Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
99

MBDTF is the result of almost a year of isolation to escape the public after Kanye's big oopsie at the 2009 VMA's. This is the most transparent he's ever sounded. At this point in his career Ye was a hollywood villain due to his loud and braggadocios nature. I think that he plays with this aspect because his ego reaches record breaking highs on tracks like POWER, but not much later we see an emotionally shattered version of himself on Runaway (one of the best songs ever recorded imo).

Kendrick Lamar - good kid, m.A.A.d city
100

Some of the greatest storytelling in hip hop. it might be the most cinematic album i've ever listened to - it really plays like a movie. Good kid, m.A.A.d city is Kendrick's coming of age story in the city of Compton. one of the reasons this album succeeds is because so many people can relate to it, and if you can't then you at least get a glimpse of what it's like to grow up in Compton.
I actually think that TPAB is the superior album in a lot of ways, but the reason I have this album higher ... read more

Fiona Apple - The Idler Wheel Is Wiser than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More than Ropes Will Ever Do
97

Fiona apple is one of the most striking and raw singer-songwriter that i've ever listened to. the simple (yet effective) production's focus on piano+percussion places you right in front of apple forcing you to hear ever word she has to say. very few artists speak with as much passion as she does. listen to this album - feel the energy in her voice and lyrics and I promise it will speak VOLUMES.

fav tracks: Valentine, left alone, periphery

alt-J - An Awesome Wave
88

Alt-J take on folk in a a very modern way. they've poured tons of character and creativity into each song in 'an awesome wave. they may not be to everyone's liking but i've found that the more i listen to this album the more i like it, plus it's one of the coolest album covers ever. Vocally, lyrically, and musically a great album

BROCKHAMPTON - SATURATION III
94

"best boyband since one direction"
watching the come up of brockhampton was very exciting. Their 'saturation' trilogy quite literally saturated the rap game. On saturation the group sounds their most creative and versatile. they are one of the most enjoyable hip hop groups ever.

fav tracks: bleach, rental, team
least fav: johnny

Beach House - Teen Dream
87

Beach house has such an easily recognizable warm sound from the duo's psychedelic soundscapes and dreamy vocals. Teen dream is simple but so effective. 10 mile stereo is their best song.
fav tracks: silver soul, walk in the park, 10 mile stereo.
least fav: real love

Pop Smoke - Meet The Woo 2
53

pop smoke has a unique voice, and I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a mega-hit in the near future, but this album falls very flat and I found myself bored more than half the time. he has potential, but he's gonna need to spice things up somehow.

best tracks: element, she got a thing, war

EDIT: Rip.. dude showed so much potential

Denzel Curry & Kenny Beats - UNLOCKED
82

kenny beats showcases some of his best production to date on this project with some really cool madvillain type samples and beats. curry is HEAT as usual and has a lot of memorable lyrics throughout. the two of them combined ensure that there's not a single dull moment.

best tracks: DIET , 'cosmic'

On Have a Nice Life - Deathconsciousness
"@ClayDJs03 Like I said, I did go through that booklet; and although I liked it (probably a little more than the album itself), I don’t think it helped with my overall feelings about the lyrics in Deathconciousness. I might return to it, but I’ve got a ton of other shoegaze to explore before I do. Loveless was one of my favorite listens in a while ;)"

"“If anyone deserves a 100, The Avalanches does.” Fucccc i think you’re right lol. This is some really good writing. What would’ve been another normal album listen became an experience with meaning thanks to your story - a reminder that there’s so much in this world to explore and learn about that will bring us happiness. Thank you for taking the time to write this!"

"very valid point though. dont get me wrong this is clever and funny as fuck but im really hoping he'll avoid that trap of being a meme rapper. Songs are still pretty heat even if it is a joke"
