The first couple of songs really impressed me specifically in the way Rod Wave changes his pace and aggression in a split second. He didn’t really offer a whole lot aside from that though, and the album was pretty downhill for me after around the midway point. His vocal inflections flop HARD a few times and left me wondering how he or his team didn’t catch them before putting out this project. Nevertheless this is his debut LP, so we shouldn’t be too quick to judge him as an ... read more
Man I haven’t listened to logic in hella long. It’s a trip going through his discog and rating his projects. I like to think that his projects PRIOR to this aged ok. I just remember this falling off super quickly for me. Like when’s the last time you listened to “Ye dis dat FLEXICUTION”. Then you have The Jam, WRIST, SUPER MARIO WORLD. At this point in his career things were starting to get corny for me. Many people already felt this way about him. But even ... read more
I can’t even lie, Under Pressure is one of the main reasons I appreciate music the way that I do today. I remember when I was 15 and my brother showed me “Alright” ft big sean. Up until that point, I had literally never heard anyone rap/flow like that. It opened a whole new world to me. I love every song on this album
Some pretty great musical compositions here. Definitely going to have to listen again - it’s projects like these that I really start to appreciate more over time because I start to notice all the things that I missed during my first playthroughs of the album.
I like that Lil Durk just feels super authentic. You can tell when he raps that he’s confident as hell - like he knows he’s making good music. That confidence really stands out about him. He’s also able to slow down in a song and get in his feelings. When he raps about struggles and relationships it’s still pretty good.
Clams Casino is dope as fuck and no doubt one of my fav producers. He has established such a unique sound. The sound I’m talking about is executed to perfection on honestly almost every one of these tracks.
but the intro.. I’m God is insane. Aside from being sonically incredible. The nostalgia that I get from listening to it and the things I associate it with - it’s a masterpiece.
Any rapper that decides to spit on a Clams beat is up for a challenge because of his unorthodox ... read more
After my girlfriend discovered the song Always Forever (presumably off Tiktok) and suggested it to me, I decided to give Cults a go. It’s pretty damn good ngl. It brought some unexpected nostalgia with the song Go Outside, which I immediately recognized off of the Fifa 13 Soundtrack. It’s a pop album with some rock elements and a faint electronic feel derived from some synthy keys and the occasional voice sampling. This is something I hope they expand on in their next two released ... read more
Having just listened to Lo-Fi for the first time with The Microphones’ albums, as well as my recent desire to listen to more avant-garde rock, I decided I would listen to The Velvet Underground. I now understand many people to consider this to be the beginning of noise rock/lo-fi/punk or whatever you want to call it. So we can basically thank these guys for an INCOMPREHENSIBLE amount of music that we hear today lol. Although it wasn’t my favorite of its type sonically, it was still ... read more
Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia manages to stay fresh and interesting through almost every track, my favorites being the singles that were released (Don’t Start Now and Physical), however I also really liked Pretty Please. I wasn’t crazy about the last few songs starting at Love Again. They were decent but didn’t feel at par with the rest of the album. Boys Will Be Boys is actually a good closer though and I found it pretty funny too.
Tried multiple times with this album but it just doesn't click. What's funny is I fucking LOVE Get Got. Easily a 10/10 track for me, but in almost every other track Stefan's vocals throw me off, to the point where it's almost unbearable. Ironically, I find the production completely bearable and dope as shit. I've Seen Footage + Hacker also kind of save this album for me.
I will remember We Are Sent Here By History as my first jazz experience. I’m around jazz a good amount. My dad listens to it all the time and it’s deeply rooted on that side of my family. Jazz has always been this genre that I didn’t know a whole lot about, but a genre that I could totally see myself getting into in my later years. I never would’ve thought my journey would begin at the age of 20.
What amazes me the most about jazz is the creation process. The aspect of ... read more
Wow this album was a nice surprise. The lead singer is really good, and her vocals are filled with emotion, whether it’s anger, sadness, boredom, freedom, and everything in between. That, along with her very effective use of repetition, makes it impossible for you to not feel something with her. Ngl the closer, Homecoming Song, left me teary-eyed. A beautiful rollercoaster with an epic and chaotic ending
Fav tracks: Sweet, Long, Pop Song, Give/Take.
This is a very solid album. It contains some of the best lyricism I've heard this year so far. I think Jay-Z is featured on every song, but it works because THEY work. The Blinding is absolutely DISGUSTING from start to finish. Shiny Suit Theory is another 10/10 track with incredible word play from both of the Jays.
Though unlike the vast majority of you, I had never heard of Jay Electronica before today - and if I'm being honest, this release would've probably been a lot more underwhelming if ... read more
I’d like to start by saying i’ve never really been a huge Lil Uzi fan in the past. The “Uzi sound” never really appealed to me, and the sub par lyrics didn’t help. This album however feels like a definite improvement - in the energy that he brings AND his word choice. It’s not a huge improvement lyrically but it’s noticeable and serves more as a component that makes everything else in the album click. I also really appreciate Uzi trying new sounds. ... read more
