each tracks as it goes along but evolves within each track as well. This is best highlighted on the track ... read more

Lil Reese - Supa Savage 2
45

It was fun it the first half but the quality falls off a cliff for the second half. Some of the best parts of this mixtape are honestly the adlibs and the worst part about this thing is that the songs with features feel like Lil Reese is featuring on someone else's song. Boo.

Justin Bieber - Purpose
62

This thing is likely Justin Bieber's magnum opus. At its best it is radio friendly entertaining pop music and at its worst it is generic hard to sympathize with garbage.

traian - subtil

Didn't want to write this artist off after not fairing well with their newer EP, but boy am I glad I came back to check out more of their work. This thing is impressive underground Romanian dance pop? My favorite track by far is "Doar tu" which really scratched the itch in my brain for nightcore sounds. The fifth track also has really cool sounds that reminds me of watching jumpstyle youtube videos back in high school. Only real complaint with this thing is that the tracks I really do ... read more

I am back! Let me just say Path of Exile is a cruel mistress sucking the time out of it's victims. With that being said on to this EP. This thing is what feels like the Polish take on New York drill music. The beats on this thing are absolutely ridiculous especially on the intro track with tons of southern hip hop soundbites featured over a standard drill beat. All that considered, there is something magical about this that makes it not terrible, I don't know if it is the flows or the sheer ... read more

Billie Eilish - WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?
88

There was undeniably a lot of work that went into making this project. Between all the layered vocals and little production touches there is a lot to pick through across these 14 tracks. Not forgetting to mention Billie's raw vocal talent masterfully controlling her voice and really playing into the emotion of each track. My only real complaint lies in the final 3 tracks just feeling a bit lackluster next to the other powerhouses on this project, but the closer does serve as a nice little ... read more

I don't know what is worse. The fact I cannot tell a single one of these songs apart with the same repeating drum loop or the producer tag at the beginning of each song. I think it might even be stuck in my head.

Grimes - Art Angels
65

This thing is all over the place. Sometimes it ends up being for the benefit for some unique sounding pop music other times it just feels a tad overdone. Gives me enough of a reason to check out more but not blown away.

Nightwish - Showtime, Storytime
100

This thing is what every live show should strive to be. The energy is unmatched, the stage chemistry is impeccable, and the atmosphere created is second to none. By the near halfway point I was expecting for the performance to slow down a bit, but that never happened. Every member of the band was on 10 the whole performance if only getting better and you can tell the whole band was enjoying their time on stage and loved performing with one and other. I walked away from this live performance ... read more

Superhumanoids - Do You Feel OK?
72

Very solid synth pop, it really surprises me that this album/group isn't bigger than they are but without much work coming out in further years that will remain a mystery.

Olivia Rodrigo & Madison Hu - Bizaardvark (Music from the TV Series)
13

Bizaardvark presents itself as a blessing and curse. On one hand, we are blessed with Olivia Rodrigo who pop music is definitely better with rather than without. On the other hand, we have Jake Paul whos influence is seeped into every seem of this music.

Olivia Rodrigo - bad idea right?
100

There is something infectious and earwormy about this song with it's snarky delivery and insanely cheesy lyrics. I love it.

Edit: So.... yeah this thing is a banger and I can't stop wanting to hear it 85 -> 100

Finn Keane - Electric

Great electro/hyper/dance pop EP with lots of little intricate touches that make it stand out. Really love some of the warped synths on the opening track "Audio" or the track "No Body."

Kitarō - Silk Road, Vol. 2

The soundscape this record creates is absolutely stunning. My recommendation if you have a record player is to check around your local record shops/half priced books and see if you can find this record there. Place yourself right in the sweet spot and just let this paint the scenery for you.

boygenius - the record
95

Another strong contender for my album of the year all said and done. This indie folk album by the power trio that is boygenius is super sweet and sincere with splashes of personality from each of the individual members. Like their EP each act gets plenty of time to shine solo, but with even more tracks this time around that trade verses and layer vocals of each members perfectly. Give this thing a try and if you aren't feeling it get a little sadder and give it another shot it will work its ... read more

K.A.A.N. - 1/12/199?

I really don't have too much more to say about the album other than he spitting bars the entire time. Sometimes that is a positive and occasionally it gets a bit dull on the longer tracks. Still likely to be my favorite K.a.a.n. project to date with good beat choices and a concise runtime that doesn't overstay its welcome.

Cheetah Girls are goated don't @ me. That being said I am not delusional and the songs that aren't from the movie aren't in the same realm of the ones that are.

Pregaming for the record this is a great introduction to the group. There is a reason for the crazed obsession behind this group and that really is just high quality music. Each track on this EP gives time for each artist to shine individually but the magic really happens when they are layered over each other each adding different elements to each song. Two of my favorite examples of this are on the closing ends of the songs "Bite the Hand" and "Salt in the Wound." Really ... read more

"100% agree that this album needs its time to really grow on you! I actually enjoy Dryland and The Fish Song quite a bit, but can certainly understand some of the apprehension to fully getting lost within those tracks. I think I may need to spin back on the album yet again and re-evaluate my scores since I didn't give Where Did You Go a 100 and it is one of the most memorable tracks off the album for me. Great review!"
