Repost:

The best synthpop album of all time.

This is more than deserving of a strong 10/10; it’s basically everything you could ever want in a pop album. You have catchy, hooky songs like Image or Love Is Everywhere, as well as some more low-key deep cuts like Vampire in the Corner or Watching T.V., which are beautiful and unsettling at the same time, and that emotional contrast sets the stage for how strong the writing is across the record. The album focuses on figuring out who you are ... read more

Repost:

Who is this Bob Dylan guy anyway? Ripping off Death Grips’ famed hit ‘You Might Think He Loves You for Your Money…

Famed mumble rapper—and your dad’s favorite weirdo musician—Bob Dylan released what I genuinely believe to be his best album, one of the best albums of the ’60s, and quite possibly a top-five album of all time. Blonde on Blonde is basically Highway 61 Revisited (not literally), but with an extra 30 minutes of well-used ... read more

These guys managed to make a dog barking into one of the best-produced songs of the past 15 years.

I don’t even know how to justify this opinion — there’s just something about this record that triggers musical dopamine in my head. The vocals are solid, the lyricism is great, and the mixing goes hard as hell. BUT this is one of the best-produced albums you’ll hear in your life. I mean it — this album sounds like nothing else. Even in glitch/art pop, it’s ... read more

I spent the past hour trying to figure out the name of this track after hearing it at a theme park because it’s such an earworm for me. I ended up finding it just by looking through a K-pop playlist on Spotify.

Anyway, it’s a super catchy and, I assume, influential K-pop track. It’s not usually a style I’m into at all, but something about it in particular just sets off dopamine in my brain. I imagine it’s how BTS fans feel when listening to their music.

hemlocke springs - the apple tree under the sea

Very interesting but not really pulling me in unfortunately probably due to her honestly grating vocals

Favorite Track: sense (is)
Least Favorite Track: the beginning of the end

YUI - again

Title Track played at a fucking amusement park I went to today, between Shake It Off by Taylor Swift and Thunder by Imagine Dragons, and it’s like one of the best anime soundtracks of all time, sick ass riff.

Oh, also, by the way, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is probably my favorite anime, which is why I recognized it instantly.

Kashus Culpepper - Believe

I FOUND SOME GREAT COUNTRY WHAT THE HELL

Pharrell Williams - Happy
59

This guy produced Alright by Kendrick Lamar and Let God Sort Em Out by Clipse.

I’ll stand by the fact that the production on this track is straight-up amazing, but the fact that it’s become so overplayed and tries to force a feeling onto you makes me annoyed. Which is why it’s not rated higher.

Bon Jovi - Livin' On a Prayer
54

This was my favorite song when I was like 11-13 now I just see it as one of the most generic songs ever made

Also pop rock may be a bit harsh

Charli xcx - Wuthering Heights
86

Why go with Charli XCX for this soundtrack, the person who made Brat? turned out great, though. So I'm not complaining

Lil Nas X - Old Town Road (Remix)
84

heard this at a theme park recently and realized its actually pretty fire

I think the people who say this are in a way just as pretentious as music nerds but you guys need to learn how to have fun

Joanna Newsom - Ys

Maybe this is just my folk numbness, but every song kind of sounds the same. And truth be told—as much as this is gonna piss people off—she's not a good vocalist; in fact, I’d go as far as to say she’s straight-up a bad vocalist. Also, these songs drag on way too fucking long—seriously, this album should only be 30 minutes. However, the production is great, and the lyricism is even better. I’m surprised this even made the top 250; it’s not really ... read more

Death Grips - Exmilitary

MICHAEL IS THE GOAT DONT TAKE IT OFF OF SPOTIFY AGAIN

Exmilitary is one of my all-time favorite hip-hop albums. It personifies everything great about what I think sets Death Grips apart from other industrial hip-hop groups, especially MC Ride’s incredible energy and recognizability. Beyond that, it’s their ability to curate such catchy flows and hooks, specifically on Beware, which has one of my favorite hooks of all time. It feels like I’m evading taxes or committing a ... read more

I don’t know why I’m reviewing so many hip-hop singles recently, but this is one (no pun intended) of my favorite hip-hop tracks of all time. Listen to that second verse and you’ll understand why. Saturday Nite is great as well but this is a review for One.

GZA - Shadowboxin' / 4th Chamber
100

Both have two of the best beats I’ve ever heard. This whole album has some of the best beats I’ve ever heard, but the flows and lyricism are great as well, especially on “Shadowboxin’.” Both are 10/10s.

Slick Rick - Children's Story
100

I don't get why this is at a 95 which is still high but feels low for this song the rapping is fantastic the beat is one of the best of all.time and Slick Rick just has a great knack for storytelling

El-P - Stepfather Factory

This song would be in my top 10 hip-hop songs of all time MINIMUM

The concept of this is simply incredible and the production is fucking orgasmic

Pink Floyd - Animals
100

This grew on me a lot—LIKE A LOT—probably a top 10 album of all time for me, and my new favorite Pink Floyd album (sorry A Saucerful Of Secrets)

How the fuck does Pitchfork have the most sane review?

I don’t feel like writing a review, not because it’s bad or anything, but because I’m lazy + it’s been done a billion times. In short, it’s genius in its politics, the concept is great, the lyricism is fantastic, the production is mind-blowing, and tracks ... read more

Rate Your Music has been coming in real handy for finding 10/10s.

This is one of the most underground releases I’ve ever stumbled across, and I don’t even know how to describe the record. It sounds like a weird, twisted version of Godspeed You Black Emperor mixed with Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon. I urge you to check it out — it’s an insane and incredibly versatile album. There are also elements of dark ambient, noise, and hard rock thrown in, and you truly ... read more

"I love how the comment right under this is praising Olivia. Also you have to understand Olivia isn't really taking herself too seriously. I think she's relatively self-aware that she's just making music for a melancholic teenage audience you don't have to like it because of that but try to be more nuanced."

"@disidoroo Sorry for responding like a month later 😶, but I don’t really see how that’s the case. Once again, “Heartbreaker” is on this thing, and that riff can rival pretty much every song in their discography in that department — “When the Levee Breaks,” “The Rover,” etc. “What Is and What Should Never Be,” “The Lemon Song,” and “Whole Lotta Love” are pretty rockin’ as well. Even “Moby Dick,” the instrumental track, opens with a sick riff. I don’t really get this take. Sure, it’s not as lyrically sharp, but that’s a completely different argument. To be honest, I’d argue Led Zeppelin IV is way more tame by comparison"
