witnessing the creative process of an album allows you to appreciate it even more. a few months ago, i sent kate a recording of me playing guitar that would later be used in “fade away”. listening to the song after hearing the original guitar demo made me realize just how talented kate is. she transformed my guitar playing into something completely different, something much more beautiful. while fade away is the only song i can appreciate on this level, kate’s talent is seen ... read more
this album is absolutely flawed but for some reason, i just ignore them and focus on how fun this album is. this is nothing crazy or innovative but god j just enjoy this so much on a personal level. it makes me nostalgic for the music i listened in middle school without making me feel embarrassed to listen to it. i love this so much
first off, sorry that this is my first review in a while. recently i’ve been really struggling to find the time and motivation to write reviews due to school. i have a lot of things to say about music, i just don’t have the time to type these thoughts out.
with that out of the way, let’s talk about what is arguably the biggest release of the entire year. red is the second album in the “taylor’s version” series of re-recording albums. like most of the albums ... read more
i saw 100 gecs last night and it was the craziest experience of my entire life. from the moment they brought out a giant block that was painted like a speaker and looked concave due to an optical illusion, i knew i was in for the time of my life. they played 8 new songs and they were all incredible. the upcoming single, me me me was one of my favorites. it’s an extremely fun and upbeat song that i haven’t been able to get out of my head. i won’t spoil too much about this ... read more
the rock really fell off after the moana soundtrack
lil nas x’s success is an absolute anomaly. we all expected him to be a one hit wonder because what else would be the fate of a joke country rap song featuring billy ray cyrus? but then panini dropped and scored him his second hit. ok maybe he’ll have two hits but there’s no way he’ll be popular for much longer right? wrong. if anything, he’s just become more relevant since he dropped panini. even when you don’t consider how much of a one hit wonder old town ... read more
yeah this is fucking incredible. i sadly don’t have much to say that hasn’t already been said in ways fair better than i could put it but wowwwww. yeah this is probably my favorite rap album of all time as well as my second favorite album of 2021. every song on here is great. if you haven’t heard this yet you’re missing out
on september 17 of 2021, zach byars (also known as zachthesnack), one of the most influential aoty users, passed away at the age of 21. i think it goes without saying that zach is an incredible person and he will be missed very dearly. this was one of his (and mine) favorite albums of all time and it only feels right to relisten to this album in his memory and leave this message here. rest in peace, zach. i never really got to talk to you but you were an amazing reviewer and photographer as ... read more
grayscale are a band i’ve been following for quite a bit now. their second album, adornment is an all time favorite of mine and i’m going to see them tomorrow as part of the sad summer tour! but, as much as i love adornment, i really didn’t enjoy 2019’s nella vita apart from the singles as well as the closer, tommy’s song. i did not know how to feel going into umbra, since i loved the first single but wasn’t too keen on the second. while listening to the ... read more
this was very nice. it’s a pretty chill and calming album in my opinion. it kinda sounds a more psychedelic modest mouse??? idk how to describe its just very pleasant to listen to. i first heard about this band earlier this year when their drummer was credited on the taylor swift song “you all over me”. the drumming is definitely a highlight of this album. eric really knows how to drum in a way. that is impresssive while still firting the song and not showing off too much. i ... read more
edit: this is awesome
yeah i’m not really feeling this one. i mean, to start off with a positive, the neptunes did a really good job with production on this but i feel like the way this album combined different genres made it feel makes it feel messy rather than interesting and unique. there’s not really any songs i love on here. there’s a few that i like, but it was mostly just mediocre or decent. also the lyrics made me a bit uncomfortable at times. as many complaints as ... read more
jack white’s music has always been about simplicity, but on boarding house reach, this is not the case. BHR is experimental, unpredictable, and fun as hell. i had heard the singles “connected by love” and “over and over” before listening to this and expected the album as a whole to be similar to those songs. this was a mistake. i think having those expectations made it hard for me to enjoy the album. throughout most of my first listen i was confused more than than ... read more
goddamn i had so much fun with this album. the guitar tune sounds good and unique. both of the vocalists have really nice voices and i like how they have very different voices from each other. this album is in japanese, so i don’t really understand the lyrics, but that doesn’t matter because the vibes on this album more than make up for that. even if this isn’t anything groundbreaking, i had a really good time listening to this. i do think it was a weird choice to have 5 out ... read more
it’s no secret that i love emo. and this might just be one of the most unique emo albums i’ve heard. it has elements of indie, post hardcore, math rock, pop punk, and even some noise rock. the blend of genres makes this a really interesting and entertaining listen. the guitars here sound incredible and i like how the vocals have a mix of spoken word and extremely high energy singing. the lyrics are very antisocial and anxious and i’m absolutely here for it.
